ANC proposal seeks farmers to donate some of their unused land to speed up Land Redistribution in SA

- The ANC is seeking established Farmers to donate some of their land to speed up Land Reform and Redistribution in South Africa.
In a leaked Economic Transformation Sub-Committee Policy Proposal Document of the ANC, a Land Reform and Agricultural Agency being formed by the Department of Land Affairs would run this program. The ANC's proposal comes at a time when the governing party is preparing for its Policy Conference in June after failing to change Section 25 of the Constitution to be explicit on Land Expropriation Without Compensation.

Farmers would donate land if laws would be written into agreements that donated land goes to black people qualified to farm only. No squatters, no invasions, no criminal activity. Just black farmers qualified to produce and create jobs based on agriculture. This is a very reasonable request . Farmers deserve peace of mind that their community and farms will be safe from exploitation.

@@bobbymobay true, the farmer must feel secure. They been under threat for years and have no idea who to trust. Giving land is a no return policy because if 500 clueless dagga growing devil worshipping buffoons arrive and habitate your donated land, it would soon result in your farm and neighbour's farms being criminalized and stripped of all assets until they are forced to flee and millions is again lost in jobs and taxes. You wouldn't donate a car to a 10 year old boy to drive through JHB would you? You would as an reasonably intelligent person know that a death or more would result. The same long term responsibility goes with donating a farm to government to hand out to any community they choose. Government have proven to be dishonest, corrupt and unintelligent in many facets of SA so how does a farmer trust them to do this well when it could cause deteriation of an entire food producing region.
You're missing it. Only a fraction of farmland is used for farming, the rest is just fenced in vacant land. Some even put game and Kudu on it for hunting.
2 000 blacks have to live together on 10 hectares of land, but just next door a white family of 6 has over 2000 hectores of land while only occupying 2 hecteres of it.

It's very important for wild life conservation, it crates a huge number of jobs country wide, it brings in huge overseas investment, is excellent for tourism. The benefits are endless . Botswana create huge growth with viewing, hunting , lodges, etc. Zim used to in Rhodesian days, huge tourism etc etc but they poached and ate all the wildlife, destroyed accommodation and the cops are completely corrupt so Zim just another African mess. Anyway my freind, I'd suggest the squatters stop breeding in huge numbers and educate, educate, educate or a billion hectares Will be consumed by these simple people.

Hang on a minute. People are moving out of rural areas and living in squatter camps in or around cities because that's where the hospitals, schools, shops etc are. The government didn't even give the squatters who lived on that land for years. Why does the ANC want to dump people in rural areas where's theres no plumbing, electricity and services etc? What are they going to do there? Not everyone can be or wants to be a farmer. It's very dangerous to our food security if agricultural land starts getting subdivided. How does the ANC decide who gets what land? How do you know they won't give the useless land to unconnected people and give the best land to their family and friends?
Why Cant the ANC use the +50% of government owned land to use as land reform?
Since 1652, the main objective of colonialism and apartheid was to expropriate land without compensation and mass economic marginalisation of the natives. It is not realistic to suddenly expect the land will be returned on a silver platter.
And then who will farm and what will you eat

Even if the settler will leave the property and fly to England today, do you think 6months down the line there will be cattle in the farms or anyone to give the bees water and needed light. ANC will never pass any land redistribution law. They're not interested to land issue at all. I think in future people will revolt and take the land by force. In fact it's already happening in some areas.

A joke proposal this. You wont get a single acre this way. Why not start with redistributing any surplus and non strategic land owned by state as 99 yr leases. Do we have a cohort of capable black.and brown farmers ready to take up the challenge of farming and contribute to the agrarian sector? If not black and brown candidates need to be trained big time on commercial farming to create a serious cohort of trained agronomists, farmers some of whom may need to be apprenticed on established farms first. There should be an "apartheid tax" on farmers which involves expropriation of some of their land to resettle black and brown folks that are land poor and interested in farming. White farmers must realise that amicable resolution of this land issue is in THEIR interests otherwise people will resort to Zim style land invasions and as we saw in the Durban riots once people get to looting and destroying u can lose everything. On this basis the white farmers need to come up with a serious and structured offer of free land to be given to the state (or provincial govt) to lease out to land beneficiaries, with option to gain full title. Failing this we are simply kicking the can down the road for a Zim style chaotic scenario

Chaotic Zimbabwean style invasions are already with SA.There were ample institutions long geared to train up brown farmers. This is not about farming. It's about land ownership, farmers or not, chaos or not.
White farmers 'are' farming, so are black. Most farms by now have been validated. All successful farms make huge contributions to the food security enjoys and the spin off urban employment eg. transport of foods, food processing companies, food exports, food retailers etc etc. The industries and business the farms give rise to in SA is almost immeasurable.
But ok. The people say, its still not enough. They want more and more.
Once agriculture finally collapses in SA, there will be rife food shortages, unemployment worse than Zimbabwe and one party rule
By the time there is no more to share but only half have benefited, the country will have lost all its farmers, agricultural based businesses will have collapsed and SA will turn into a Biafra

Not all land in South Africa was "stolen" by white people. In fact most was not. There was trade of land and animals between people. There was occupation of vacant land and black people also stole land from black people in other cases too. For example the Zulus who killed many other tribes. Malema must PROVE what land was stolen when and by who and from who on an individual basis. You cannot just generalise and call an entire race racist or criminals.. If he wants to do that then the Zulus and Xhosa are even more guilty than the whites... The Khoi San had land stolen from them by the Zulus and Xhosa and in rare cases white people.

This guy is brilliant! he reminds me of Moeletsi Mbeki. They have both lost confidence in the ANC. The people have now lost confidence in the ANC. How to redistribute the land? it is simple. USE THE TRIBAL SYSTEM. If the land to be redistributed is in KwaZulu, only give it to people of Zulu origin. If it is in northern Limpopo, give it to the Venda. Our ancient Tribal system was an efficient way to own land, communally. The answer to this problem is in our own past, not foreign ideas. The ANC must be wise now. They cannot sit on the fence anymore. They must choose. Either they serve colonial masters, or the African people. They cannot serve both.
