    How not to do it. Each cable should be connected to both batteries before the second cable connection is made. Same on removal. Never connect both cables to the same battery and leave or throw the unconnected ends on the ground risking a short circuit. Video edit showing the correct procedure suggested.

    We have a Chausson 510 which lives on our forecourt - was really handy to see where the + connection was - took me a while to spot it thanks Andrew

    Thanks for that Andrew, we have an Elddis Autoquest and I often wondered how to jump start it. Although we run it every week and have a good solar panel to keep both batteries topped up.
    Love your van also.
    All the best
    Duncan.

    Enjoy your trip. Probably just the alarm draining the battery along with the cold snap.

    This particular procedure has spiked many an FIAT airbag ECU. Mine was spiked when the battery was discharged whilst the MH was in storage. The ECU soldiered on for about a year whilst I reset it regularly with my ODB reader, then it gave up. The story gets worse.....the factory which manufacturers these ECU units also burned down aside from the global chip shortage, making these units in considerable short supply. I managed to get a replacement from Crashdata (one of only 200 units available in Europe in early 2022 so they told me) and fitted it. Which involves disassembling the central console unit to get at the ECU & making sure there is no residual electricity anywhere in the vehicle system (see the USS Forrestal story for details of static electricity & explosives 😮)
    BTW if you have to jump start your vehicle the lead acid battery is now pants because a discharge of past 25% or so has caused irreversible damage & it won't recharge fully.

      Thanks for the info, doesn't really matter now as we don't have the van anymore so don't have the problem anymore

    Don't wish to appear ungrateful for you taken the time to do your demo but you are not connecting the jump leads using the recommended safe methodology.
    "Jump starters" should .....
    First connect the +ve (red lead) to the working battery + ve then connect the other end of the red lead to the flat battery's +ve terminal. Then connect the black lead to the working battery's -ve terminal, finally connect the other end of the black lead to a suitable earth point on the vehicle with the flat battery avoiding the fuel system and the dead battery which could gas and spark. Stay safe!😉

      OK thanks for the info, it was not an instructional video, just a video to show where the points are on the fiat MH, I'm no expert & hopefully people find it informative even if I connected the leads wrong, thank you for watching & correcting my mistakes, I will take it on board next time I have to jump the engine (probably after this blooming tier system) happy New Year & Stay safe

  • @webbsmotorhomeadventures1231

    If you got solar panels wouldn’t it keep the battery charged ?

    • @andrew-karens-adventures
      @andrew-karens-adventures  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi David, yes it would keep batteries charged up, I was not going to pay the vastly inflated price the dealer was wanting to charge & they only wire it to the leisure battery circuit as Chausson advise, I have looked into it and found where I can run the wires to leisure battery and vehicle battery with a split charger so it will be on the list of to do jobs when funds allow 👍😁
