Reasons for Regeneration - Why did the actors leave Doctor Who?

- Over Doctor Who's long history, what prompted the decision to leave for those in the lead role of the Time Lord known as The Doctor.
With the 13th Doctor recently announced (expect a video on that soon!) and the 12th Doctor's time in the TARDIS coming to an end I look back through the history of the show to investigate why the actors have left one of the most sought after acting jobs in television.

Hi everyone! On reflection the narration on this video could have been a lot better and thanks to some of the helpful comments that where left I have now realised this and have used the advice to help make myself better at narrating. I feel like I have improved a lot and I think this shows in my History of the Daleks video! I would like to apologise if the narration didn't make the video enjoyable for you. I like constructive critism but comments like "your voice is annoying" aren't particularly helpful or going to boost my confidence in any way. Thanks to everyone for watching and giving this video so many views and supporting the channel so much Thanks and I'll hopefully see you in the next video ☺☺☺ - The Whoniverse.
Hey - no-one's perfect! I think you did a great job of presenting a lot of information clearly. Thanks for taking the time to make and upload this video. (BTW I'm a Tom Baker fan through and through - he was 'my' Doctor...)
I think you're doing a great job. Your writing is well done and informative, and your voice is just the right volume and tone for the narration you've written. If I could offer one piece of advice, it would be to do extra takes of the narration, and edit together the ones where you don't mess up on reading the narration. But that would be the only thing I'd fix, and it's not bad at all as is. The fact that you don't have a bunch of "ums" and the like in there is already a positive, so if you just fixed some of the minor flubs when speaking it would make these videos perfect. ...But believe me, I know that can be a lot of extra time in the editing lab, so don't worry about complete perfection. Thank you for putting out such quality videos. I really appreciate the work you do. Keep up the good work!
It's worth redoing if you have the time. It's a great video.
Haters gonna hate.
What you were saying in the video was good, but the awkward pauses, while slightly annoying, certainly didn't ruin the video. Here's hoping to more videos in the future
Imagine... If any other man had been cast as the First Doctor, we likely wouldn't have any more! He really was perfect for the role, even in his sickness.
and if Troughton was not successful in the role, we would not have had another regeneration either. After that it was ok for them to swap actors...
And if Christopher eccelston wasn't hired there may be chance we wouldn't have the revived series
So, Hartnell left because he was ill.
Troughton left because of the fear of typecast.
Pertwee left because of the death of his friend Roger Delgado, (who played the Master)
T. Baker left because (I think) he didn't like working with Matthew Waterhouse and the other cast members.
Davison left because of fear of typecast.
C Baker was fired.
Sylvester McCoy left for reasons I don't know.
Paul McGann didn't really get much TV appearances.
Christopher Eccleston left because he didn't like the environment of the show.
David Tennant left because he was worried that he might never leave the show.
Matt Smith left because he thought it was time for a change.
Peter Capaldi is now leaving because he wasn't sure he'd be able to remain in the role at his best if he stayed too long.
McCoy left originally because the series was axed, then Fox revived it but wanted a new Doctor. Out of respect/completness they gave him a regeneration.
and for anyone interested, how did they get the parts?
William Hartnell.
Verity Lambert enjoyed his portrayals from Carry on films as tough soldiers that she thought suited the character of the Dr and suggested him. Initially Hartnell didn't think he was right for the part, but Lambert convinced him.
Patrick Troughton.
It was William Hartnell himself that recommended him as he felt Troughton was the only person he'd feel comfortable leaving the show in the hands of.
Jon Pertwee.
Won the producers over on auditions and often recounts his favourite memory of it.
Jon: How do I play the character?
Producers: Play him as Jon Pertwee.
Jon: Well who the hell's he?
Tom Baker.
Initially plans were made for an actor Hartnell's age (Ian Marter was cast to be the action hero) one of the producers (don't know who) saw Tom Baker in a Sinbad movie and requested he be put on the audition list. The producers whom had initially wanted an older man, were so taken away by Tom Baker's huge presence and strange demeanour that they felt he already felt like an alien and would be perfect for the part.
Peter Davison.
