    Guangdong is actually a place that pays great attention to health preservation. They care a lot about the so-called harmony of yin and yang, that is, they need to achieve a balance. For example, the heat she said Allan, is not the kind of heat in the weather temperature, but the heat in your body. In the eyes of Cantonese people, this kind of heat is the excessive yang, which leads to many problems in the body, and the formation of this heat is related to diet. If you eat a lot of fried or irritating things, your body will become hot. Therefore, Cantonese people call herbal tea as "cool tea", which means that it can cool down the heat in your body, that is, suppress the yang a little, so that the yin can recover, then your body will become balanced and healthy. By the way, there is an old Chinese saying that good medicine tastes bitter, so Allan's bottle of herbal tea must be very bitter.

    ✨ Alan and Shannon, you're killing me! Squid has been my favorite food in China for 23 years! Just watching you eat it.....I'm so jealous! Not on menu in 99% of U.S. Chinese restaurants, especially here in Washington DC area, but if I ask quietly if they have squid, they often quietly say yes and make some for me. They almost always say Yes, that's what we eat in the kitchen! 😍

    The black skinned chicken is the Silkie chicken. These fancy chickens are actually very popular as pets because their feathers are like fur and also very docile! They look like a chicken dressed in white fur coat and hat. Some have been specially bred with black, brown or grey feathers. There are also another breed of chickens which have black feathers, black skin, black beak everything. Ayam Cemani are found in Indonesia.

    Yes, You can eat the brown skin of the coconut fine. Not sure why she said no. But is fine albeit texture a bit woodier 😅. The black skin chicken is called a Silkie chicken. It has higher nutrition value than normal white skin chickens according to Chinese medicine. It doesn't look too appealing, but tastes no different to white chicken (well maybe its more chickeny in flavour). It's not very meaty so usually used more in soup. It's feathers are generally white and fluffy despite the flesh being dark.

      @flyingnan2520 Před 2 měsíci

      @@fatdoi003 Ah, I don't think it's a "fault". Nobody defines that they should only eat Cantonese food in Canton. It's just me as a local Cantonese to feel pity. To the foreigners both Cantonese food and Lanzhou ramen are something new. To me this kind of random decision is interesting. They sometimes discover some hidden beauty which the local people automatically ignored.

    • @fatdoi003
      @fatdoi003 Před 2 měsíci

      @@flyingnan2520 i kind of disagree with that... china's regional cuisines are very unique to provinces, you may get a blend of each province in border cities but eating other provinces foods in Guangzhou may not be an authentic experience... from watching Pin Cheng Ji品城記 they always say it's very hard to find authentic foods in Guangdong other than Cantonese foods...

    That fishy smell and flavor you describe is from the grounded up bones of flatfish such as flounder or sole and they put the powder into the broth. Now that’s an authentic bowl of wonton noodles. Similarly it’s also how it’s done in Hong Kong and Macau. There are only a handful of places in the U.S. and Europe that actually use the flatfish powder.

Of course, the price is a bit more expensive than regular chicken. The tea you drink is herbal tea unique to Guangdong Province. It is a kind of tea soup made from traditional Chinese medicine. 19:58 It is recommended not to stir it, it is free for public use, which means you can eat it, and the leftovers after your meal will be reserved for the next guest, which means you can eat it all, or use only a spoon to pick a portion of it, and if you don't eat it, don't touch it, and stirring it over and over again without eating it or pouring it out, which is a very impolite behaviour (especially in Guangdong and Fujian Province), and the boss will throw them all away in public when he finds out that you do this, and then throw them all away when you leave. When the boss finds out you are doing this, he will throw them all away in public after you leave, as it will make the next guest feel offended, which is a local custom.
