To be clear: All this means is cleaning up the 16mm/35mm negatives so they look new. It's the exact same thing Criterion does. This isn't a George Lucas situation.

I never thought it was, but this word of explanation is necessary (no sarcasm intended). I can't wait to see restored versions of the earlier movies. Watching Father McGruder "kick arse for the Lord" in 4K? Count me the fuck in!
Exactly. There’s 0 chance of getting an amazing 4K quality out of Bad Taste or Braindead. I have a “1080p” version of Braindead in Blu-Ray and it’s just a bad 720p HDTV rescaled to 1080p and I think it’s the best it can actually look.
I would not be so confident we are NOT going to get a higher res version. My take on how Jackson phrased that leaves open the possibility he is using the newer AI software, which literally DOES produce a higher resolution version, not just one free of age defects. A dream of mine would be to have a serious badass "trilogy" set with Bad taste,Meet the feebles and Braindead, but any serious HD release of them would make me happy

It would be great. I'm hoping for an option to reinstate a few deleted scenes that were shot, because that scene with Void getting out of the basement during the party helps me feel like the party's actually ongoing. The party seems to go by too quickly, otherwise.

@@Will21st I don’t think so: I am pretty positive PJ owns those early movies in toto. Things might be a bit trickier with Heavenly Creatures. It could be another James Cameron-style thing.

@@lairofhorrors1756 after what James Cameron did with Aliens and True Lies, I am a bit worried about these remasters. The post-house those abomination crawled out of is owned by PJ and it is the same one that created the restoration\uprezzing process he used in "They shall never grow old" and his Beatles documentary.
Hearing him talk about Bad Taste is great. He may have moved up in the world, but that is still his best movie!
Meet the Feebles has never been released on good quality.. I enjoyed these movies a lot and would love to see them in good quality..

I'd rather have Arrow do it. Their 4K sets are luxurious. Scream Factory feels so cheap in comparison, and the quality control is absolutely dreadful. Anyways, the stuff Peter Jackson says in this video is worrying. Sounds like he wants to drench everything in DNR and do a regrade on the colors...

The bad quality has a charm and I don't really need to see it cleaned to 4k.

That is true. Less is more. I am fine with both DVD and Blu-ray quality. 4K is too addicting.
If we're not going to get these in 4k, at least re-release them on Blu-ray. My DVD copy of Braindead isn't going to last forever.

Saw Meet The Feebles, a very good puppet film. If you hated The Happytime Murders, then Meet The Feebles is the adult muppet movie for you.

I only like the stuff from his early comedy/splatter/b-movie stage. His later more commercial projects bore me. I wish he could've evolved (for his own monetary benefit) to be more commercially successful without losing his original flavor.

Jan Kjellin except that’s not what he’s saying he’s saying remastering the films every remaster you see goes through this process. You have to basically scan the negative go through it frame by frame fixing it up. Then open all the sound files clean them up. What you will get is a higher quality picture. But yeah when people say they want the original Star Wars back restores the amount of changes that have to be made in this day and age to get it looking good are so extreme it won’t feel like the original especially in the sound mix.

Remastering is fine, but it also opens up for adding "improved" CGI backgrounds and so on - which also was the big problem with Star Wars, which were insanely tampered with beyond just remastering them.
And somehow, I get the feeling Peter won't be satisfied with just remastering these films. I hope I'm wrong, though... ;)
Jan Kjellin there is nothing that’s ever given me that vibe about him. Especially after the first hobbit commentary when Phillipa asks him if he would go back and put Martin in fellowship of the ring and he says maybe but he would never want that version of the film to be lost. I had no issue personally with what Lucas did to Star Wars they are his films mainly he should be allowed to do with them what he wants. But I do find it interesting people are fine with the 5.1+ remixes which would include a complete restructuring and altering of the sound track but hate that done to the visuals. In my mind they are both the same thing
@@c17sam90 I have a 4k remaster of Jörg Buttgereit's "Nekromantik", which was originally shot on Super 8. Picture and sound has been enhanced, but not changed. It's still the same movie as the one I saw on VHS back in the day. That can not be said about Star Wars after Lucas reworked them.
My worries are that, with the access to technical solutions that Jackson has, the possibility/risk that he'll use these tools to rework the old movies to better suit his "original vision" or whatever, is not too far fetched.
Again, I hope I'm wrong.
Jan Kjellin but again the enhancements of the image is a better quality image then what would have been screen in the cinemas. It’s an altered image. Star Wars was never the same. The home video version varied from the various cinema releases versions. The laser disc versions were different then the VHS. There is no true original that got released on home video.
I never got a alteration feel vibe off this video. I got a HD remaster vibe.
