Between Wall of Fire, Counterspell and Fireball, this episode was really a great reminder at how fricking terrifying a well trained wizard can be. Especially one specializing in pyromancy.

@@crazyinsider9615 And the best part is that it wasn't just a regular loss of levels where you just come back the same as before. He was broken then remade himself. Then in his growth with the Mighty Nein he became justified in that change and grew far more powerful than he ever would have under Trent.
@@matthewschwer6048 - Enough to know how long he could go toe-to-toe with Trent. More to the point, he's beginning to see Trent's limits. Something inconceivable to him at the outset of the campaign. Campaign 2 was only a third way through when it ended IMO.
Those spell designs are seriously so good! Stomping the ground to Thunderstep? Slicing to Counterspell? So very fitting.
Ugh. So good. Beau reaching for jester, the design of dimension door, yasha throwing Nott, Nott jumping on Cad’s sheild, the fire reflected in Nott’s eyes as she realizes what it’s gonna do to Caleb, caleb’s eyes through the wisps of counterspell, the EFFORT you drew into Fjord’s kick for thunderstep??? Beautiful
The whole thing was amazing, but that thunderstep was amazing, I'm going to use that lol
Spell designs were amazing. Also: Caleb seeing the two in the fire was... *chef kiss* Perfection. Gave me goosebumps!

Sometimes just watching the live stream or listening its hard to put everything into perspective but this gave me chills and reminded just how bad ass caleb really is. Can you imagine how terrifying this man would be without PTSD? If he actually became a scourger for the empire? No regret. No remorse. Just power...
We can see a bit of that man on the episode they break into the sanatorium

As others have said the spell design is what makes this amazing, but i also wish to give you praise for the expressions on their faces adds alot of drama to the whole thing well done!
In spite of this event not being the cleanest win for the Nein, this animatic shows all the best aspects. Plus the designs on each spell were fantastic. Next seeing Nott, the Brave really earning her comma was wonderful. Then again, I'm biased, seeing Nott being everything she thought she wasn't(Brave, smart, beautiful, strong) makes me so very happy knowing where that character growth will eventually lead her. Lastly, Caleb being Caleb was entirely on point.
Again, I just LOVE how you draw Caleb's spellcasting!

Okay something about Beau and Jesters faces when they dimension door just gives me goosebumps
holy shit, this is just...wow. I saw the WIP on tumblr but the finished deal is just insane. The reflected fire in Nott's eyes (plus that whole sequence of her jumping and firing her crossbow!) Fjord's thunderstep, and literally everything about Caleb's spellcasting, especially the last part, and seeing his parents in the flames, gahhhhh, this is incredible!
One of the most epic scenes of the campaign. Amazing job on this! I love the sound design too!

That was amazing. From the way you did the spells, the background noise, seeing the ghost of Calebs past in the fire, and showing the pure arcane power of a wizard is breath taking. I especially love the image of his parents in the fire, you did such a amazing job showing how incredibly fucked up his history was and how much it rests on his shoulders. Well done my friend.
Possibly one of the coolest renditions I've seen of this combat sequence. Personal favorite is how you animated the fireball, a roaring mass of flame that condenses before getting thrown out to explode on impact. Gorgeous.

Just started getting into Critical Role, just finished this episode. Immediately went looking for cool animations. This one was ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!! All the magic was so creative and captured beautifully!!!

The subtext actions that players make in their discribtions that the animator makes up on their own is the Best part from minor actions to spell design.
