A sore foot never kept a guy back from doing his duty. Only twenty open is pretty good stats for that bull. Even AI misses once in a while. Good video. Pax
Sore foot especially with infection will mean a lower sperm count. Older bulls are usually efficient at mounting at the right time. Younger bulls run around chasing hence da sore foot
Fast and furious! You are keeping these great videos coming fast and we very much like seeing your daily routines, glad you include your sister and dad where possible.
Can you comment at some point on your philosophy around feed bunk management? Some people are super picky about keeping a clean face, use a defaced, etc, and others don’t. Just curious why you choose not to worry about that. Less risk of spoilage with barley silage vs corn silage?
8-3-23 Illinois Hey Jan I have been watching your videos at least a year now. I am very impressed with your family operation, management style and the respect you have for your LADIES. From what I seen your cattle all appear to be very healthy, shows a high level of dedication and commitment. 👍👍👍👍
I'm new to the channel, so I wanna talk numbers. How many cows do you average milking? Curious, what is the rolling herd average, and how much milk do you ship a day? How many cows/heifers calve each day?
The bulls seem to have done a good job, Seems they got the job done before they got problems. Not many cows still to AI. I presume AI is more expensive because you already have the bull. How much is each straw? Do you keep a tally? Who is most successful at the AI procedure? I presume that a % of cows will never become pregnant and end up with the steers. You seem to have a lot of heifers at the moment are you increasing your herd numbers? You seem to silage your rye, can some of it be left to produce grain to replace some of your barley purchases?
I wish everyone was as competent in their work as to be able to do it on film. "I do things the right way and I don't mind who sees it." I mean I wouldn't want to be filmed if I was doing bad work, and or some shady stuff
Thanks Jan for the new episode. An arduous job that because of your youth you can face so many hours and so many almost simultaneous tasks Youth divine treasure. 👍
With open breeding (ie with a bull) how do you time the birth of new calfs and when the cows will start milking? If you AI all the 20 cows on the same day wouldn't you have that many births in a short timeframe? I thought you were AIing the cows to space out birthing to somewhat of a consistent manmer.
That top soil bed pack that yall keep roto tilling is gonna have amazing manure value i bet! Make sure to take it that sorry looking pea field Jan, hopefully next year is better haha. Love the daily uploads btw
Fertilizer isn't the problem in that field -- the crop seemed to germinate well and lots of plants sprouted there. But then the drought hit them, and that prevented them from growing higher and producing full peapods. So they needed water, not fertilizer.
So - in the balance, is the life of Sorefoot the Bull. What content! What tension! Can you show him being loaded for the trip to hamburger factory please? So good. ;)
Hi brother just excited to see you working very professional way .i am also a small dairy farmer ! Definitely want to get chance to visit you and work with you valenterily get some knowledge and working efficiently in dairy ! So just want know that haw can i get in touch with you to talk about that . Good luck bro ! Hope you will reply soon!
Blood test now that's something I can relate to here in Africa ca just sent my samples yesterday can't wait to here from them how many are incalf I hope the blood is still viable It had to travel for over 48h to reach the lab.
160 preg checks I have a feeling the vet’s arm was tired after all that. You took a big risk to get the shot on the rotor tiller could have easily lost a camera there bud.
A cow has to have calved to give milk. After calving, she will be milked for the next 305 days. Then, dried off and given a 2 month break, before calving again and repeating the lactation cycle. (She will be AI'd about 3 months after calving) The cows stay clean, because they keep the bedding clean and/or dry.
Will you inseminate all 20 at once or will you space them out so you won't have a big surge of freshening at the same time? First time I've seen that bio area sign. I was wondering if that was being practiced.
Only if he is permanently incapacitated. But bulls are so expensive that you only do that if you absolutely have to. If it's just a minor injury or illness affecting him, they just treat him and let him heal. Like they are doing with this bull.
I think I understand why your new bull has a sore foot. Sounds like he spends most of his time on only two of them.😂
Haha that’s why we hired him 😂
Great video! Seems to be great heifer news! Hope the bull recovers quickly and the water problem wasn't difficult to fix. Enjoyed the video! Thanks.
Yea it just started working again on its own so I’m not sure what was up
Your feed program is impressive reflects in the quality of your herd.
I'd give that bull an extra treat tonight. He did a good job!

