    NOTE: The cushion is installed upside down in this video (lol). It's from taking it apart and putting it back together in order to film it; I was paying attention to the video screen and not the orientation for the shots.

    Hey, great video. Thanks for taking the time and producing well writen, thorough reviews. This is a product that I will likely never own but your video kept me interested and covered most of what I would look for, both through visuals and commentary. Out of curiosity, what is your background? Your videos are so high quality right out of the gate, despite being a new channel. Did you use to work as an editor for other youtube channels? Do you have a big team behind you now or are you running your channel on your own? I really loved all the videos of yours that I have watched, especially the Quest 3 videos.

    • @aline.tech.reviews
      @aline.tech.reviews  Před 4 měsíci

      Hey there, I truly appreciate that! I have no previous videography nor editing experience; I've been learning as I go. This is my first YT channel and I'm running it alone. I've wanted to create the channel for nearly 5 years as I grew tired of my current career. I put a ton of effort (12--16 hour days) for what I consider to be little in return, and wanted to switch to being self-employed.
      I was previously a web developer that graduated to director of web development (managing teams of developers), and now I'm an account director (I manage client web projects and communications from a high level). All programming / architecting / web dev background and learned to manage projects as I built teams and brought in new clients over the past 14 years.
      My guess as to why the videos are doing well is because I obsessive over the details. It's a trait that annoys co-workers as I create more work for us all to get the best product out the door, but it works in my favor here on CZcams where the most information in as little as time is valuable.
      These videos have done surprisingly well and confirmed that I can in fact switch to this full-time as long as I can find time to actually make videos (which is difficult due to how much I work). I'm dealing with my father being ill at the moment, but am working on optimizing my processes and spinning down my workload at work so that I can get videos out more quickly.
      I'd like to hire an editor ASAP, but it's hard to find one that will spend as much time editing them as I do.

    Nice to see you also have a great chair. Been looking at the headrest for a little while.

      This headrest definitely gets a lot of use from me! I'm not confident I would have purchased the HM Embody without the promise of one.
      I know it's not "necessary" or "posturally perfect", but I've always had one and those 6 months without it really lacked in lounging/breaks at my desk.
      Interesting to see that Herman Miller put a headrest directly on their newest gaming chair.

      @aline.tech.reviews  Před 9 měsíci

      Just saw your edited update:
      You are an Embody veteran! I was definitely window shopping it nearly a decade ago, but didn't have the means or justification to purchase back then.
      I've seen reviews of this reversible saddle chair (Hag Capisco). If you end up getting it (or an alternative), definitely let me know how it works out for you. The HM Aeron has front tilt, no? The Capisco seems like it would provide more stability by looking at it.
      I hope you have a quick and healthy recovery from surgery! ♥♥

      😆 I like to think of office chairs as a long-term investment of health, similar to a mattress, which helps lower the blow of the insane costs. I spend more time in my office chair than I do sleeping (12+ hours a day)! I've found that quality chairs typically last 6-10 years.

    Great video. I notice you have the non gaming version. How do you find it? I would prefer the gaming one for the extra cushioning and the cyan colouring, but it's about $400 more than I can get the exact one you appear to have for? Also does your chair make a lot of noise as quarterly the gaming version is noisier than the non gaming one. Like you there's no way i would buy this without knowing I have the option of a headrest (and a stellar one at that).

    • @aline.tech.reviews
      @aline.tech.reviews  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I believe the gaming version is typically cheaper than the non-gaming (due to it being consumer-facing and not customizable). They raised the prices sometime this week.
      I think the reason for this price increase is because they have a 15-25% sale in the November-December holiday season; they are likely pre-emptively increasing the price to make the discount look better than it is. If you are planning to purchase retail, I would still wait for that sale. I believe last year they had 25% off gaming, 20% off non-gaming at the peak. I bought mine with those discounts applied which is why the price is cheaper.
      My chair was $1,895.00 retail + $96 tax. I got a $284 discount from a 15% holiday sale, and then I asked them for an additional 5% off (because they introduced a 20% sale the week after; customer support was awesome and they applied an additional refund of $100). The chair cost me $1,600 after all was said and done.. so it's worth waiting for that sale. I could have bought 2 headrests with the discounts!
      The chair makes noise when moving, but it's not excessive or abnormal. I don't know that I've had a chair that doesn't make sense. It's not excessively loud or out of the ordinary. When I'm recording videos at my desk, I do have to be still (I can't fidget around, otherwise my mic will pick up chair sounds in the background). I sit in it 12-16 hours a day and the noise has never been something I've noticed outside recording videos from my PC mic.
      I can confirm the Atlas Headrest is worth it if you end up getting this chair! I would wait for the HM 20% discount and then apply your savings to getting the headrest.

