Mapping is very important, learning how to read maps is a must, meaning the scales, magnetic deviation, legends, and reading contour lines for water flow directions. Excellent video.

I would be interested in a video of urban maps to get a better understanding. Thanks for what you are doing and keep up the good work.

Good video and nice timing. I'm actually editing a beginner level video that will be released later this week that incorporates pace count will using a local trail map at a nature preserve. Finding access to good terrain to bushwack is hard to find so I appreciate you sharing your experiences.

    Another good video Paul!
As a scout counselor/instructor, I highly recommend BSA Merit Badge pamphlets and field manuals for beginners to learn from.
These pamphlets are designed for younger children so are easy to read and have plenty of photos and diagrams, they are readily available through local scout organizations and amazon, and are not very expensive.
Some of the relevant topics include navigation, knot tying, pioneering, camping, survival, tracking, first aid, etc.
I even use them in my classes outside of scouts to civilians/families etc.

Let’s see some urban map videos! I honestly haven’t considered the need for them. I bet it’d be great information to have!

Hello- This is a very good way to ass resources and other details. Having the distances as your map does would be a nice help. Most people just plug in spots on the GPS and call it good, but with transferring those items to the topo map, you get a birds eye view from your last known location. Having taught Land Nav before, it can be quite confusing to some when trying to cram as much information in, within a limited timespan. When I taught Land Nav(time permitting), the "crawl, walk, run" method seemed to work best. Thanks for the video and be safe out there- Carry On-

I have as well. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been interested in this kind of stuff. I just don’t feel comfortable being dependent on an electronic device to get around. Land navigation is a great skill to have, and most people today (other than people in the military or search and rescue) don’t know the first thing about it.
