Thank you!
I have a Tusk side racks and you helped me find a solution for soft luggage that is narrow and good for tight traffic conditions...
Great review
I am glad you have the tusk pannier rack system as I purchased the same rack and was just guessing if this luggage system would work with it! The tusk rack is 18mm dia. and the Givi luggage system has a 16mm and 18mm dia. bracket, that's all I went on when I purchased everything! This video is nice for confirmation of that!
Nice set of bags. Good alternative to the Givi Aluminum ones.
Great review. I have aluminum panniers on my Tiger 800 but been thinking to get some soft bags. These look exactly what I'm looking for.
I have been using them for over a year in all kinds of conditions. They have been really great saddlebags.
Great vid, many thanks.
Some nice features. Like that removable waterproof system, the lock is meaningless. My 2-month-old soft bags we slit and all the content stolen. I was left with useless bags. In 10 years never had my aluminum bags messed with. Thanks for a nice video.
That's awful. I am reserving the soft bags when I will be offroad. I am adding aluminum panniers for security when touring.
I have been looking into these thanks for the review . I’ll be replacing my lomo bags next year.
I did a follow-up video to this you should watch. czcams.com/video/fguW-2PUIUs/video.html
These look great, best solution for a replacement for my Givi hard TRK Monokeys. The Nylon plate looks like it'll fit straight onto the existing Givi rack I have. Good video Matt!
Questionable mounting design. That plate makes Givi's PL racks incompatible with Monokey cases, so if I want to go with soft luggage for an off-road trip today - I have to mount this plate. Then, when I want to put back the Trekker cases (TRK33 in my case) for a kind of trip where hard luggage is more suitable - I have to get that plate off the bike. Which is too much hassle, and knowing Givi's "quality", putting that plate on and off multiple times will eventually wear something out and it'll stop working properly. This is bad design. They should've made it with Monokey mount out of the box, so that all the people that already have monokey racks would just use these bags in the same plug&play way as hard cases. And everyone else, with generic tubular racks - those folks would use a plate that converts their racks to monokey mount. This, plus multiple reports of these bags getting damaged on light impact, and being hugely overpriced for what they are (as most of givi stuff is though) - I'm not gonna be buying these. And they're quite heavy as well, TRK33 case is 5.2-5.3kg, and these, according to another review on youtube, are 3.2kg each + almost 1kg for the plate with fasteners. Again, due to bad design (everyone has to install that stupid heavy plate), it's ~4.2kg for each side = only 1kg lighter than a plastic hard case. Hopefully givi will eventually make some soft luggage that fits their own standard mounts instead of making everyone install these weird plates.
@@MeOrNotMeWhoKnows OK...so you're not a fan. What are you going to use instead? I have TRK's and they are just too heavy. They weigh more than the contents. Interested to know your thoughts.
@@GavCritchley For now I'll just stick with TRK33 cases. I'd like to have something lighter too, but 1kg savings per side is just not enough difference for me. And there's no way I'm gonna be putting those plates on and off every time I switch between hard and soft luggage. I don't plan to replace my TRK's though as you do, I'm just looking for lighter soft luggage for some trips while still keeping the plastic cases for others. If you don't need your TRK's and you're looking for soft luggage to replace your plastic cases with, then maybe these GRT709 will work for you just fine - you'll only have to install those plates once after all. This season is almost over for me anyway, the next multi-thousand km trip is only happening in April 2020 (and that's likely to be Georgia and Armenia, so plenty of off-road where I'm likely to bring some soft luggage), got a few months to find something suitable. If givi doesn't release any monokey-compatible soft luggage till the next Spring, I'll either go with some other brand, or even try DIY. There's a Russian dude I follow on youtube that went to that region a few times and after struggling with aluminum cases he decided to go with DIY soft luggage next time. Which is ~ $20 in his estimation. :) czcams.com/video/Ohc0RsyE5zA/video.html&t= I might do something similar, though I'd try to add monokey mounting to those to be able to lock them with just a click, like hard cases do. Not gonna cost me $20, of course, but definitely a lot less than givi asks for GRT709. :)
@@MeOrNotMeWhoKnows I'd be interested to see what you choose. Best of luck with your travels.
