  • Suriname is often branded internationally as the most forested country and with a capital on the UNESCO heritage list. While most tourists travel to the interior to experience typical Suriname nature, there are also to a lesser extent activities to spot and experience nature closer by in the city. Some cities in the world are famous for how urban green spaces attract many tourists, such as the Cherry-Blossom trees in Japan, the famous Central Park in New York, or the botanical gardens in Latin American cities.
September 27th is World Tourism Day. Is there value in urban green spaces for tourism in Paramaribo? What can we learn from examples abroad and what would fit best in our tropical and cultural contexts? In what ways can UGS add value to the tourism industry and help the city live up to the country’s brand?
