    I cannot help it. Every time I see that grimace on her face as she salutes on one leg, I just tear up. the pain she had to be in from running on that leg, pounding down hard on it to do her vault....and STILL stick that landing. I just cry for her.

  • @smooshiebear80
    @smooshiebear80 Před 7 lety +25

    It was such a shock to see the rock solid Kerri miss that first landing. But I remember thinking at the time, "Even if she's injured, is ANYONE could do the vault again it's her. She could land on one foot if she has to." And she did! It was amazing.

    "I knew that I could live with injured ankle, but not without my dream"
    "Strug herself was outspoken about this issue, giving her support to Karolyi and saying that it was her decision to vault."
    -Kerri Strug.
    So please keep silent until you know what you say is true.

      Thank you posting this, Kerri has said countless times that she didn't want her Olympics to be remembered/her memory of it being falling on her butt, she wanted to go out strong

    WOW !! And WOW again. Kerri exemplified what the American spirit is all about. That vault, when she was in so much pain, after tearing two ligaments in her left ankle on the previous vault and a top performance was needed by her in order for the American team to win gold, will go down in infamy. God bless Kerri.

    To people saying she was ordered to is absurd, they did not know if they had the Gold medal and also Kerri did this for herself, since she did want to remembered for falling during her Olympic experience.

    Makes me cry of the beauty I see in Strug's and angry at what we now see in gymnastic athletes. They will never compare to these past athletes that showed dedication, Patriotism and loyalty to not only the USA but to its people.

    • @theglowingbrownie5124
      @theglowingbrownie5124 Před 2 lety +2

      Kerry has said that she thanks Bella for always making her do extra vaults. They vilify the Karolyis but without their rigorous training and focus on discipline, our american team would have probably never become what it did during those olympics that’s why I hate that to this day Dominique Moceanu keeps complaining that the Karolyis weren’t too nice. It wasn’t that they just had to do their best to make these girls win. Isn’t that the point in the olympics…to win? Because if not then stay in your little town little league just practicing without many goals or expectations.

    • @theglowingbrownie5124
      @theglowingbrownie5124 Před 2 lety +1

      @@theglowingbrownie5124 exactly. Dominic moceanu keeps whining about her own father and the karolyi’s putting them in the bad light. First of all, nobody’s force her to join gymnast. She couldn’t have quitted long time ago. I saw some video clip here in yt of moceanu’s prime years when she was in the karolyi’s training camp. She seemed happy and enjoying at what she was doing. Nowadays In interviews, She’s full of bitterness and ungrateful to the karolyi’s. I see that she runs her own gymnast training business. Is this what she wants to get profitted for destroying others specially her former coaches. She also has a book turn out to be a dismal flop. Maybe she has the ambition to be the head of USA gymnastics team. No respect for this woman. Gymnast icon Nadia comeneci who popularized gymnastics to a next level never said an ill words to bela and Martha karolyi. Even other great gymnast such as Nellie Kim, ludmilla tourescheva, svetlana kourkhina, Shannon Miller, Mary Lou rhetton and among others never said an ill words to their respective coaches.

    Kerri Strug, 1980 US Hockey team's miracle on ice, and one of my all-time favorite US Olympic win, wrestler Rulon Gardner. All memories that will endure! If you're not familiar with Rulon, check this video out......It will make your heart swell with pride to be an American! A big ol young corn-fed Wyoming dairy farmer beats a mountain of a Russian wrestling legend to upset the Olympics and take home the gold.

    At the time, they did need the second vault. The Russian, Roza Galievak,, had not performed yet, and could have won the gold. As it turns out, she wouldn't have, but it was a possibility at the time of Strug's second vault. The choice was Strug's to make. Hard, adult decisions come with the job of being an Olympian. As for the Karolyis being "child abusers," every student they've ever coached has had the contractual right to quit and go home anytime, day or night, for any reason. And the IOC kept a searing eye on them as Olympic coaches. They couldn't have gotten away with abusing a child if their lives depended upon it.