@@MeOrNotMeWhoKnows I've just watched that Russian guys video. I think he's onto something there. I think they must be 20-25 litre canisters? I'd so a similar thing, but just bolt a sturdy wire mesh frame onto one side, drop that over the monokey studs, and padlock it on. 25 litre canisters are £18 a pair. Then either drop in dry bags or find something else that fits.
Thank you for all the info, and good video job👍👍👍
About the product, the plastic parts Attached to the tubing rack , it is tough enough for don't easy broke if the bike drope whiteout the luggage on,......
The plastic parts were fine when I dropped the bike without the luggage. I had one plastic clip break but replaced it with a spare no problem.
@@advmatt thank you 👍
nice review, answers many of my questions! bags are looking nice and well thought-out, my only concern is that plastic bracket that holds the mounting plate, would be better if they could make it CNC alloy... what do you think? or is it sturdy enough? as it holds the whole weight basically
Thanks. So far I have not had issues with the mounting plate and I take the bags on and off all of the time. I tend to overload the bags too. I have not dropped the bike with these bags so I am not sure how they will hold up when the bike goes down. I think in a hard enough crash the plate might give but it would have to pretty hard, in my opinion. The ease in which these bags can be taken on and off, the space they provide and functionality has so far been worth it to me over other bags.
You got my like mister 👍
You might want to watch my follow up video as well.

On the givi quick release racks, this is the best combo. Nice review!!!! Hope they worked out for you
I did another video after two years of using these bags. I was less than impressed. They did not hold up as well as I had hoped, especially for the cost. For light travel they are great, but for rough offroad riding they didn't fair too well.
@@advmatt hmmmm....will go watch now. That's disappointing. I'm a touring/light gravel roads kinda guy on my gs adventure.
When those break look at the Bumont Xtremada soft bags.
Thanks for the suggestion they look like good bags.
Thank you for your feedback! Great bags! I wonder how they bear falls.
My bike has gone down several times with these bags without issues, but nothing extreme. Some others have complained the bags came apart too easily. I have been happy with the bags.
@@advmatt Thank you for your feedback. I'll buy the same ones.
Thanks for this great info! One question...Since the bags hook downwards onto the plate, can they pop off if riding over very bumpy terrain?
I recommend you watch another video I put together linked here, and I did end up losing my right side bag, I either didnt get locked I to place well enough or it broke off. Also check out my video titled, 'When everything goes wrong.' These bags are highlighted. Hope this helps. czcams.com/video/fguW-2PUIUs/video.html
Thank you!
If you havent seen my long term review may want to check it out. It posted a few weeks ago.
Amazing video ,Dose the mounting plate comes along with the bags ?
Thanks, and yes the mounting plates and brackets come with the bags.
Hey Matt, where in NM are you at? I'm in the ABQ area and I just picked up a F850GS Adventure from Sandia BMW. Do you ride in any ADV groups?
Congrats on the new bike. I live in ABQ too. I rarely ride with any groups but there are several here you should connect. There is an official group called The Enchanted Riders of NM or something like that. They have info at the BMW shop. There are also two Facebook groups, GS Riders of New Mexico and the Triumph Tiger Troop of the Southwest. I have ridden with people from both groups and they are active on Facebook. Really great group of riders. I have trouble with timing working with group rides. There is also a BMW rally in Sipapu in the fall. I keep missing it but hear it is good. Cheers.
Thanks for review! How is it with a pillion? Is it uncomfortable for pillion?
Not sure yet, I haven't had a pillion with this luggage. I have sat on the bike like a pillion and my legs didn't contact it.
Thanks for the great info, how are they doing? I've heard they are not very tough..
So far the bags are fine. I have not had any drops to test their durability. I have enjoyed the ability to remove them. Almost 6k miles of travel on them in all weather conditions. So far no issues. I think the main bag is only 30 liters. The extra 5 liters come from the external pouches. I didn't know that until I started packing regularly.
The only downside to this bag is don't overload it with heavy stuff as in really heavy where the bags just looks like its gonna fall off. Chances are you won't notice that the stiches in the bag gets loosen.
I just released a review of this bag after 2 years and 30k miles. I had issues.
@@advmatt Oh wow just uploaded 2 days ago. Might as well check it.
Dude. Awesome bags. Will these fit a 2018 Bonneville?
These bags are fairly universal, but your need side racks to mount them. If you have racks on your bike you should be able to fit them.
