- This Chinese-inspired Japanese Soup is increcibly easy to make. Japanese-style Chinese restaurants in Japan used to serve this style of soup, but they are getting more rare these days. This soup pairs with any type of meal, but it's especially great with fried rice or fried noodles.
INGREDIENTS: (3 servings)
500 ml water
15cc soy sauce
3cc vinegar
8 gram oyster sauce
1 tsp shantan instant soup
lard to taste
white pepper to taste
chopped negi or green onions
DIRECTIONS:
Chop negi or green onions for later. Add in all ingredients to a saucepan and bring to a boil. Add in lard and cook until lard has melted. Transfer soup to bowls and serve with chopped negi.

Your Mom reminds me of my Mother-in-law…so lovely. She wanted to teach me all she knew in the kitchen because we both shared a love for cooking. I miss her so much and these episodes with your Mother always make me feel so good about the time we spent together. Sorry to hear about the food poisoning but glad to see you’re better.
It is a beautiful experience for you to learn your momma’s recipes. Thanks for sharing.
I love how clear your mother's pronunciation is. It's easier for my forreign ears to follow than a lot of other native Japanese speakers seem to be.
Oh nooooo! Brother! I’m so sorry about your bout with food poisoning! There’s nothing worse than getting physically ill. I’m so thankful that you were able to make it home!
Your okasan looks amazing! Time has certainly stood still for her. She’s beautiful and has not aged at all! I absolutely love her recipes! I, too, hope that she will do some more cooking videos for us! Take care everyone!
Your cooking videos with your mom are my favorite. Sorry about you getting sick on your trip I have had that experience before and I feel your pain
So happy to see your Mom looking so well! ❤️
It's exciting to see your mom cooking these delicious recipes. Such a sweet lady. It feels like home.
your mom is a good teacher. I'm going to try her soup. weve been having a lot of rain, good weather for soup.
😊My favorite soup . We are very blessed to have her share and teach us her amazing recipes ❤️. Most of all she taught me to slow down in the kitchen when preparing and cooking, lm always in a rush with a big family thankyou 😀.
Thank you for sharing your mom recipe with us all take care God bless you y'all 😘😘❤️🥰🤩😍🙏🌈💯🌹
So grateful to learn from your dear Mom, tell her thank you plus yourself for sharing her with us
Always love your Mom’s videos! I can’t wait to try this soup! It sounds very comforting when you want a little some thing.
Bummer about the food poisoning on your trip!
Thank you to your Mom! Take care!
Love the mom cookings! Sorry to hear your bad stomach poisoning or maybe the wind. Anyhow Melbourne is great, also try Adelaide!
I so missed seeing her cook. Oishi sou! PS: the same thing happened to hubby in Dec. On the way back from visiting with my parents, he became so ill...I had to take over driving and it took him a week to recover. Never ever has happened to him. Glad you're all better brother. ❤
So sorry you got sick, Melbournes Chinatown is amazing
She's adorable. She strikes me as a tough cookie as well. 💖 Shinichi could you please do an updated 2 part 'what to buy in Japanese supermarkets' video? I LOVED your last one and bought everything you suggested on one of my last trips to Tokyo so I'd LOOOOVE a new recommendations list. Until then, I will look for the Chinese-Japanese soup stock powder you showed here. Thank you so much, I love all your channels.
Oh boy! Sorry to hear how ill you were. That's pretty stressful especially while traveling. Glad you are ok now. Thanks to your mom for the delicious recipes. Loved watching all those videos and looking forward to trying the recipes (especially the shumai!)
I’m so sorry to hear about your food poisoning. I’m not against Taco Bell, but I don’t eat it very often and some of my friends jokingly call it taco hell. Your mom’s soup looks delicious. I’m going to see if I can find the soup starter packet on Amazon.
so nice to watch you cooking together 💗
Shinichi-san, I am so sorry you fell ill. My youngest got food poisoning a couple of weeks ago and your experience sounds like what he went through. I am glad you are better and healing. Your mother looks fantastic and so do you. Thank you so much for sharing her recipes with your fans. I feel honored and blessed to be able to make things from your channel, knowing the source is comforting. Wishing you and Satoshi blessings.
I love the recipes. I will try the soup! 😊
Gonna look for that instant Shantan soup base when I’m in Japan next!
Hey Shinichi! I made your mom's kimchi a few days ago (just a small batch to try), and it was amazing! My friends tried some and loved it as well; they asked me to make some for them, and I just got another huge head of napa to make a giant batch. Tell your mom she's amazing for coming up with the recipe, and thanks a bunch for sharing it with us! I love watching your mom and you cook and spend time together, and I wish ya'll the best!
So sorry to hear about your food positioning as well - especially at the end of the trip, that blows. But glad you were able to make it back. Thank you for all of the content by the way - much love to you and your mom!
I hope and pray you never have to experience that again. I am glad to know you are doing much better.
Your mom is a very lovely and elegant lady. I can see you are very close to her.
Thank you and your family for all the exciting food blogging and adventures around the world! What an incredible life you live in. You literally live life to the fullest ❤❤❤❤❤
Mom's cooking is always the best! And I'm so sorry to hear you got food poisoning--getting it while traveling is the worst.
Come to Brisbane. QLD is where all the major theme parks are: Movie World, Dreamworld, Sea World etc. We have the best beaches and walking tracks. The city has a man-made lagoon in the middle of it! In terms of content and the sheer number of things to do, QLD (Brisbane/Gold Coast) is better bang for your buck.
