    I travel with my a6000, the 18-105 f4 (stays on the camera 90% of the time) and the 35mm f1.8 Sony prime. I fit the camera, both lenses and 2 spare batteries into a small Peli case (waterproof and shockproof). I then bring a camera strap and the lens hoods seperately. I like this setup because I don't have to worry about the camera once it's in it's box. Nothing can damage it once it's inside. You could roll over that box in a car and it would be fine.
    In the future I might sell the whole setup and move to a 6100 with the 16-55 f2.8 and 70-350mm. I think that would be pretty dialled.

    I visited the Southern Colorado area two years ago and Loved every moment being there. Visited the Colorado Springs Zoo and Bishops Castle. My sister and brother live there many years. Aurora a suburb of Denver was my home for 10 years before entering the Army and then settling in San Antonio for the past 36 years working for the Post Office. I love the mountain scenery and on Sunday mornings I would take the highway to Buffalo Bills grave in the foothills and look back to Denver to see the clear Blue sky and no smog. I have the same setup that you have besides the kit lenses that came with the A6100 plus the Sony 70-350mm. The 16-65mm and the 70-350mm are my travel lenses with the RX100V Point and Shoot camera and the IPhone 10s Max.

    Since December 2019, I just carry Sony a6600 and 16-55 f/2.8G. This is my favorite, the only problem of a6600 when you capture a long exposure shot it takes time to clear the buffer. Otherwise, I am happy with my setup. I love this setup as it is easy to carry.

    I love my a6100 too. Also was considering the 16-55mm after saw your review last year. But I cannot justify the high cost without the OSS. Actually, the most important is, I found current mid range cellphone picture quality is compatible to the camera in most case, and it is much handy to use to taking kid pictures. Now even harder for me to consider buying more lens..

      Marco Leung zooming in and out? Instant. Swap primes? Open the bag, grab the prime, remove lens from the camera, deal with caps, dust on the sensor. It will break the flow of,a portrait session, or make you miss street photography opportunities. On shoots with primes I carry 2 bodies.

    • @marcoleung368
      @marcoleung368 Před 3 lety

      @@stefpix well what I mean is by using prime you are limited to one focal length and you will try to frame the shot with that focal length instead of trying out different focal length. This make me learn more about that particular focal length and it can save time experimenting with different focal length on the same subject. If you know what you want to achieve or what focal length you need you use at the first place this is propably not a problem for you.

    • @stefpix
      @stefpix Před 3 lety +1

      Marco Leung I generally know what focal length I want. Also being able to do a wide shot, a detail shot one after another is priceless. I have primes, I only use them when the Sony 16-55 f2.8 is not fast enough. Anyway for everyday I use the rx100 VII. I don’t see a point in using primes if I have a standard zoom that achieves the same top quality. Dealing also with a single camera, rather than 2 cameras with 2 primes is more convenient and saves time importing and editing. I still have a use for primes occasionally.

      Yes 😂. Sony SEL1655G is a very sharp and well made lens. But it's only f/2,8 in APS-C so regarding DoF it's equal to about f/4,2 in FF. So compared to f/1,4 primes it lacks in object separation from the background. That's why I would choose Sigma primes and Sony SEL70350G for lightweight super tele use.
      I mean that in many cases you get much less of that "snapshot feel" with f/1,4 than f/2,8 (especially in APS-C format).

    Hello Author,
    A slightly off-topic comment.
    Arguable, you were one of the first people whose videos I watched on photography gear and then I got hooked up and bought more and more gear. Always loved your content.
    I'm a Sony APSC shooter and I have compelling reasons not to go full frame. But recently there has been a hype among some CZcamsrs about APSC going extinct soon.
    I know, you might think, as long as there is market, it will not go. But when newbies starting out, watch these videos, they might think APSC does not have a future and so there will be less people buying APSC cameras which can lead to diminishing market for APSC.
    You can partly prevent this by making some videos about why APSC in many many cases is just enough!
    Thanks as always.

    That haze looks nightmarish to deal with. Same weekend you took these, I took the Sigma 16 out to the Grand Canyon with my a6400. You made the right call. Your photos came out sharper.
    One downside to the Sigma primes is that the autofocus just isn't as good. They're excellent lenses, but the autofocus on the native Sony lenses can get you sharper shots more consistently even if the lens quality isn't quite as good.
    I can't tell if the haze or the lens made my Sigma 16 photos look like they were taken in 1985, because when things are very slightly out of focus, things start taking on a very strong "newspaper photo" feel - and this is at f/9, 1/125, ISO 100. How's everyone else's experience with the Sigma 16 like?