If the base plate is a universal fit, can it mount on a touratech panniers rack? Any idea?
I am pretty sure you can get the mounting plate to mount to touratech racks as long they dont have an exhaust offset like you will find on BMW GS bikes. You have to have a flush mount.
Matt how do you find the Canyons 1 year on? how have you found it compares to the Rigg Gear?
I prefer the Canyon's over the Rigg saddlebags for a bunch of reasons. One, I like to be able to easily remove the bags from the bike. I don't care that it leaves the mounting plate. That doesn't bother me. Two, the open bottle holder compartment on the back of the bags is really useful adding functionality. Three, the nylon outer part of the bag is more abrasion resistant than the Riggs. Four, the Canyons have more space. With that said there are few things have came up since I have been using them. The inner backing plate to the bags has started to sag a bit allowing the bags to droop away from the bike. Its not much, but I notice it. I also had one of the nylon nut covers inside the bags come off and rub a hole through the inner dry bag. It was easily fixed. I have spent a lot of time offroad with these bags and have dropped the bike enough times to know these overall held up better than the Riggs did. I have seen some complaints about these bags that they don't hold up if you have an OFF at speed. I cant' speak to that. If I had to choose between the Canyons and the Riggs, even with the cost difference I would take the Canyons. Overall I think the Canyons are a more useful and functional option. I hope this helps. Cheers.
Hi Matt, Did you ever do a 1 year follow-up on the Givi bags? If not, are you still happy with them? Did they hold up? Thank you!
I did not, but one is coming in the next few months. They have held up reasonably well but i have learned a few things that will be easier to describe in a video. Overall I still like these bags and their functionality.
Did you see the kriegabags?
Hey Matt. Who is the amazon seller that you got a good deal from? I can’t find them from anyone around what you paid. Thanks chris
The seller was Classic Cycle Parts. The bags would go on sale every four or five days for about 24 hours. I watched them do this for several weeks before deciding to buy.
What is mount plate do u use ( nylon) I can't find it?
The bags come with a the nylon backing plate when you order them. If you purchase them used you might not receive them and will need to talk to an authorized dealer to get a set ordered.
Is anyone using this on tiger 1200
Hi Matt
Re mounting brackets on the givis do you think they would fit on the SW Motech pro panniers. As they are not tubular..are the mounting brackets wide enough to cover that? Just can't find any info on these bags and the racks I have installed.
I just pulled out one of the spare inner clamps. The widest rack it will accept is 1 1/4" or approximately 32mm. The depth is 1/4" or 6.35mm. I looked at this pannier rack and I think there are ways to adapt the plate but it will take some engineering. These plates won't bolt up using the brackets. I do think you might be able to remove the tabs on the rack and use those spots to attach the mounting plate. It might require a little drilling. Hope this helps.
@@advmatt thanks for your time and effort. The only reason I want these racks are they can be removed quickly when not using. I have the 790 adventure
@@nigelspoljaric8363 That was the same reason I went with them.
@@advmatt sorry Matt you have the Sw Motech pro panniers? Are you planning to put the givi on these?
I dont have those panniers. I have Tusk panniers that I mounted these on. I might move the bags to my KTM 390 Adventure, but I bought a tubular luggage rack for it.
Do u have a fuel tank attached to your bike (behind rear seat)?
Yes, I did, I had a rotopax mounted to my rear rack, never needed it.
@@advmatt thanks
Salut est ce que tu peux m' indiquer le poids des sacoches?
Merci
Un sac sans plaque de montage pose 3,2kg.
How did you put the roto-pak in there? I will like to know
The mounting plate for bags has channels in it. I use two spacers on the inside, ran bolts through them with aluminum strapping between the bolts. I mounted the rotopax mounting plate to the aluminum strapping. I will do a quick video to show it in the next few weeks.
I would like to see the video about the rotopax as well.
Hi...What kind or rack is this on the bike
It is a Tusk rack. I bought it from Rocky Mountain ATV/Motorcycles located in Utah.
Do the bags interfere with passenger legs?
Nope. Passenger wont have any trouble as long as the mounting plate sits back far enough.
Can you tell me if they stay the same size on both sides of the bike? Or if one size sticks more outside than the other?
Same size. Depends on your rack, if it is symmetric.
