One of the best videos I have ever watched!! As a beginner, this video helped me clear a purpose of each tool. Extremely helpful. Thank you!!
Glad to hear you found this tutorial helpful! And thank you for the kind feedback 😀
I'm not even done watching this video yet and this is by far the most excellent video explaining each tools' usage that I've seen yet. I'm brand new to turning so this is exactly what I needed--thanks!
Sir by far the best video out there explaining what each tool does and how to do it. I’m gonna save this and run out to my rockler store and get some new tools. I’ve been using carbide scrapper and round head? Tools and I’m feeling limited.
You are very welcome, thanks for watching!
Lathe Tools 101 - This was an awesome and concise video. All my answers in 11 minutes.Thank you for the great and informative video!
Why can't everything be this good. Loved the video, explained so clearly and the video'ing is just spot on. Well done and Thank you!!!
I absolutely agree, Gary! So easy to understand and demonstrated, that it was very easy to go to my lathe and actually have confidence and success.
wow, I'm bummed to only be finding this now! perfectly splendid editing and lessons! it's already sped up on the parts that need it. very concise info throughout. I've been turning for a few years off and on and never seen it broken down so properly. thank you!
Impeccable detail, analysis, and information. Thank you lol. I went into this blind and definitely had my tools mixed up based on labeling
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
This is a perfect demonstration for a beginner like me! So glad I came across this video. Thanks!
Thank you for taking your time and explaining well. Having your camera at that angle, sure helped and seeing what you were saying at the same time. I’m hoping to get a lathe and I think I’ve almost got my husband talked into it.🤞🤞
Great video my wife brought me a Axminster craft AC305WL woodturning lathe now looking for wood turning chisels. I found this video very helpful thank you
What a fantastic video. Am interested in getting into Woodturning but a little perplexed by all the elements. This was packed with information, very clear, easy to understand and makes me think I might be able to have a crack at it.
Solid tutorial from a good teacher - thank you
Very informative i.ll be watching many more.
Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching!
I've just bought a lathe. This is the site I needed. Thank you so much.
As a beginner I found this the best and most informative video, looking forward to watching more of collins videos 👍
Turned my first cylinder today. Thank you for the instruction.
Glad you found the video useful. Hope your turning goes well. 🙂
Thank you i need this detailed video.
Best!! Thank you !
So impressed with Axminster can’t wait to start my new hobby/ pastime
👍🏻
I haven’t used a lathe since I was at school back in the 1960s, but I’ve recently purchased a very cheap “hobby” lathe from Lidl and I want to start making small stuff, mostly just for fun . . . I like making sawdust!
This is a great guide to what chisels I need and how to start using them. Thank you for an excellent, interesting and informative guide to get me started.
Absolutely brilliant sir straight to the point ,specially the explanation on the tools and their use, thank you.👍
Great job! You are quick to get to the point but explain things brilliantly.
Brilliant video. I understand a lot more now. Ill be putting it into practice tomorrow. Thank you
Thanks. I just can't get past the feeling that I am a beginner. Been a little over a year since power and a cleaned up bench. Hoping to get back out and play with my lathe again. Thank you very much!
Nice presentation 👏
Lots of tips .
Thanks 😊
Thanks, 74 yrs old and just getting into wood turning. Bought an old craftsman metal lathe and converting into wood. Haven't turned wood since 6th grade. My new hobby, I hope lol. Appreciate your teaching.
Hope it all goes well and don't forget our channel features lots of helpful tutorials and project ideas to help you on your journey. Good luck!
Best and useful video i have ever seen. Ty.
Superb video ! Explains what each tool can be used for, I now know what to buy.
excellent video
Great video
Fantastic, these videos are a real boost, I am new to Woodturning and thought I would have to wait until COVID had gone before I could buy a lathe and get on a training course, now I can buy my lathe and train on line. Thanks Axminster…
A really excellent demonstration and explanation. Bravo!
Nice class for the beginners.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for your feedback
Just exactly what I need as a novice…
Great video thanks
I’ve been woodworking for over 45 years and turning for the last 20 (?). So, I’m experienced and reasonably skilled. For any newcomers, I can vouch that this is an excellent video with all that you need to know to get good results quickly. If only, it had been around when I started.
I’ve downsized my lathe now to an Axminster machine. Looks very much like the one on the video - perhaps a little smaller. Having had a large, much more expensive lathe, I can say that the Axminster does not represent a step down in quality.
I have no connection with Axminster other than as a customer of many years.
Great to hear you enjoyed our video and thank you for your kind words
This was so clearly and expertly done. Appreciate it!

Excellent. I especially like the close-up of the business end of the tool and your concise narrative throughout the video. Wish I could give you a 👍👍👍👍👍 on the like button. Greetings from Kentucky!
Wonderful instruction. Thank you for the tips and advice!
I already know it's not going to be nearly as easy as you make it seem but I'm looking forward to following along once I have my lathe setup. Great video!

Hi James, that's great to hear our videos are helping teach the next generation of woodworkers. Thanks for sharing.
I like making skews and chisels for the lathe from vintage firmer chisels.

Great Job! I purchased a lath a few years ago and finally got around to using it. While purchasing other used tools I acquired about a dozen old lath tools. I have ordered the sharpening equipment for the tools and now I have an understanding of what each tool does. Great job on your video.

Great stuff thanks bro
Thanks very much - this is exactly what I was looking for! I'm not into wood turning but I've bought a set of these chisels and made a tool rest for my metal lathe so I can make small pieces like tool handles.
Your explanations of which tool to choose and how to use it are excellent! Learned more in 11 minutes than in watching hours of other videos. Bookmarked for future reference!
You've encouraged me subscribe and explore wood turning in more detail. I've too many hobbies as is, so I don't know if I should thank you for that ;) Cheers!

Thanks for your feedback. The are a few things to consider when buying a lathe, watch this video for more information on how to choose a lathe to suits your needs - czcams.com/video/KtqPnrRdDWA/video.html hope this helps
I want to thank you all. X
This movie is verry help full my question how is the best speed lathe for beginners?
Hi there, the speed of the lathe will be determined by the type of project and ability.
I want to buy this wood turning machine tell me the price please and also it's tools
Just about to buy my first 15cm bench lathe do I need smaller bench tools for this lathe? Thank you.
Hi Terry, here is Colwin's reply: "No, you can use the same size lathe, however, sometimes, especially when bowl turning, you will find the bed can get in the way of the longer handles on bowl gouges. Also the cut from a larger gouge can cause problems with lathes of smaller motors just not having the power to drive through the cut." I hope this helps.
I want this tool
Do you hold classes?
👍👍👍
