Very interesting to hear that the induction side of the engine has a large impact to cooling and performance! Good stuff!
He was mainly referring to the connecting rod length being longer on the '22. A longer rod allows more dwell time at TDC, which not only clears the chamber better but also pulls away from TDC slower, which gives the cylinder more time to fill. Increasing the overall efficiency in multiple ways, especially the added cooling effect the denser fuel charge has on combustion.
Thanks for this. Been wanting to see the dyno on Yamaha's new 125. Great explanation on the new motor too.
Man I’m excited!
Great video Max, very informative, the dyno guy certainly knows his stuff, looking forward to the track test and you making that Yamaha scream, top quality again Max.
We'll hopefully get the test done in the next couple weeks dude, just waiting for the tracks to dry out a bit! lol Thanks for watching dude
Keep it up Max! You've been doing an awesome job!
You ever been out to the United States? Tracks and riding down here are good! Would like to go to the UK. How's it out there?
hello from greece.I really like your videos. I would like to see rare mx bikes racing or testing ,for example the aprilia twin v cylinder…Happy new year
Love dyno tests. Compare them all, I'd watch. 💪🔥
Yes I know it's 90%+ rider, but I obsess over the bikes cause it's fun.
Good to know! :D Roland is game for a dyno test anytime so i'm sure we'll have plenty more in the future :-)
Nice job/description of the bike and changes + what you can still do to it to get more performance out of it.
I would have liked to hear more about the other bikes in comparison. I believe you said that you will have that for us soon at the end of the video though.
So thanks for the video. I've actually only road a 1988-90. YZ 80 back in probably 95-96. I have to say that I was impressed with that bike all around. The size, the power, weight and even reliability. I don't know why I went to a CR 125 instead of another Yamaha 🤔 and stuck with Honda since then. Probably because jumping that CR 125 30ft+ high and 50 to 90+ft out, Landing those gaps and heights was like... driving a Cadillac when you just got done driving a 79 Ford Pinto.
Thx for a good video. Can you please try to get a GYTR kit for the bike and dyno that? Then you also have a good base line for your tuner to work against ;-)
I've been debating a KTM150sx but this makes video makes a very strong case for going with Yamaha!
go with the yamaha. i have 05 yz125 and i like it way more than my friends 2013 150sx
Hi, I would love to see a dyno test stock vs DEP + cdi + vhm head. Would be sooooo sooo fun!
Thanks great 👍
I got the 2021, and honestly im happy because the updates are new and nobody knows how reliable the new changes are. just my perspective but I do wish I got the 2022
Hi max, I met you at vip the other day. If your still struggling to find a 22 to ride you can always have a borrow of mine. Just fitted a gytr pipe brought from hardcore and it has properly woke the bike up.
Yamaha #1 boys! 🇺🇸
Yam 125 is my pic of any 125. Got some good memories on my yam. My ktm not so good lol good video again
Haha me and you both David, i've got a big soft spot for the YZ. Thanks for tuning in dude
Sorry to state what may be obvious, but some of the comments lead me to believe there is a bit of confusion. The 34.1hp Roland saw, is wheel hp, not flywheel hp. Using the 15% compensation factor commonly touted, the flywheel hp would be 1.15 x 34.1 = 39.22 hp.
Hey max love the looks of the new YZ, but I’m a little disappointed with the numbers I was sure it would’ve been a bit more, still a great bike nonetheless, thanks
i like it a lot i wonder how much it is to buy one
Nice
Whoa a 125 making 32hp!!! At the wheel!!! Woe
My 91 KX 125 had 32hp from the factory. It was on it's "birth certificate". So over 30 years ago.
Great video again , I've got 6 hours on my 22 yz125 and I love it. Also I thought it ran cooler as my friends 2021 always seem to feel a lot hotter so that's good to have it confirmed ! Can I ask what oil fuel ratio he's running ? Thanks
What about the 250 model?
There is one man, who make the difference Harald Bartol , the master of tuning @yamaha125cc, gilera, after that the godfather of the development the KTM 125cc winning bike!
I used roadrace cylinder, carb and pipe for flat track. Not good for MX, but fast as hell on long straights.
29bhp? I'd love to get my hands on a YZ250x from what I've seen it would suit my riding styles and capabilities! Great video max! It looks like ROLAND is the uk's go to guy for HGS EXHAUSTS!!
Id like to see the yz65, yz85 also being tested on the dyno
How can you dyno it without sitting on the bike??? The tire was bouncing on the roller.
