In recent history, Dutch politics has been measured and moderate. Pim Fortuyn has changed that: a former sociology professor, he now pushes his right-wing populist agenda. The media loves him - an interview tends to guarantee an outrageous headline. Branding Islam a 'backward religion' and fighting against immigration, his party is backed for 15-20% of the vote - a sizeable amount.

Bright and brave! His eyes were wide open. He broke the stereotype that being gay means left and weak.
So sad he is no longer with us

WTF you name him a populist??? He was a visionair and a REALIST!!
They're good at that, labeling.
He was called a populist by the establishment. In retrospect we can see clearly what the media and the politicians did to him. And these tactics are still applied to the newcomers.
The things he said that were labeled as 'extreme' (of course always quoted out of the context) are nowadays put forward by politicians of main stream parties.
"The Dutch could loose their reputation of tolerance ..."
A tolerant society needs to be protected against intolerant ideologies. Pim Fortuyn stood for that.
He forced all political parties to face up to the issues that they had preferred to conveniently ignore.
Ik had het niet beter kunnen schrijven! The crazy thing is, its much worse now. I moved to Germany 4 years ago, we currently have a shitstorm going. I see many parallels from when I used to live in the Netherlands when it comes to the politics of today's Germany..
It was a sad day for Holland..
It was effectively a political murder. So sad

Bet the Dutch wish they still had this guy.
Yes we do.... I miss this guy!
only the racist ones
@@ariacyberfairy2652 Well, with the rise of right-wing parties, won't be long before you're sent back where you belong. Enjoy your time in a civilized country while it lasts.
Yes, Yes we do.
@@ariacyberfairy2652 he was not a racist
One of the World's greatest
Calling him a populist is such a dismissive label.
What a great guy he was :( then he gets killed for wanting to protect his own people, Killed for questioning Islam..........
And killed... by one of his own people!
@@HeadhuntexGamer left is not my people.
@@CB-ur8zy Agree.

That was a political assassination.
Those who planned this crime wanted ignorant people like you to think that "it was their own people" that killed Pim Fortuyn for being a "fascist".
You can call it populist because it was somewhat simplistic. But to the average men this was and still is the most realistic and practical solution.
Beautiful person.
We will never see the like of Pim Fortuyn again......and that 's a pity !
Thierry Baudet
@@chevchelios2136 thierry and pim are 2 totally different people
@@gibbym3442 Is Thierry that bad? I'm not Dutch so I don't know.
May he rest in peace !!
Love how incredibly biased reporters can be, downright : "comfortable egomaniac." And the translation (subtitles) is terrible; very much painting him in a wrong picture, deliberate. This was an openly GAY politician seeing with a Moroccan boyfriend (in America that would be equivalent to someone running for president, openly Gay, with a Mexican boyfriend to put it in perspective.) He was a sociology professor, and she definitely hasn't done her research on what he stood for and professed.
The sad thing is that many people call him populist (opponents) or visionair (proponents), but the simple truth is that he was neither of those, and just proposed simple straight forward solutions that would benefit the common man. Instead of pulling up the facade that makes everything unnecessarily complicated to hide from the common man that there is no intention to do anything to benefit them, but that the big capital is served instead.
justice is on the rise all over the world. pim will not have died in vain.
ff voor de duidelijkheid Pim was geen racist !stop racisme! heeft niks met emigreren te maken!!!!!
Still missing him!
Our saviour.. The Netherlands are lost and doomed now :(
Vote Right
Nope.. the country is already dead.. liberals rule the nation 🥺
@@thefanuccicrimefamily lets give it a go. If Scandinavia can do it....we can as well.

@@thefanuccicrimefamily Dude....the VVD has not been truly right for ages now > see immigration and integration fuck up in this country.

And [remember, O Muḥammad], when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allāh plans. And Allāh is the best of planners.

This guy is so much better than Geert Wilders. And he is not comparable with Geert Wilders. Pim Fortuyn at least wanted to help to you so can you integrate better in The Netherlands. He even managed to make people have his back. But Geert is just only creating a hate folk.
But still geert better than left .. lol fvd leeft in 1600
They need to go.
Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Jean-Marie Lepen, Jörg Haider, and Pim Fortuyn are the bravest and most patriotic men in the world.
the first 4 will go to hell, pim fortuyn to heaven