@@advmatt i would go for the Givi Rack
It will be symmetrical on both sides
@@advmatt thanks, by the way what is your bikes rack ?
I have a Tusk rack only available from Rocky Mountain ATV and Motorcycle. It is their house brand. It was more cost effective.
Do you think they will interfere with a Givi 52 outback top box? I already got the 709s (used on a different bike) but looking to use in my GSA.
I am not sure, it might depend on the luggage rack. I just measured my bags, which aren't currently loaded for a trip, and there is 24 inches between them. My dry bag sits on the tail rack fine. Hope this helps.
Fitted these yesterday is your lock stiff?
Yes, it was initially. As I used the bags and took them on and off it got a bit easier. I also found if the mounting plate is twisted or warped from installing it the lock is really tight. I had to adjust the mounts on one side to keep the mounting plate flat. Then everything worked well.
How much does the pannier + hardware weigh?
Approximately 10 pounds.
Very cool system. Do you know what they weigh? Cheers
That was a great question so I went to the garage and weighed one of the bags. It was 7.2lbs. I think the entire system, both bags, mounting plates and hardware will come in around 20lbs plus or minus a bit.
@@advmatt Thanks for the speedy response Matt. Enjoy!
You are the first person in the world to weigh these bags. Thanks so much. Very useful.
I did go with the BC35S from mosko moto and they are about the same weight.
The BC35s are much more money but the warranty and durability sold me
Hi How are the bags holding up?
Overall pretty well. The bags have hit the dirt a few times, slow speed, with no issues. On the inside mounting plate a plastic cover came off one of the bolts and rubbed through the inner dry bag. It was easy to fix. The bags have a steel backer plater that has started sagging a bit at the top corners. Not too bad, but noticable. I am still happy with the bags. They have served me well for the kind of riding and travel I do.
Rotopax mount?
I will get a short video put together showing the mount. It might take a few weeks. But, yes, a Rotopax mount.
Dude are they strong enough like moskomoto?
I have never used Mosko Moto bags so I can't do a fair comparison. I think the bags are similar in design. I also haven't had any hard crashes with these bags to really test out their durability, if that is what you asking about. I have been able to keep the bike upright so far this year.
What’s the review of these bags after using these for ride?
@@MrArunsikri I like the bags a lot. I take them on and of all the time, which is really easy. The roll top works well, but the side buckles tend to twist a bit once strapped down. The waterproofing has been tested numerous times and has passed. I like the big pouch at the back, it makes for convenient storage. So far I wouldn't hesitate to buy these again. I haven't tested if they would hold up to a hard crash. I try not to do that. Hope this helps.
The problem is that the bag can not be close whit a padlock 🙄
There are some cable locking strap options but nothing easy to use.
What rear rack are you running?
Givi tail rack. It is lowered to match the one piece seat.
@@advmatt ah interesting - do you have the part number? Thought it was an altrider one at first due to the shape and lack of monokey mounting pegs.
@@Silentethief you are right, it is the Alt Rider tail rack. This bike is in storage and I cant get to it now to check.
@@advmatt no worries thanks for confirming!
no price? just advertising
I paid $525, check out my updated video for this luggage from two months ago, much different story
Warning, they are fragile, a single 3-day outing and some reinforcements pierce the fabric
I have read that in a few places. So far I haven't had any issues but the bike has been upright all year so these bags haven't really been tested.
@@advmatt i can send you some pics. the worst is that GIVI refuse the guarantee for... bad usage
@@AurelienL92 I have seen a few pictures of these bags coming apart at the seems in minor tip overs. I am having difficulty getting in contact with Givi to ask some questions. Not happy about it. I will take these bags as far as I can. I hope you get something worked out.
Don’t think so ! In my opinion kriega is much better and safe
Yeah, I agree. I did a follow up video two years later. These bags did not hold up. After two years of use I did not like them.
@@advmatt I got ya . Kriega gives you 10 years warranty, but we also have lone rider that is manufactured in china if I’m not sure they give you only 2yrs warranty but they are overprice and can’t beat kriega at all. Ride safe mate your footages are really good ! Keep it up
Frankly these bags are a disappointment. The warrent basicly covers nothing and the bags will disintigrate in no time. best spend your money else where. kriega and mosko moto will be the best
I did a review video of these bags. I was not pleased with them in the end.
