    Honestly, I used Photoshop for a long time and struggled to get good results. Pixinsight changed that just by following along with some basic tutorials. It does look intimidating, but it actually isn't. I don't want to say pixinsight is easy, but it's easier than Photoshop to me.

    Thanks so much for doing this video. I am new to PixInsight and this was super helpful. Great job. I shoot with a OSC camera (sometimes with an L-Extreme filter for nebulas) and would love to see a tutorial on processing narrowband OSC with PixInsight . Once again, great tutorial. Kyle, am I wrong in noticing that the processes you've chosen seem to vary from those "most" other Pixinsight tutorials emphasize? Usually, we're directed to either Photometric Color Calibration or manual Color Calibration to fix the off colors or to bring out missing colors in our images. But you use the RGB Split>Linear Fit>Channel Combination, the ArcSinStretch (to increase contrast), and the very interesting Extract CIE L>LRGB Combination. Interestingly, when I compared the overall color of my recent M31 project using the "standard" PCC processes with your workflow, your processes actually yielded more color, especially in the dust lanes of M31. Can you explain why this is so? Thanks for your work and for any clarification.

    Great Job, much appreciated! In the Step regarding EZ denoise the chosen (DBE) image isn't linear, therefore the script will not Execute. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to convert it to linear, and if so; how? Edit: found that I needed to select something else in the second tab, after that I could use it. Subsequently it crashed my computer (The dreaded BSOD) and after reboot the EZ suite never came back in Pixinsight. I think I'll leave it at that and sort the denoising out a different way ;-)

    • @highpointscientific
      @highpointscientific Před 2 lety +1

      Let us know if you can't figure it out! If you don't like EZ Denoise, we'd recommend trying multiscale linear transform before turning the image non-linear.

    Hello Kyle, quick question about the 2nd image. When you did the LinearFitat 26.30 why did you choose the green channel as a reference although the image looked yellowish/brownish? I saw others use automatic background extraction to remove the overall image tint resulting from filters. What do you think?

    • @highpointscientific
      @highpointscientific Před rokem

      Good question. I used the green channel because I saw that the background had a high green tint. SCNR can also knock out the green too. - Kyle

    • @magedsyehia
      @magedsyehia Před rokem

      @@highpointscientific So will using automatic background extraction give the same result? what about other images those don't have green tint? like for example I have a stacked image of m42 which has light brown tint what method should I do to deal with the color?
      Many thanks to you!

    Great video for someone new to processing. So far so good. But when I get to Step 12 of the PDF using the Screen Transfer Function tool and the Histogram Transformation tool, dragging the arrow from the SCT to the Histogram Transformation does not open the Histogram to be applied. Nothing happens. I drag the arrow as you do but nothing appears in the window. What am I doing wrong?

    • @highpointscientific
      @highpointscientific Před 2 lety

      Good question. Make sure you've selected the image you wish to be stretched in the drop down menu & drag the arrow to the bottom of the HistogramTransform tool. You'll know your image has been successfully stretched when you see the histogram transform. If this doesn't work, try using EZProcessingSuite's EZ Soft Stretch tool. That should do the job nicely.

    • @robertmyers4964

    Hi, I'm really enjoying this tutorial. I'm very new to PI and running into an error with DBE: "DynamicBackgroundExtraction: Cannot execute instance on view: Image05 Reason: This DynamicBackgroundExtraction instance has less than three background samples defined." I'm working on an unedited TIFF exported from Lightroom Classic. I've re-started the process 3 times now and every time I get this error. Ideas?

    So, why do we stack in Deep Sky Stacker (a Windows only tool) instead of doing that in PixInsight as well? It's got that capability, right?

    • @highpointscientific
      @highpointscientific Před rokem

      That is correct! You can stack in PixInsight. DeepSkyStacker is just a little more user friendly for a beginner, in our opinion.
