He liked to joke about the news reels they saw, “every week it was a bunch of great victories that we were winning, as if they thought we wouldn’t notice that each battle was always closer and closer to home than last weeks victories!”
I have seen several Wochenschaus and that doesn't correspond with what you were told. They obviously painted their defeats in a favourable colour but they did report on them openly.

During the last days general Wenck marched from one Front to the other within one day. He wrote in his diary that this says a lot about the war. He evacuated many people from Berlin and surrendered to the US army

In one of the shots (Edited of course by the Germans) is of him coming from left to right and giving an indignant “V” salute as he marches past the PK cameraman...look it up... Nijmegen was lost to the allied forces and became a front city for many months. Not a word about Nijmegen, Eindhoven, Grave and other places lost to allied forces. Nevertheless Market Garden was a failure.

No it was not. That thing called „Neger“ in german is made of 2 torpedos. One torpedo is for the driver, it has a engine and enough oxygen for a couple of hours. The second torpedo can be shot by the driver. It‘s the only weapon he has. Once shot, the driver has to return to his base to reload
They do not mention that the germans lost the cities of eindhoven, grave and nijmegen. Germans were pushed back from the shores in Normandy to Nijmegen and the german border in little over 4 months. And for what? It changed nothing and it never will but we as humans never learn. In time just through attrition you would have lost , the US also had the Atomic bomb and had you not surrendered, well, you can imagine!

Russia lost over 20 million in that war, Germany 5 to 6 million or more, France over 1 million the same with England, the US 600,000, the Japanese 7 to 8 million, the Chinese more than 20 million and so on. And for what? It changed nothing and it never will but we as humans never learn. We perhaps should have sided with Germany against the Soviet Union considering what assholes they turned out to be but we could not get our arms around the Nazi Philosophy of extermination of people they consider subhuman. But thanks to German science we went to the moon 24 years later.