John Nathan Turner had worked with him before and wanted him for the part from the moment he became producer. Taking advantage of Tom Baker's deliberating, he contacted him. Davison didn't think he was right for the part, but when it occurred to him that no one would believe him if he boasted about being asked first, he accepted.
Colin Baker.
Smoothest casting ever. It reads like a play.
Nathan Turner: Would you like to play commander Maxil?
Colin: I would, but it's a shame it means I'll never be the Dr.
Nathan Turner: Why do you say that?
Colin: I thought there was a rule that guest actors could never later be the Dr. After all, no actor so far was in it before.
Nathan Turner: I never really thought about it like that.
1 or 2 years later.
BBC: Well we hate Dr Who and want to get rid of it, but for formalities sake, any ideas who should replace Peter Davison.
Nathan Turner: Hmmm well what about Colin Baker? He said he wanted to do it.
BBC: Yeah fine whatever, just cast him. We don't give a shit anymore.
Sylvester McCoy.
I don't really know much about this, I think he just won the audition.
Paul McGann.
The movie had the widest amount of auditions ever of which Peter Capaldi himself declined to audition because he didn't think the movie would be a success. Paul auditioned bald and the producers as Paul put it "freaked" and made him wear a cardboard box. Maybe it was the box that inspired them to cast him lol.
Christopher Eccleston.
He was a huge admirer of Russell T Davies and he liked the idea of starring in a show aimed at children, but was itself mature and treated the kids like adults. He contacted Russell and asked to audition.
David Tennant.
He was Russell's first choice for the 9th Dr. For reasons unknown however, he cast Christopher instead. It was clear early on that Chris might only do 1 series and so Russell told Tennant to stay in reserve. When Chris decided he did indeed only want to do 1, Tennant was then instantly cast.
Matt Smith.
The producers had wanted an older actor to play the 11th Dr and Moffat has Peter Capaldi in mind, but he was unavailable. They held auditions with emphasis on older actors, but Matt Smith auditioned on the first day and impressed the producers so much that they decided on him. The BBC disagreed, he was too young, no one had heard of him and they were thinking that with David Tennant leaving, the show might as well end as they felt it couldn't continue without him. Moffat and the other producers eventually managed to put the board members straight on all these things and convinced them to let it be tried.
Peter Capaldi.
Steven Moffat was determined to get him for the part and when realising he was now available, he had a private interview with him. Moffat had already made up his mind before the interview that he was going to offer him the part as he was an actor he had always wanted to see in that role.
Just to clarify a few of these.
Hartnell: Verity Lambert wanted him after seeing him in This Sporting Life.
Tom Baker: sent a letter to the BBC's head of serials and managed to blag the audition. Barry Letts (the only producer of the show at the time) went to see him in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad but had pretty much already made up his mind.
McCoy: JNT saw him in The Pied Piper at the National Theatre and thought he'd be worth a punt.
McGann: was NOT bald for his audition ( czcams.com/video/56h_JuBZ9_0/video.html ), he still had long hair after shooting The Hanging Gale with his brothers.
Eccleston: Declined the opportunity to audition for the TV movie (he felt he was too young and simply not suited). Eccleston had starred in The Second Coming for RTD. When he heard that RTD was making new Who he asked to be considered.
Tennant: had starred as Casanova for RTD and, as another life-long fan, seemed a perfect choice.
Smith: originally auditioned for the part of Watson in Sherlock. He was so under-prepared and yet so good and watchable (I believe he'd forgotten his glasses and kept crashing into things, but covered with great style) that Moffatt decided to reconsider his initial idea of casting an older Doctor.
cool, thanks for the additional info
Russell T Davies..........great writer.....and great imagination........Steven Moffatt.......none at all.......Peter Capaldi as the doctor............its exactly what it says on the tin........'as the doctor'.......the others before him WERE THE DOCTOR..........but yes, thanks for the info
jhibbitt1 and Jodie Whittaker: she did the best audition and had worked with Chris Chibnall before on Broadchurch
Mark Knight Stop giving Moffat a bad rap. He wrote "Blink", considered by most fans of the show to be the best episode in the revitalized era (including yours truly).
