    Starting off with a short prologue where you play as Orks and Chaos, sabotaging them right under their nose to make the reconquest of Lorn V and recovery of the Titan much easier, was such a great idea and really helped improve the video. Love seeing a video like this, because I spent ages in the first Dawn of War trying to save as many Guardsmen as possible. If I recall rightly, it was an spaceport defence mission where you found Guard squads with Chimeras holding the line. You couldn't control these units but they were the first sign of the Imperial Guard before Winter Assault added them in full, and if you saved them they'd dig in and help you hold back waves of Orks I believe. I don't recall them being in many missions, however.

    The sturnn canon bit only means it confirmed that he Heroically lead the guardsmen, and their objective was to retrieve the titan. That confirms he existed and that he went to war on the planet in the same measure- Also, that he either got new duds or he died, since he doesn't have that equipment your later holding.
    We know that at minimum, Gorgutz gets banished into Dawn of war: Dark crusade, meaning he has to, at minimum, be in a position to flee the system, as he shows up later thrice more.

    • @Saint_Jam
      @Saint_Jam  Před 4 měsíci +98

      Ahh you see that's the beauty of that item. The more you read it, it becomes more ambiguous. I believe when the author wrote that, the intention behind it was to succinctly explain that Sturnn recovered the Titan. When I showed that exact quote to a few people, when they read it; they interpreted it as he succeeded. However when they read it a few times again it seems that the quote implies that he just merely existed and attempted to recover the Titan.
      I would argue, the 'letter of the law' is a ambiguous. I believe that the 'spirit of the law', is to succinctly state the Guard victory. I believe it's up to interpretation however there is plenty of evidence from those 3 books to explain either the Eldar wone, or the Guard won. But I would claim for the developers to include that armour, and it unceremoniously state the Guard won, is VERY in line with how they handled the Orks being the canon victors of Soulstorm.

      To be fair, the only straight up difference between the Eldar and IG endings is that the Eldar ending has the Titan more severely damaged and some more Guardsmen dying. For all intents and purposes, the Order campaign is canonical, otherwise Sturnn and Taldeer would both need to be dead as per the third and fourth scenarios of the Disorder campaign, respectively.
      It is possible that the damage done to the Titan in the Eldar outcome wasn't as severe. I mean, hell, the Orks in their ending actively try to destroy the damn thing to piss off the Chaos gits, and the Necrons also rampage across it after them, and neither of these two events are sufficient to cause it to go nuclear. And I'm not sure the Eldar would need to commandeer the thing to such a degree that the explosion would damage it more than what the Orks and Nekrons were doing in that route. It is possible for IG to have recovered the Titan after that, just somewhat worse for wear. So the Titan being recovered might also not be an indication, similar to Taldeer's survival.
      IG actually recovering the Titan and Taldeer being alive are two events that could in theory occur in either of the endings. There is also some other possibilities, like a true ending being a combination of the two. In the Disorder route fourth scenario, you lose if either of the Eldar or IG objectives are completed, and they both end up completed in the scenario at basically the same time. It is possible the outcome is not fully or adequately represented within the campaign design.
      I do think the intent is for the Eldar to have won, as it more readily shows Taldeer's survival, with IG eventually reclaiming the Titan post-kaboom. But I don't think it changes things too much. For the purposes of this sort of playthrough, I think having the IG ending as canonical isn't overtly bad.

Goes to show how much attention to detail you give to the challenge you undertake. Your masterful use of the mechanized units really showed how the Emperor protects. I hope to see you try the same challenge with other factions in Dawn of war. I would really like to see how the human spirit blooms even in the forces of chaos.

In WA, it changes the armor type from vehicle to infantry, and that would mean your lasguns tear it apart in mere moments.

    I like to imagine in regards to canon as far as Soulstorm is concerned Chapter Master Kyras sent the fated company led by Boraele to die, an inexperienced commander, in a field of battle where their main tactic is easily countered to send shockwaves through the morale of the chapter while remnants of the company join up with the IG and sisters of battle who despite attempts from the Alpha Legion (Who I am convinced are actually just Black Legion who grabbed the wrong banner) try to trick the loyal imperium forces into combat with one another are able to reclaim the sector for the imperium! Just a little head canon of mine...

  • @georgem7276
    @georgem7276 Před 4 měsíci +3

    Hate to say it, even as a big IG fan, but its still likely the Eldar to who won the Canon ending. The armor only says he heroically lead them to recover the Titan, not that he actually recovered it; I can see how reading that might imply he did, but still not definitive. Also that armor description could easily be Imperial propaganda, not the first time Imperium rewrites the story to suit their narrative. If I remember right there are also statements by Gorgutz and others that suggest Talder won at Lorn V. Regardless it makes for better fun when you don't know.

  • @CartmanTuttle
    @CartmanTuttle Před 4 měsíci +7

    Love the ThunderPsyker reference towards the end, there. Granted, I don't know how old Sturnn was, or even what year this event took place within the canon, but there's a chance Sturnn died of old age. That's an incredible feat for an Imperial Guard General who's constantly on the front.

    • @Litany_of_Fury
      @Litany_of_Fury Před 4 měsíci +4

      Successful Generals get anti aging technology. Yet Sturnn is lacking them and is already old. Logically, Sturnn made General by merit which is not uncommon for Cadia, but also means he didn't come from a privileged background to afford him greater technology. He led the men from the front and liked to get stuck in. This is a train not befitting of becoming anything above a General.

    When a planet is taken by human forces, the Imperium often grants the conquering leader the heritable title of planetary governorship (be they an officer of the Astra Militarum, a rogue trader, etc). Between the refugees and the years-long restoration of the holy titan, I think it's pretty likely that the old man spent the rest of his life on Lorn V as Lord Governor Sturrn where he demonstrated the same dedication and humanitarian focus for rebuilding as he did in war during the winter campaign. Perhaps we see Sturrn's old outfit in DoW2 because after he took on the mantle of imperial governor -the space magpies stole his old threads- it was gifted to the Blood Ravens whom his new civilian subjects owe their lives.

    Tribe, not Clan. You can't wipe out a Clan. Clans are like... eye colour to an Ork, sort of. Every Ork is part of a Clan seemingly at random. Tribes are made up of Orks who have banded together, sometimes on a Clan basis - but are often a mix of Clans.
    So unless every Ork in the Galaxy and all their fungus spores are destroyed...
