I keep dogs for companionship and protection. I have horses because I train them and teach people to ride. I have cats and birds. Cats keep water moccasin snakes out of my barn. I am truly hurt whenever another muslim brother or sister looks at me with disgust every time I say that.. they always say its "haraam" but every time i ask them why, they cant explain why. "Its just what they we're told to" and yes, i may have transgressed the teachings but, it hurts me to see my brothers and sisters in islam treat these animals with so much hate, and disgust and what not... how about the very basic principle of being kind to animals?

BIGBOSSWHATITDO420 That is a bad argument. Allah created pigs...we can’t eat them. Dogs prevent angels from coming to the home, they do give off a small smell, drop saliva around, hump people’s legs (yes I’ve looked after dogs before), and they prevent angels from coming to the home... so this is why I understand they are forbidden. Remember, Allah will send a prostitute to heaven because she gave water to a thirsty dog. This story tells us we should be caring to them, but that doesn’t mean we should keep them in the home.

Racks_rc how shallow is your understanding brother. Every great Imams have their own ways of getting "the Law" out of the al-Quran and Hadis (istinbat). Different Imam used different methods and the people who follow any one of the methods will introduce themselves as the followers of the Imam ways. That's why there are 4 Mazhabs in Sunni fiqh. That's just in fiqh. Not aqeedah or tasawwuf.

@@islamonlysolution461 very well....do you agree dogs just like other animals are God's creatures that have have needs and feelings like we do ? You said....keep them away from the house. You do realize there are all types of dogs right ? From very tiny to very big dogs. Now you since you suggested to keep dogs away from home, I have a question for you.....away from home means, on the streets. So I assume as a good Muslim that you must be or anyone reading here. When was the last time, you carry food and water for a thirsty hungry dog ? It is our responsibility to care for God's creatures correct? Any reader here of my comment? What is your solution for tiny and big dogs on the streets, who die of hunger and thirst on the streets ? Or worse yet, poisoned by suppose muslims in muslim countries? Are we just going to hide behind our comfortable homes doing our prayers, so God can forgive our daily sins ? Don't you think a BIG sin is neglecting God's creatures ? Think again ? And if u are going to keep one outside as a guard dog, make sure you understand the circumstances of weather outside your home. It is your obligation, the dog has clean water and food at all times and a shelter which is heated in winter and air conditioned in summer. Your restrictions to not want a dog inside the home, doesn't forbid you to REALLY CARE for the poor animal that better not be chained all alone outside. And I am sure Allah wouldn't mind if you pet it that dig and played with him. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO, IS CLEAN YOURSELF OR COMPLETELY SHOWER. IS THAT SIMPLE.

They have this wierd thing with especially dogs, where they avoid touching it, are scared of it and consider it a filthy animal. You see it here in the Netherlands, youth from Morocco really do not like dogs. Now that my dog is gone, my father misses it a lot actually. I think people should really understand Islam and use their brains and reach to a conclusion. That's why Allah swt gave you brain. Don't follow others just because others are saying like this and like that, use your brain. Understand Islam and think by yourself.
Anyway I love dogs and like to keep one. I believe they are loyal and faithful companion. in fact a dog is better than most of the fake people out there.
And I don't deny the fact that, dogs are not clean. I think their saliva and wet part aren't clean, and one should purify themselves from it, if came in contact. But I believe there no problem in keeping a dog, if it's cleaned and groomed properly.

And in the case of animals, we dont have to condemn and be unkind to dogs. They are Allah's creation too. Its just because the angels that came down to earth to send Allah's message to Prophet Muhammad did not like the dog being inside the house since it is dirty with how you know dogs usually leave their tongue out and the saliva comes out...Its considered unhygienic and Angels are clean pure creations of God. So they prefer not having to deal with them. Thats why Prophet Muhammad decide to keep dogs out side the house. But he still gave a good example and taught us, his followers, to treat all animals kindly. I will folloe his example, and even if I may not be able to touch dogs freely because of the stigmatism that comes with being a muslim and No-Touching-Dogs-concept strong around me, I will always be kind to all of Allah's creations when they are in trouble, that including dogs. ❤

The blessed Prophet (Peace be on him) asked us to be kind to all animals. The order to kill animals is relevant only when humans are being attacked by a wild animal or when they are a threat (such as dogs with rabies). The only thing to be kept in mind is generally dogs are impure and do not have the same hygiene levels like a cat. So we just have to make sure dogs are not allowed inside the house. Otherwise there is no harm to have dogs around the house and neighborhood. We need to ensure that they are not petted and treated like humans. Dogs live in packs in traditional non-urban neighbourhoods and that's the way they should be. Cats on the other hand are clean dignified animals who can and prefer to look after themselves. So there is no harm in having them indoors. Otherwise there is no difference in the way we should treat them. The point is animals, even when domesticated should not be treated in the way how we treat fellow humans! Being kind to all animals and having empathy towards nature and the environment and Allah's entire creation is what is expected in Islam.