1. Too old
2. Had a time limit
3. Everyone else left
4. Disagreed with the show writing
5. Time limit
6. Show was refreshed
7. Fox wanted to give him a send off
8. Not given further stories
9. Clashed with superiors
10. Quit
11. He left
12. Wanted to move on
John hurts role was not open ended as we see him regenerate into Christopher eccleston at the end of the 50th anniversary
It was a nice way to tie everything up and get rid of any rumors
The audio series happens earlier in his timeline. It is quite literally the Doctor fighting the Time War. They've got a prequel series with Paul McGann coming out, and a series for Jacobi's "War Master".
He shouldn’t have even been there it should have been McGann
I find myself wishing all the NewWho Doctor stayed for one more year longer than they did.
kovic I feel like both Tennant and Smith had their run, but Eccleston and Capaldi deserve one more year
Antonio Dee Capaldi especially as he got hindered by many terrible scripts
Antonio Dee I know what you mean, but hell, I want one more tennant series
kovic Eccleston needed at least one more season, he only had one season which was sad
still wish capaldi did one more year. that was it. because while series 8 and 9 had it's great moments. series 10 was when moffat seemed to get 12 done to perfection.
8th wonder of the world I completley agree!
I agree. I could accept anyone but a female or Ginger Doctor!
Koba NO! NO MORE MOFFAT!
not with moffat. with chibnall
LucasThePirate Why "No more Moffat?" I mean Moffat has given us classic episodes like "Heaven Sent/Hell Bent", "World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls", "The Pilot", "Dark Water/Death in Heaven," "Extremis", "Listen", "Deep Breath", "The Magician's Apprentice/The Witches Familiar", "Last Christmas", "Husbands of River Song" and The Return of Doctor Mysterio" over Twelves tenure, most of which have been incredibly well received by both fans and critics alike.
And yet everyone is excited for the guy who gave us an an Orgasming Alien and a Cyberwoman in Torchwood, plus middling Doctor Who episodes like "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" and "Cold Blood/The Hungry Earth"
David Tennant is my favorite by far.
We could always have him come back. He is off running amok with Rose in a parallel universe after all. :D
tbh they could just make a spinoff about rose and ten in the parallel universe (with jackie and ~tony~) and id be happy
I've heard that McCoy only wanted to do 3 years, but producer John Nathan-Turner convinced him to stay on a 4th year. Sadly, due to the cancellation of the show, McCoy ended up only doing 3 years in the end anyway.
christopher brought the doctor to america, i will always love him for that, he should have stayed on
johnmonk66 He was...fantastic!
i honestly feel peter capaldi was forced out mainly due to the horrible comments people made about him and his doctor about being too old, not sexy and young enough etc the doctor who fandom over the last few years has got really nasty full of poison
Yeah, because they're all idiotic teenaged girls. The toxic people.
really? I thought that we as a fandom were our nastiest when smith took over. it seemed like more people were crueler to smith than capaldi.
animelovers000 people are to used to Matt and David that's why Peter is great nearly as great as Peter d
+Anti-HyperLink: And you know this, how?
Yeah... Pete's an amazing actor, he just wasn't given the right scripts to work with most of the time.
Great video! Didn't know that Toymaker fact about Hartnell's Doctor!
Thanks! I didn't know about the Toymaker fact either untill I started my research! Even now Doctor Who is still full of suprises be it from Classic or Nu Who!☺
Neither did I.
The Whoniverse what do you think about Jodie Wittaker as the 13th doctor!
Wow! That was brilliant! You must have put so much time into researching this! Love your videos!
Thank You Vargas Ross! I started planning this video about 2 weeks ago! Researching the Nu Who Doctor's wasn't too difficult but the classic era was a different story all together! ☺Thanks for watching the video! ☺
Remember to take a breath every now and again. Punctuation helps with this.....
I didn't have any issues. Actually listening helps with this.....
I have only watched the series starting from the 2005 episodes with Eccleston. Tennant and Eccleston are the ones I seriously didn't want to leave. They both were brilliant in their role.
