In this lesson, we will master what an adjective complement is.
What is an adjective complement?
An adjective complement is a group of words, a phrase or a clause, that comes next to an adjective and complements it; it complements an adjective by giving more information about it.
Important points:-
• It comes next to an adjective it complements.
• It is always more than a word.
Types of adjectives complements
1. Prepositional phrase
2. Infinitive phrase
3. Noun clause

Prepositional phrases as adjective complements
• We are excited (about your wedding).
• My father is unhappy (with my work).
• I am scared (of heights).
Infinitive phrases as adjective complements
• I am delighted (to see you again).
• The little boy is scared (to see his results).
• Jon will be surprised (to see me alive).
Noun clauses as adjective complements
• I am delighted (that all my students have passed their exams).
• We were shocked (when she came back).
• It was amazing (how you changed their lives).
Modifiers(adverbs) vs Adjective complements
An adjective complement complements an adjective, completes its meaning. And an adverb that modifies an adjective simply describes it. So, an adjective complement has more value and importance in a sentence than an adverb modifying an adjective.
• I was very shocked to see you again.
Modifier(adverb) - very
Adjective complement - to see you again
The sentence will be fine without the adverb but has more importance of the adjective complement.
Task: modify these sentences by adding adjective complements in them.
• Last night, they weren't pleased.
• I am disgusted.
• Her father seems angry.
• You will be thrilled.

Wow! It`s mind blowing. It, indeed, dispels all the confusions in my mind. The explanations are clear and concise. Now, I am breathing a sigh of relief.
As always, you told me to keep learning. I doing so, from the book Wren & Martin, I come to an explanation, which reads as follows:
" Usage , however, permits in certain cases such constructions as the following where the participle is left without a proper "subject of reference". (The Participle in such cases is called an Impersonal Absolute.)
1. Taking everything into consideration, the Magistrate was perfectly justified in issuing those orders.
2. Considering his abilities, he should have done better.
3. Roughly speaking, the distance from here to the nearest railway station is tow miles.
It will be noticed that in the above instances the unexpressed subject is indefinite. Thus , "Roughly speaking" = If one speaks roughly.

@@EnglishWithAshish In fact, Prepositional phrase, Infinitive phrase and Noun clause: all are qualifying the adjectives..so we can say these are behaving as adverb.. The reason they are called Adjective Complements is that they complete the meaning of Adjectives apart from modifying them...It is as per my understanding

The first refers to the same time as the time of the main verb, which is needed. Hence, it's appropriate.