I personally don’t agree that dog are unclean, in surah maida Allah says that whatever your trained animals catch is halal for you to eat, the prophet said in sahih Hadith when you release your dog say bismilla, then you can eat whatever he catches, so if a dogs saliva was impure why is it halal to eat the food they catch with there mouths?

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: Allah's Apostle ordered that the dogs should be killed. (Sahih Bukhari, vol. 4, #540)
Ibn Mughaffal reported: Allah's messenger ordered the killing of dogs and then said, "what is the trouble with them (the people of Medina? How dogs are nuisances to them (the citizens of Medina)? He then permitted keeping of dogs for hunting and (the protection of) herds. ...[and for] for the protection of cultivated land. (Sahih Muslim, 3814)
Abu Zubair heard Jabir Abdullah saying: Allah's messenger ordered us to kill dogs and we carried out this order so much so that we also killed the dog roaming with a women from the desert. Then Allah's apostle forbade their killing. He said: "It is your duty to kill the jet-black (dog) having two spots (on the eyes) for it is a devil. (Sahih Muslim 3813).
...He [Gabriel] said: Yes, but we [angels] do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture. Then on that very morning he [Muhammad] commanded the killing of the dogs until he announced that the dog kept for the orchards should also be killed, but he spared the dog meant for the protection of extensive fields (or big gardens). Well if we think about it, it makes sense that the order to kill the dogs was because there was a problem with the dogs at a particular time such as disease, when the prophet entered Medina he gave the order to kill all dogs except for hunting, guarding dogs, shepherds dogs. Later on he forbade the killing of all dogs except the pure black dog with two white spots, the prophet also told two stories, one of a prostitute who saw a thirsty dog by a well and she used her scarf and shoe to draw water out of the well, another time a man gave water to a dog who was licking mud out of thirst and Allah forgave both of them and put them in paradise because of there kindness to the dog. So here we have the prophet saying to kill all dogs but then again he is telling us to be good to them, there’s a contradiction here, it seems there was a context behind the order to kill all dogs, also he later forbade killing all dogs except the pure black one with two white spots, so why would he order them all to be killed then later on order for them not to be killed. Also in the Quran Allah said whatever they catch for you is halal to eat, in other hadiths the prophet said when you release your dog say bismillah (in the name of God) then what they catch for you eat. So if all dogs were impure or there saliva is impure why can we eat the food they catch with there mouth?, I’m not a scholar, just trying to think logically.

And we turned them to the right and to the left, while their dog stretched his forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked at them, you would have turned from them in flight and been filled by them with terror.” (Quran 18:17-18)
Which talks about how a child was protected by a dog that was guarding the cave entrance . The other verse that “kind” of implied toward it being a dog, doesn’t even mention that it was a dog, but just a smart “creature” in general. It always baffles me, on why our prophet just out of the blue says “dog is prohibited” , and if you think I’m an evil person for even daring to disagree with our prophet, then what say you of those imams that says dog are allowed to be kept as a pet? Because remember, Hanafi and Maliki is the two most followed teaching by the entire muslims in the world, so does that mean that all of the people that follow those two imams, goes to hell, because they doesn’t have any good deeds (Thawab) left since they keep dog as pet?
This kind of dilemma is especially bad, when you live in a country where people follow madhab Shafi’i , and will legit straight up CURSE and condemn you to destine in jahannam , whenever you do something slightly off and not in-line with their understandings. Like the muslims in Malaysia have a REALLY bad sense superiority complex, especially when people kept predicting that Imam Mahdi’s black flagged soldiers would stem from South East Asian, so basically Malaysian and Indonesian, but unlike Indonesian, muslim in Malaysia feel like they have the justification of condemning other muslims left right and centre whenever they see a different form of practices, teachings or understandings