So basically, Moffat wanted to crush our hearts and David Tennant said no.
Ashley Morrelli how
Ashley Morrelli What?
Peter Davison did not meet William Hartnell in the Five Doctors. Hartnell had passed away by then and the part was played by Richard Hurndall
Good video, very informative. Handy guide for those that don't know much about the show. However the Two Doctors was broadcast in 1985.
There have been only two tv shows in my sixty years that I can say affected me so deeply and emotionally that my perception of "myself/here" and "everywhere else" became sharply clear/blurred. Doctor Who is one show. The other was Firefly.
hhairball9 OMG another firefly fan!
pop pop pop pop....
Not flashy, very informative, not too long but not all squeezed into a short amount of time.
This is great, thanks. As someone who’s never seen Classic Who, I found this vid to be extremely interesting and useful.
Peter Davidson is David Tennants father in law. So much makes sense now.
Yes, and David Tennant's wife has appeared in Doctor Who.
I Love that David Married Peter's daughter, who played HIS daughter in "The Doctor's Daughter"
DAVISON
Collin Baker didn't actually refuse a regeneration, the BBC asked him to do Time and the Rani and regenerate at the end, but he asked to do the whole season. The BBC said they'll think about it and never called back.
Really wonderful video. Thanks for putting this together. :)
My pleasure Paul Doerwang! Glad to hear you enjoyed watching the video! ☺
Great information on what happened to the Doctors, and some great behind-the-scenes insights too. Thanks for putting this together. Great researching the facts and nice visual shots. It brought back some fond memories too!
Great video, despite how much I can tell you've editted the audio script as well as the audio quality.
You covered each Actor well and did your research thoroughly.
Well done, this was very well put together I absolutely loved it.
I really enjoyed this. It was fascinating hearing the reasons for each of the actors to leave the role of the Doctor. As for the narration, I think you did a remarkable job for someone so young. It is always easy to criticise a work of art, be it a painting or a play. But it is never quite so easy to actually produce a work of art.
So congratulations on this and on the number of 'likes'.
This was informative, and interesting. Yes, at times the narration paused in odd spots for a second, but everybody has to start somewhere, and it really wsn't bad. I'll enjoy the next videos in your lists even more. Seeing as how it's been 2 years since this, it will be fun to binge. I am interested in how you improve, and how quickly! Honestly, this video was full of great stuff, and you have a relaxing voice.
I think previous Doctors and previous actors have said you should leave a part while you're still enjoying it. I think the same has been said about things like James Bond too, so it's a well established rule.
I really want James Bond to become female, after all "M" was much more popular female
RavenThom That would DESTROY the story, it not as flexible as Doctor Who.
RavenThom ah but bond isn't an alien sooo it doesn't really work
I mean, there is no Bond chronlogy. They could just do the same thing they've ever done and recast the character with no explanation.
I don't think it would fit, really, but I'm all for it. Bond's becoming too stale..
I love this video. you truly deserve so many more subscribers.
The research done and the video itself must have taken ages
OMG! Matt had been offered the chance to stay for another year? damnit matt! I love u man, and I totally get why u left if u wanted to do other things, but it would have been great if he stayed. (and this is coming from someone who loves capaldi) yet matt's time on the show felt so unresolved. with Tennant, whether u love him or he's not ur fav, one thing that can be agreed on is that his ending had been led up to (almost dragged out, and he had no official companion), but with smith, it just felt too sudden, he had just gotten clara, etc.
Brilliant video! Very informative! Subscribed!
Loved this video man, really informative!
VS07 Reviews Thank You so much! I love your videos btw! ☺
you shouldnt read off your script in one take
say a line and if you mess it up cut it and say it again
easy
maybe stressful at times but cleans up your video a bit
otherwise good video and cool facts
Thanks for the advice. And for watching the video.
The Whoniverse I echo that. You have a wonderful voice, but try some things: shorter sentences and paragraphs may help. Also, in rehearsal, exaggerate your inflections and vocal tones (think Tom Baker or Brian Blessed), then just dial it back a little. Do short takes of a paragraph at a time... You're doing well, and when you manage to unlock that small thing that's blocking you, you will SOAR and feel even better about these vids than you thought possible. Keep on keeping on!