    Would you now consider the A7C with the Tamron 28-75 2.8 ? Versus A6XXX with your 16-55? Debating it myself. More expensive but similar volume/weight and all the pros of going full frame.

    I've been thinking of selling my Sigma trio prime lenses to go with a one lens set-up like this. Although with the price of the 16-55mm f2.8, I'm considering to gett a full frame zoom lens instead (something like the Sony FE 24-105 G OSS, changing my camera to the a7c someday).

    Thanks for the nice video! I recommend zoom lenses for travelers because in one lens you have all the primes together. That said, I prefer simply loading the sony 18-135 zoom lens and using that for most of my shooting. This lens gives great images. I do have the sigma 30mm and I recently got the sony 70-350mm G lens for 30% off the regular price ($660) so added this one to my kit. Because I travel internationally I back all of these lenses and use not the camera bag you showed, but sling the lenses onto a small shoulder backpack (Altura makes one). I also use just a wrist strap so no neck strap (but be careful, don't use the strap for the 70-350mm lens-it's too heavy and will break. :)

    I have been watching Arthur's videos for probably close to 10 years now, and I enjoy them a lot. This video was from September 2020, and I'm writing now July 2023. I think we all probably get a little frustrated with the simple reality that we buy products based on assessments of what's available, and of course the manufacturers keep working to offer us different improved products to spend money on. My point is that even a year ago, I don't think anybody would suggest getting an a6100 with the Sony 16-55 2.8 over an a6400 with the Tamron 17-70 2.8 with image stabilization. The main feature I'm aware of as a difference maker between the a6100 and a6400 is that I don't think the cheaper a6100 has auto ISO, which is a total deal breaker for me. Concerning the Sony new zoom and the Tamron, (and I have the Tamron), my impression is they are very close in sharpness, but the Tamron has longer reach ---and is STABILIZED. I have a lot of lenses, primes and zooms, but the 6400 with the Tamron 17-70 is a formidable paring for anything. Of course, you will need other lenses for a smaller package, and I won't even get into those details.

    Beautiful video and family, congratulations! I'd like to buy a Alpha 6600 because of the long battery, stabilization, best sealing (I think it's a future model camera), despite the price. @ArthurR The 18-135mm kit costs me 269 euros, is it worth it or would you invest it in a Sigma 16 1.4 if you had a tight budget? O definitely would you buy the A6400 + 18-135 + Sigma 16mm 1.4 or even 6100 16-55 for almost the same price as the A6600 + 18-135? Thank you!

    Actually I use a6000 with 30/1.4 and 12/2.0 ... I thought about buying the two other Sigmas too, but I hoped for a video like this and your other about 3xSigma vs. 16-55/2.8 ...
    I'm now sure to sell a6000 and Sigma 30/1.4 and buy the 6600 with 16-55/2.8 ... for very wide landscapes and northern lights I'll keep my awesome Samyang 12/2.0
    One body, two lenses, happy ... thx for it! ☺️

    Curious, I don't have any of the Sigma lenses, but I do have the Sony 35mm and 50 mm 1.8 lenses. I've been debating adding a zoom lens to replace my 16-50 and 55-210 lenses. I'd been debating between the 18-135 and the 18-105 G lenses currently. I've also been curious about the newer Sony alpha 70-350. Would it be worth selling my prime lenses and the kit lenses and getting some combination of those 3 instead. I also love my prime lenses, but i will admit going back and forth between lenses when vacationing can be a pain in the ass.

    • @zzzzzzzzz_zin
      @zzzzzzzzz_zin Před 3 lety +1

      I think it really depends on your use and budget. While you wait for other opinions, here's mine (owning 70350, 35F18, sigma56, 18105G, also the 2 kit lens.)
      1. Do you do videos? If yes, maybe you'll find 18105G more appropriate, the internal quiet powerzoom is ace, esp on gimbal. Otherwise other comments out there say 18135 is better in picture quality.
      2. 70350 is of course a relatively great value upgrade from 55210, sufficient for daytime sports and wildlife. But if its cloudy/low light, I dont like the 350mm side. But do you need the range tho?
      3. I dont know if you wanna know abt Sigma, but it's on another level compared to my sony 35mm prime. Like I said before it depends on what kind of subject you usually take, if portraits, 56mm is the real deal.