      @formulaic78 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@aline.tech.reviews Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I'm actually in Shanghai so pricing here is a little different. Official HM store has a sale on at the moment with both the normal rythym version at $1600, the gaming sync one at $1,700 and the normal medley one also at $1,700.
      Our black friday is called 11.11 so I'm gonna wait for Nov 11 and see if they have a better sale then, cos I psychologically don't wanna spend over 10,000RMB ($1,400) on a chair. Plus I think the gaming one launched at $1,500 so I think they're likely just gouging due to popularity at above that price.
      There are resellers selling the normal rythym embody for $1,200, so I think I'll just go with them if HM won't go under $1,500 on 11.11.
      Good to know that the noise isn't too intrusive. I have a dx racer drift which is actually pretty comfortable and very quiet atm, but the ergonomics aren't quite good enough.
      One last question if you don't mind. Is this chair suitable for pushing back away from an OLED TV on my desk and doing some reclined gaming with a controller? At present I lock my chair to about a fifteen to twenty degree recline to game like that in the evenings. But I have a feeling the embody doesn't have a lock recline feature.

    • @aline.tech.reviews
      @aline.tech.reviews  Před 8 měsíci

      My apologies for the delay in response to you! CZcams does not notify me when new replies are made (which is odd - I happened to find your reply by poking around in the options).
      Noted on your pricing and country status! Sorry to assume you were also in the US.
      I believe buying from a retailer is a great option. I almost went that route, but with the HM official sales the retailer pricing was only slightly less (I opted to go with HM direct since I know they have great customer support if anything were to go wrong). I know many people buy this way for additional discounts.
      Another option - if you have them - is to check out an "used office furniture warehouse". Where I live, many large companies will upgrade their offices or go out of business, and their office furniture gets collected in a warehouse and sold at a large discount. It's used chairs, but typically in great shape because it lived in an office environment. It's typically easier to find high-end Herman Miller chairs in larger cities.
      The chair is suitable for reclining! I believe it is at 94* upright and can recline back to 120*. I recline for playing games on my television that is up on the wall and I find it comfortable. When you lean back, it holds you there. You are correct, there is no "tilt lock" to hold your tilt position. My old chair had a tilt lock; it takes a while to get used to not having it. There is a reverse lock to set a MAXIMUM recline distance (a lock so the chair won't let you go further than the 10, 20, or 30 degree increment), and then a tilt tension which is how much force the chair "pushes back" when you lean backward. The closest you can get to a tilt lock is by lowering the tilt tension (which reduces the amount of "pushing force" the chair has to push you backup, but still the chair will sit upright with you when you move.

      @@aline.tech.reviews Cheers again for your reply. I have similar issues with notifications.
      I ended up going to the store and trying it along with aeron. Much preferred it to the aeron (found the seat base too hard) so bought the black gaming one, which will be delivered next week (I sat in the normal one and did notice a slight increase in comfort in the seat back in the gaming one, though I know this also comes with drawbacks such as the ribbed fabric, possible greater noise and even maybe not being as good for your back). I found that if you loosened the back and went to full recline that you can indeed recline back and stay there pretty much without needing to stabilise yourself with your feet in an uncomfortable manner.
      I've decided to buy the headrest though as a channel called "the posture guy" who made the best chair setup guide imo, recommended that if you are gonna recline fully in this chair for extended periods you would really need a headrest. I think this chair was really designed for desk work and then reinterpreted for mouse and keyboard gaming so I think that makes sense.
      Got it for $1600 btw, which pretty happy about as on their website here it's $2000, but they'd already started their 11.11 (black friday equivalent here) sale.

    • @formulaic78
      @formulaic78 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@aline.tech.reviews hey. So my chair turned up today. Was really liking it until I decided to put it into full recline to game for a couple of hours with a controller. After 30 mins my legs started to go numb! Couldn't believe it because this is the gaming aspect of a chair for me; leaning back and playing for a bit. Have found that the second recline setting is fine for me. But any further and the front of the seat, I guess, cuts off leg circulation. I already have the seat at the lowest and am 173cm, 70kg so average height and weight. The only solution I can think of is a footstool when gaming, or not going any further back than the second tilt lock, but that's no solution! What a bummer. Also being in China there's no 30 day trial, so I guess if I don't like it I'll probably have to send it back within 7 days and probably at my own expense.

      I'm also at my desk 10-16 hours/day! I've had the Embody for nearly a year now.
      Headrest: legitimately comfortable (hence the reference to "head on a cloud" in the Comfort chapter). It provides excellent support for your head. It's soft and stays comfortable even when reclining all the way back (and is stable enough that it doesn't move away by the force of your head pushing against it). It's essentially a curved foam pillow lol and I love it. It's perfectly engineered to fit the chair (which is not an easy feat).
      Chair: also surprisingly comfortable. I was expecting it to be uncomfortable at first and require that you get accustomed to it, but it's literally effortless from day 1. I've had chairs ranging from $100-800 before and none have provided the level of support that the Embody does. It's difficult to to put into words, but it hugs and braces all the right places.. but still has a "relaxed" stance. No pain or discomfort at all. The range of motion in the tilt is perfect and when paired with the headrest it's a legitimate lounging chair when at the desk (for watching videos, playing games, or whatever).

      Is that confirmed? I may have to reach out to Herman Miller to doubly confirm if we aren't 100%. It was my understanding that this Embody version was designed in a way that, as long as you install it correctly, it does NOT void the chair's warranty. Since it wraps around the back and doesn't interfere with the chair's function. At least, this is what Atlas still has on their website.

      This is not the case, at least in Australia. We have strong consumer rights laws and HM would have to prove the headrest damaged the chair which I seriously doubt they could do.