Jpof Gwynedd Thanks! Very helpful advice! My next video will have narration which is a lot better! I hope you'll be watching! Thanks for the help and the constructive feedback!☺☺☺
Great effort, Im sure you will only get better, keep it up!
When watching this I did start off by feeling like the narration was drab. That maybe I would just close the video. However honestly, I kept with it and was really enjoying the content. Thanks for making the video and having it be so fun and informational. Your narration will improve (or maybe has already) in time. Keep up the interesting videos. Happy New Year!
Informative.....a few obscure reunion episodes I didn't know about. Yeah...narration is difficult at times. You have a natural feel for it. You do have to do different takes and edit them together. All my takes always end with a lot of swearing....so you have to edit that!! :) Also.....ever notice how early 70s Genesis shows FEEL like the Pertwee Dr. Who at the time? always cracks me up
Not everyone can be a great narrator but the amount of time, effort & research that must have been involved in the creation of this video must have been immense and it shows! Well done.
I would have probably left after 10 seconds if, instead, you had used a computer generated voice.
i still watch the 10th doctors episodes because thats when i got in to the show doctor who and started watching it
Capaldi is my favourite
Shame eccleston left.
He could've done a crossover with 13
With so many actors playing a part it is good that no one ever was typecast such as the american actor Adam West was. When ever I saw him on another show you would say hey that's Batman! He did some some episodes later but was either as himself or voice work in cartoons. RIP old friend!
Rly great video!! I like what you said about mcgann, he never did acc quit!
Hugely enjoyable vid. Well done.
I feel really sorry for Peter Capaldi and Colin Baker. Both of them were great Doctors that were screwed over by poor scripts and both were forced out of the role despite initially wanting to stay for a long time. At least they were eventually able to do Colin's Doctor justice in the audio dramas. Hopefully one day Capaldi's Doctor will also receive the treatment that he deserves.
John Hurt regenerated in "Day of the Doctor" when they departed.
colin Baker suffered from BBC interrferance. the show was moved out of it's time shot that it had held for decades when rating dropped, they blamed the actor. david Tennent said he loved dr who but had to walk away when he did or he would 'be doing dr who until i was in my bath chair'
the audios are so much better than the show, always a pleasure to hear them
I think your channel has still got a way to go, but from what I got from this video it’s just going to get better :) because of your awesome potential you just gained a subscriber :D enjoy!
Thank you! I'm always aiming to make this channel the best I can and always improve on the content I make. Thanks for your support :)
Actually Paul Mcgann was the longest running actor to play the doctor.
Tom Baker was the longest on screen, however Paul Mcgann had many episodes done through audio books up until 2005 when the show was remade.
Awesome video ❤
Great video! Well done indeed.
Had the series not been axed in 1989, I wonder how long Richard Griffiths (assuming the rumours of him taking over from McCoy at the end of the proposed season 27 were true) would have done and what his reasons for leaving would have been (the 'What if Doctor Who Wasn't Axed' series is just one bit of speculation and didn't go into the reasons why Griffiths would have departed).
There was another short Dr. Who production, perhaps it was a Christmas special. It featured all of the old series doctors who were still alive. Many of the old series companions were featured as well.
sounds like that is dimension in time it a charity 2 mini episode speciala for children in need it was to celebrate 30 years of the show
How is it that with all the audio dramas that crossover multiple Doctors, especially with the 10th Doctor comebacks, that we have not gotten an audio that crosses over the 'old' and 'new' Doctors? Especially the 4th and 10th Doctors!?
fantastic homage to the Doctors. Great video. the books filled the gaps well.
VERY interesting! Thanks for making it! I would have liked to have a couple more seasons with Tennant, MY Doctor...but to be honest, I wish Matt had pulled a Tom Baker. Much as I like Capaldi now, I miss Matt still. He was the perfect personification of the Doctor to me. In fact, sometimes I think he actually IS the Doctor, come to Earth, tired of his space adventures (or doing them when we're not looking) and enjoying be an actor for a while. LOL!