Best 125 on the market 👍
On the dyno from VHM the 2022 YZ125 has almost the same curve as the Beta 125RR. I'm surprised I don't hear more talk about the beta.
For those who heard and understood the man spiting info, there was alot of good stuff I mean alot well done.. that being said you missed a key piece of information. How much was it 🤔 vs the others?
🤘🏻
I guessed 33 hp. So not miles off, but pleasantly surprised.
Edit.
But it makes me think again, how good a 4 cyl 600 road bike would be. 130 hp at the rear wheel and 130 kg dry wouldn't be impossible numbers.
✊🏻💨👍🏻
Remember these numbers are at the wheel, not the crank. Heard it's around 42hp at the crank?
Wish Yamaha would build a IT200 based off the 125 motor for Enduro.
I’ve found several 2022 yz125’s with a shifting issue. Detent spring for shift drum pops out of place. All low hour bikes. A fix should be coming from Yamaha soon.
We had the 06 and that was recalled for gearbox issues too, we didn't click on at 1st and he struggled in the amca experts 🙄 😒
My favorite year of YZ still has to be a 2001. souly for the 6 speed transmission
Max I started out on YZ’s in the 70’s it’s crazy to see em still going strong👍🏻✌️
@@ssmokinu really? I was just going off personal experience seeing other bikes, I've only ever got to ride a 2002-2004 and of course my 2001 so I'm not to sure what's out there for other models with a 6 speed, what year did they start to reintroduce ?
My us model 1991 has 34 claimed.
36?
you know how it compares to the fantic yet
29.5hp
125's used to be 40 -43 horse power more than a 250f 34 HP there's some thing wrong there
Thats it?
34
I'm not speak english so the real wheel power is?

KTM SX 150 2-stroke puts out around 40hp. That's comparable with a 250 4-stroke.
Sorry to hear that considering the Yamaha yz125 puts 39.22 hp! They gave you rear wheel hp not flywheel hp… plus I’d take the Yamaha over a KTM for them being way more reliable.
@@mxr248 am I reading your comments wrong or are you suggesting rear wheel is higher than flywheel? because it's not.
To add to that in previous replies you mentioned that the yz 125 is at 29.22hp but in this reply you're saying 39.22.
I can tell you straight, I've owned both from new recently and the sx 150 is noticeably more Powerfull when compared to a yz 125.
In terms of outright power the sx 125 also out powers the yz 125.
Not quite sure where you're going with your comments.
@@mxr248 29, not 39. Also have you owned a modern KTM? Super reliable if you do the maintenance. I'd rather have the tried, tested, and championship 2t over the "redone" (actually did as little as possible to the engine) Yamaha
peak power doesnt mean alot the 250f has power through the whole rev range
great video but ktm have 3 hp more than the new yz 125 that is another world by a 125 machine!
Every dyno is different. The only way to compare the hp between the KTM and Yamaha would be the run them on the same dyno and the same day or weather conditions. The KTM could very well have 3 more HP but its really necessary to run them on the same dyno when you compare side by side hp numbers.
my guess is 6 or 9 mor hp then the last
My crf50 puts down 50hp. Take that Yamaha
I’m thinking 40 maybe
thats not the monster energy version either the monster energy versions are faster
It's just a sticker kit, unfortunately. No mods at all on the monster editions
Don’t think this would stand a chance against a husky 125 , like 40hp
I’m pretty sure husky’s 125 tx or tc are standard 40 hp , or just slightly under
@Rossi Carmichael mate there 40hp , have a look at the specs on a husky tx 125
This is a 2019 model , 29.2KW
Its "Y-ZEE" not "Y Zed"
About as power full as the 1997 yz125
Everyone wearing Yamaha gear. "This is the nicest 2 stoke I have ever come across" LOL. Sorry bud, but this video is just a Yamaha advertisement.
The 22 has 1 more hp over 21. Pfft

Chasing the power dragon leads you down the road to 500s.. it happened to me, and I regret nothing!
L0l 😂 nice one! I am on that road right now.. went from yz250f to yz125, now considering a yz250 or cr500 😂 any tips btw ? Hahaha. Am 100kg skinny, prolly 110-120 if I’d be fat, feels like my 125 has issues dragging me but scared that a 250 or 500 would be way too much 😂
@@okerhrh4139 it probably would be too much. I'd keep the bike the suits you and then on top get a more powerful bike because if the only bike you have is way too powerful for you then you can easily mess yourself up
@@okerhrh4139 and I want to see a pic of the 500 when you get it 😂
