Im planning to use this to regulate an 800w lights set. Since you've said you dont think it can really handle those 2kw its supposed to handle, do you think it will still be ok if I use for my lights set for long sessions (up to 10 hours)
Output voltage can be fixed by adjusting pot given on circuit.
i have a yiking car polisher of 2000w
its speed even on 1st step is way to fast for polishing or compounding
i want to decrease its speed to atleast half(or 50-70%)

Output peak voltage is not how this controller works, it works by delaying turning on the triac for the last nth of each half-cycle of the AC power: at 50% it turns on for the last half of each half-cycle, at 10% it turns on for the last 1/10th of each half-cycle. The apparent voltage drop is due to operating it set to less than 50%, meaning the triac is turning on only after the AC sine wave has passed its peak. If you power this from a modified sine wave inverter (square wave output) you will see no voltage drop as you turn the potentiometer, but it will actually work better. This one has a trim adjuster (blue component with the screw in the top) so that you can tune the cut-in threshold for the triac to the load you are using and get a much better range of control.

Anyone help me please 😵. I bought same one. When I test the voltage ~ on the multimeter it doesn't change ? It stays at 220v. But when I connect it to a fan it does actually decrease and increase the fan speed correctly. What's happening here?

Yes, but dunno if it will introduce signal noise, but it can be used to lower 220v to 120V and 150w is peanuts for this controller, it's cheap as dirt, so why not try it.

If you want to add ac volt meter without a load it won't read the correct voltage? You need a small load, 240v 5 to 10 watt filament bulb on the output, should do the trick, and then you can set a voltage like 110 vac before you connect a load!

Mr Electron yes so if you have earth cable on the AC MOTOR would you tape it off
For Speed adjustment in inductive AC motors you must adjust the frequency. Adjusting the peak voltage may reduce the power and thus torque which may appear to slow the motor due to being slowed down more by the resistance of the rotation load. but this will not be very consistent speed regulation.
These units are great for things like incandescent bulb dimming and temp lowering on your soldering iron. but not for inductive loads.
It will over hear your electric motor by reducing its voltage
Is VFD the only way to control the speed of AC induction motor. Because it's so expensive that I can't use it for my project but I still need some device to reduce its speed.