Now I know the order of the actors who played the doctor but just one question I have, where does John Hurt, aka, The War Doctor, fit into the series of reverberations? I know he came before David Tenant and Matt Smith according to what the story writers or script writers wrote into his story but he was never listed as an actor who played the doctor. Can you clear up my confusion?
It's regenerations, but Hurt goes between McGann and Ecclestone

John Hurt dying is probably the saddest of recent celebrity deaths, because I didn't see it all over the internet. It really Hurt.
I think 'The Two Doctors' was 1985 not 1986
There actually was a bit more to Patrick Troughton's departure from the show. Both him and Frazer Hines, the actor who played Jamie (who still holds the record for the Doctor's longest serving companion on the TV series) had fallen in love with their roles and were up for staying on the show longer. In the end, it was their agents who talked both of them into moving on to other things.
The amusing thing is even though an actor "retires" from the role, they're still part of the character or at least their version of the Doctor.
It would be an interesting twist if a former actor who played the Doctor to return to a new incarnation at some point (maybe one day actually have a season planed out just for this to happen) this could have happened since Jon Pertwee (from what I read years ago) expressed a desire to return to the show during the early 90s
great video. loved the info. Jon Pertwee not John Pertwee.
I just wanted to let you know keep it up
SleekMetal I
Season 26 when McCoy's television run ended mate. Do you not read programme guides??
I did not see any mention of the Peter Cushings Doctor. The Movie Doctor Who and the Daleks was my First intro to Doctor Who as a child I watched it in the early 70's on Creature Feature..
its been fantastic... nothing wrong with the commentary really interesting..
I'd like to see some fan made animations for these audio stories.
Do not listen to the criticism of the comment section you voice is great 👍
I know it can get really busy and you can get typecast but I would personally stick around 20yrs
I must have missed why Capaldi left. Can someone tell me please?
i thought colin baker asked to return for a final episode and regeneration but the BBC said no
Other way around. As stated elsewhere in this thread, that was something that JNT managed to secure, which Colin rejected. Despite a couple of regeneration scenarios in prose, I was glad that Big Finish came up with a bit of an epic final audio story for Ol' Sixie.
He was sacked or fired from the role after his second full season. The BBC allowed him to come back to do one last story, but Baker wanted to do a full season. The BBC said one story or nothing. Baker said one season or nothing. Next we see Sylvester McCoy doing a regeneration scene with a blonde wig.
rumblebars Wait, no one actually saw Six regenerate?
Well, not the actor, the character was there. As everyone said it was Sylvester McCoy in a wig. It would almost work like he was halfway between Six and Seven at the time but the wig is just so cheap and clearly a wig it ruined the effect. Also, the reason for his regeneration (the Rani pulling the TARDIS out of time and space and landing it on the planet she was on, causing him to fall and 'hit his head') is really kind of lame.
Hurst started regeneration at the end of the 50th anniversary episode "of course makes sence, wearing a bit thin. Hope the ears are less conspicueouse" Last Words he said as he regenerated👽
I really wish at the end of the 50th anniversary we could of saw the 9th doctor
When the whoniverse said there will never be a longer serving doctor than tom baker I thought to myself challenge accepted
I really would've thought Capaldi would've stayed for at least one more season. We can only hope that when Jodie Whittaker announces she will leave, maybe the regeneration cycle would malfunction and she degenerates back to Capaldi for a season or two. I know that'll never happen, but one can only hope...
BionicNinja 123 Or better the cycle would break WAY back and becomes tennant again
Hey I never thought of that. This might actually be fantastic. Capaldi is my most favourite after Patrick Troughton
Please no
That's a good idea but it will go to tennant or smith more likely.
Ceca Siahaan Tennant was awesome
can't wait til Christmas
Great video
I wonder if the Doctor will ever regenerate into a previous form. That'd certainly be interesting.
I didn't know that john hurt died, i am so sad, he was a wonderful doctor, RIP John Hurt.
Good video!
