wow a band that can take the same tune and make two completely different and awesome songs. they've officially become one of my favorite bands.
Blind Guardian is the best band ever!!!!
The sounds, the lyrics and everything is perfect with BG. They changed my life.

I've looked in wikipedia and looked saw that this song is an alternative, darker version of fly. And you can hear it too, especially in the beginning.
does anyone esle agree with me that blind guardian, sonata arctica, avantasia, and ayreon have invented a new metal genre..... broadway metal
i mean all their music has a very theatrical and "play like" feel. Avantasia and aryeon even incorperate many singers, singing as different characters. it's so awsome

I'm amazed it took me so many listens to realize the connection between this and Fly. One day I was listening to this, humming along with it, ythinking it was Fly, when suddenly I was like "wait, that's not how the song goes".
It's nice to see actual Metal fans comment on a band like this instead of those people who try to start shit. .__. Anyways, didn't even know this song existed 'till just a minute ago. And I call myself a Blind Guardian fan. Dx I like "Fly" and this one in different ways, both good in their own way.
@SkyeShade yes i know, i just remember a interview before album came out were he said this song was a dark version of fly,so i assumed it be a darker telling of peter pan

Did you listen to it more than once? It's my favourite Blind Guardian song of all time, and I like every album they've put out, with my favourite album being IFTOS. So no, I'll have to disagree when you say it's a bit "tacked on".

@dlteodorian Why are you saying "Um Sorry"? That's exactly what I was saying in the other comments. The reason why I mention the Lemean Hydra in my blog entry is to show how clearly it is imagery used to say "The Beast" in the song.

"The blood of sirens on my hands" Jesus christ, that part of the song is so fucking slow and dark. I bloody love it. "Dead song of Misereeeeeey". COME ON. This just screams badassery from every place possible.

they have epic lyrics. Oh, and it's supposed to be two sides of the same story. "Fly" is the hero's (good) version, "Dead Sound of Misery" is the villain's (evil) version...at least that's what I've been told.

When I bought A Twist in the myth, I was like "wtf, why does this have 2 'Fly's??" But then I noticed it's a totally different song.. Damn good, this one!

when i first heard this song, I thought it was going to be 'Fly' from the point of view of the pirates of neverland. That would have been cool too, lol! This is ALOT more frightening and reminds me of Wayne Barlow's images of hell.
@thereos91 Wikipedia... Really, all it says is that it's a 19th century Russian engraving. It depicts the beast as a sirruch, which is a Babylonian mythological creature...

I dunno how many times this must be explained. Fly and Dead Sound of Misery ARE the same song but Blind guardian made Fly from the perspective from a good guy or a hero and they made the song Dead sound of misery to be from an evil perspective. For example if there was a movie that had clips of like...i dunno lord of the rings is a fairly good example...but if two appossing sides were building armies, they could use "Fly" for the good guys and have "DSOM" for the badguys
Apparently no one say my follow up comment redacting my previous statement, I realized it was different shortly after posting.
It's an apocalyptic version of Fly, meant to have darker lyrics than Fly.
Sorry, but the music theory snob is coming out of me. Both songs are primarily in minor keys, but the key was just changed in Dead Sound of Misery. The tonic of Fly is Eb for most of the song, while the tonic for Dead Sound Of Misery is Ab. Also, some of the melodies were changed in Dead Sound Of Misery.

I think bonus tracks are pointless, I think bands should just put them on the main album or put them on their next album.

what does it says seems like cyrillic from the first line
The picture is from a Cyrillic manuscript of the Bible, so its connection to the song is only by association to the lyrics "Enjoy the heat of your whore Babylon". Blind Guardian did not choose this image.

I actually prefer this to Fly, even though Fly is really cool too.
Because the song mentions both the Whore of Babylon and the Hydra/Seven-headed Beast she rides.

Actually, unless Fly has some hidden eschatological meaning to it, I think they don't have a connection beyond the fact that this is the "dark" version. Lyrically, this is about the Apocalypse, while Fly is about Peter Pan...

First of All, this is not a bonus track, second, Lucifer's Heritage wasn't going to be BG's band name. It was called Lucifer's Heritage a LONG time ago, then it's name changed to BG, it's not like "it was going to be" and something stopped it from becoming Lucifer's Heritage, plus lots of BG's songs criticize "Catholicism"(" was due to possible mispelling)