I love your mom's cooking!! I have never seen this soup recipe... looks good! Please tell your mother "Arigato!"🤗 She is so lovely! I am so sorry about your food poisoning.☹
oh u poor thing food poisoning is the worst especially when youre traveling. thats an interesting soup really easy when your mom cooks it must bring back memories for you. please thank her for her time n showing us her recipes i love watching her
Taco bell will tear you up. one way or another
Sorry to hear about your unfortunate food poisoning experience Shinichi. That's my worse nightmare when travelling. That's why I always pack medicines such as anti nausea pills, gaviscon and panadol in case of such emergencies. 😅
If you ever come back to Australia, consider Perth? We are quite laid back and less hectic but with the best beaches! 😉
I have never gotten food poisoning while traveling but I did get it twice from the city I live in and I know exactly where I had gotten it from too. Worse experience of my life. I may try your mom’s recipes as they are quick and look delicious.
You shoulda contacted the front desk and asked for a Dr, and asked for them to help you. Then Lordy take a taxi to the airport you sounded sick enough. Glad you got better.
Sorry to hear you got food poisoning, It can be so awful! I had It in the South of the US once while traveling and it is exhausting. Glad to hear you got home safely.
Love the soup recipe! It sounds just wonderful. Your mother is a joy to watch cooking. She is so sure and so careful with all her actions, and clearly the results are wonderful. And, I am so very sorry you got food poisoning. It is so dreadful. My sympathy for this horrid experience.
The shu mai was delicious. Next, I will try this soup. Thanks Shinichi's mom. Thanks for the cooking class Shinichi. Cheers to Satoshi.
chamomile tea is the best healer plant. Glad you're feeling better Shinichi.
One of my friends got food poisoning from a kebab wrap and he ended up getting cardiac arrest and he had to be flown with helicopter to hospital. His heart failed and he had to get a pace maker that needs to be replaced every 10 years. Its scary how bad it can get. Hope you're feeling recovered!
I'm so so sorry you had that awful experience in Sydney Shinichi! It sounds like the hotel staff weren't too helpful.
You didn't have food poisoning my friend. Most likely you had a bad stomach virus. Food poisoning takes about 72 hours to surface after eating bad food. But I'm so sorry for your terrible experience just the same. I'm very glad that you made it home.
yeah more moms cooking!
Bummer about your experience maybe next time give Sydney a miss and come to Melbourne and experience the lane way culture , theatres , arts , the museum , the Queen Victoria market , the zoo either the Melbourne one or the Werribee open range one , so much too see and do in Melbourne.
Oh man I feel for you. I've never gotten food poisoning but I have caught norovirus which is similar, and it was the worst illness I've ever had and I've had scarlet fever. I wouldn't wish that stuff on my worst enemy. Absolutely awful, it had me wishing for the end 😂 How terrible to get something like that right before you set to depart, too!
I love seeing your mom. She looks really good. I'm going to try the shumai. I'm flying to Japan at 12:50am tonight. As soon as I find a post office. I'll send you a package. I'll be in Tokyo on the 19th-23. Tokyo station hotel for 2 days. Then four seasons the last 3 days. I hope to meet you and Satoshi. But if you can't make it I understand.
Oyster sauce is an underrated broth ingredient
Brisbane is also a good place to visit :)
Food poisoning is no joke. My nephew worked at our local Taco Bell. To work there you need a "Food Handlers Permit' but the practices and the permit were often overloooked. I'm sorry this happened to you. It's been the topic of lawsuits, Chipolte comes to mind. I hope when you were able to eat again that you had some probiotic support. You need to report it so other people don't suffer or ... die. Also when you travel you need to be proactive and pack medications that will help you with this.
So glad you are doing better that experience sounds terrible 😣
What can be replaced with the lard? I don know any place that sells lard here. :/
Get well soon shinichi!and yes hope there's more of your mum's simple recipe video please!^^
You have such bad luck in Sydney! Keep trying! Good to see you made it home.
My husband got sick on taco bell a long time ago.
I no longer have a bladder so I always now carry an anti diarrhea tablet in my wallet
What a shame - Adelaide and Perth are lovely cities - I never understand why people just want to go to Sydney - your mums soup looked great
Oh you got hit by the Taco Bell Taco Hell.
I find it ironic that you got food poisoning from Taco Bell. From all the food excursions that you and Satoshi have gone on, it was the crappy American food that did you in. Also this soup looks quite easy to make and great for when you're feeling unwell.
Wow! That's horrible Shinichi, maybe you're not meant to visit Sydney. I'm sorry you had to go through that. If you go back, definitely try Melbourne. And thanks for the soup recipe.❤😊
Come to the gold coast AU
My partner and I had similar experience with Taco Bell when they opened the first restaurant in London a few years ago. Never went back again.
Taco Bell - say no more.
U should always report food poisoning to restaurant and health authorities
Welsh onion- leeks?!
Your mom's soup🤤 - - - b-u-t your "fast food experience" was the stuff of crazy horror jokes! Like it or not, you may have an allergy to Sydney or Australia?!?
Kinda ironic that, of all places, it was a Taco Bell that gave you food poisoning. I'm glad you recovered!
Oh no....sorry you had food poisoning in Sydney! I like Taco Bell and have never had any issues, but I know it is a common joke that Taco Bell will give you food poisoning...sorry this happened to you.
So sad to hear about your food poisoning. That can indeed drain all the energy out of you. I personally am not a fan of fast food joints, I've heard stories like that before. And may I suggest you look at the reviews before you enter such a joint? The reviews of Taco Bell are just horrible, although some people will eat anything. You could have avoided this for sure. With restaurants I never do anything under a 4 star review, because lower than that it's often just garbage.
Loved your mom's cooking again. These recipes are really easy and reachable for everyone. I hope you can talk her into another session.
if you stayed home and stuck to your mom's cooking, this wouldn't have happened - I've had food poisoning and it's no joke. take care and get well soon!
not me watching while eat tacobell :D