I hope Matt will return as the Doctor some time in the future
Too bad about eccleston. I loved him! I thought he was a great doctor. He is my second favorite a close second to tennant. I would love to see him come back/ it would have been cool to see him with other companions. For companions I didn’t like very much the ponds Clara and more I often think about if I would have liked them better with other doctors and how they would have “vibed” with eccleston or tennant for example . For example I live Donna noble. But I don’t think she would have worked with eccleston . In a bother universe ;)
I was actually JUST wondering this..
Im gonna be thirteen when the thirteenth doctor comes...
It is a well known story that colin baker didn't walk away he was in fact fired.
You forget to add: the mystery of what would have been with McGann and his series if in a alternate universe. Did his series would have been picked up by FOX in 1996. It would have aired Friday Nights next to the X-Files. In a Doctor Who Magazine interview which is a last minute contradiction. McGann stated the if the 96 series was picked up. He had no intentions of returning and reprising his role as the 8th Doctor BUT in a CZcams Interview with Gallifrey Times. McGann talked of wandering around British Columbia looking for a house and school for his family during filming of the 96 TV movie.
Eccleston being "private" is because RTD wanted him to portray the 9th Doctor the way RTD wants and Eccleston as a artist wanted to create his own character. As a result he just flat out only did one Series and never want to talk about it as RTD is his friend and avoid insulting him.
Also regarding to all the 26 Season exits. Colin Baker planned to stay as the longest running Doctor and wanted to dethrone Tom Baker's record. But thanks to Eric Saward's lack luster effort for the 6th Doctor and Michael Grade's slimed effort in hurting Colin's career as he is shagging Baker's ex and want to kill Who as it is considered a "waste of time and money" Colin's plan and career died with only 2.1 season.
If a Season 27 was to have happened and the Cartmel Masterplan was going full power and JNT was resigning. Season 27 would have been McCoy's final as he would have already considered leaving during the 1989 season. But with that being halted and Grade finally made his ambitious plan come true.the 7th Doctor and Ace legacy lived on till 1996!!!!
Whatever happened to The Rani?
I love how the Tardis always freaks out about the Doctor crossing his own time stream except for when it's time for one of those specials.
Good video but there is no John Hurt.
Thank you for stating the facts!!!!
The Matt Smith era was truly a arc that was never properly finished and was rushed with the Christmas Swan song!!!!!
Had Moffat took it much more serious in story telling and finish one arc before going into another. Series 6-7 would not have been this convoluted mangle mess.
And if Smith had stayed for another year. The crack in the wall would have had a much better ending and Tranzalore Battle would have been much more a dramatic legacy then the 95 minutes short trip joke!
All in all Smith was never a favorite Doctor of mine because of the missed plans that could have been.
Some of the fans have considered the junk that came out between 2011-2013 as the best since the Letts/Hinchecliff era and all the RTD season between 2005-2009 are amateur rubbish.
Well I personally think 2010-2013 was the best era of the show so I guess I have shit taste lol
daivid tennant was the saddest
I do like the idea of a season where the doctor had to deal with the fact he is regenerating all season long
So he was gonna originally be with Amy and Rory as Ten? :(
Tom baker and David tenant and john pertwee are long reigning doctors
Depends on how you count... McCoy and McGann were each the 'current' Doctor for a long time, due to the show being in limbo without them being replaced for years.
But in terms of active reign, yeah. Scarf-guy, Sandshoes, and the Dandy win. :)
Write a script, go through a "soft recording" that you don't use to see where your biggest narration flaws lie. When recording make sure you don't get to close to the mic and take a long pause after each sentence, this will make it easier to edit and won't make it feel as rushed. This is informative, but I feel that you need to work on your reading aloud more.
A good video pal
Was only supposed regenerate 12 times. When you add in John Hurt and Tennant's use on the hand then the doctor was at the end of his cycle when the time lords reset him. So as of now does anyone know how many there are? I'm sure if the show survives the writers will find a way to continue. Also River is a human born on the TARDIS that absorbed time energy. Not sure if it was stated otherwise... thoughts
If he got a new regeneration cycle that's 12 more regenerations, 10 now with Capaldi and Whittaker. But they could always give the Doctor more.