The bull was up to something - he was busy 😆
Good video.
That bull is a gamer. Playing hurt but he takes one (or gives one?) for the team and still gets the job done pretty damn well. What a pro.
Great video.
A good working bull is a godsend
stampede looks like a western movie!
Great Video, it's been a while since i visited your channel, thanks for sharing
Another awesome video, loving all the extra content!!
Thanks!
Always nice to get a good scan ! We had to get rid off a bull a few weeks ago too, turned wicked.
We once had a bull that got mean anytime there was no work for him. If he was working he was nice though.
Milked this morning, Jan... love all of your videos!!! Please keep doing what you're doing! Jeff, dairy farmer from Pennsylvania.

I believe AI is primary and the bulls perform “clean up”
Good job bulls! Get ‘er done even when injured. 😁👍🏻🇨🇦🐄
Thanks so much. This was great. I hope your bulls get well and get it along.... soon.

Really enjoying all the videos you've been putting out lately. Keep them coming. Also what breeds are your cow's? Holstein or something else?
Good that so few were not pregnant. Always great to have one of your videos Jan. Thanks.
good job!
That's a lot of pregnant cows hope u got room for all those baby cows great video as always
I hope is not the well getting low from all the dry weather.

They will be bred when they come in season. You can't breed them if not in season.
what method do you use for preg check? Thanks
I love the day in the life, thank you
87 % conception rate... Bloody good I would say.
The boys “came” through even while injured 👍🏻😁
Cheers.

You and your video are very good❤❤❤❤❤
Was waiting for the water fix 💦 Glad the bull got most of his job done 👍
Couldn’t find the issue and then it just started working like normal again 😂
that happend in the dairy where i work most of the heifers are open
Do you add any liquid to your TMR??
They add whey permiate and water.
Great video
You definitely need to have your sister in your videos more often, good video thank you!
Haha I’ll let here know
Jan do you guys ai cows or let bulls in with them and why do you ai
@@user-bp8fu9ns7t They AI their milk herd. It's too dangerous to let a bull in the barn, and they can get better genes from AI.
@@MellowYe77ow thanks alot for the info
@@user-bp8fu9ns7t You're welcome.
Nice save Miriam 👌
Great pregnancy count. I guess that bull hurt his 5th foot. 🤔
Another very interesting video Thank you 😊😊
Did the bull hurt his front or back hoof? Just curious :)...
What was the problem with the water ?
He doesn't know. It started working again by its self.
Love your videos really nice looking cows
Thanks for the great content showing daily life on your dairy farm.

how does the vet preg check the cows?
is the new bull is red Holstein?
🖖💜💜💜💜🖖

So what actually happened to the water jan?
I am interested in these jobs

How did you fix the drinker with the low pressure
It fixed its self.
Does a cow have to be pregnant to give milk????
Also.... How do your cows stay so clean????ty. ❤🙏

The cows stay clean, because they keep the bedding clean and/or dry.
The cows also have the Delaval automatic rotating cow brush located in their barn
Goed bezig jij, dad, en je zussen, mooi om te zien jan, familie bedrijf.
How many cows and young stock do you have on the farm in total?
Right now, they have around 1,000 head in total.
Is your vets name josh??
Let me guess: The person who checks the pressure in the hose is known as the hoser.
Hi there kitty I’m sorry to bother you
What is meat stick made from?

First time I've seen that bio area sign. I was wondering if that was being practiced.
They will be bred when they come in season. Can't breed when not in season. So the heifers will determine the timing.
Hi
I want in farm work with you
I assume a breeding bull that no longer works becomes steak.
Delicious western Canadian Holstein steak. YUMMMMY😋😋🤣🤣🤣🤣
🍔 🥩 😋👍🏻

Have you ever hit a cow when unloading feed wagon
Dear ,What's the average milk production of the first timer in your herd? And tell about the semen you use..
Hello, I'm from Germany, can I come and work for you for a few months?

wil je melk dan moet koe calven zo grode stier zijn werk deed :do you qwant milk get cow pregnent and calves and good bull did his job
Do you have a computer program for the cows??
Meaning, number , treatment, illnesses , age, calves, etc??
In video while back, explained about how with computer keep track of every cow, right down to how much milk they produce.
pregnancy checking 160 heifers' would give a guy dish pan hands haha
