- JODECI! The legendary R&B group stopped by Sway in the Morning and talked about their new album, The Past, The Present, The Future.
While in-studio they talked about why they went on their hiatus, and the 2 things that kept them relevant -- a catalog and loyal fans.
Speaking of fans. Sway mentions one of our co-workers is a huge Jodeci fan -- then in comes DB, aka "Debonair," singing their praise and offering to be another member of the group!
Dalvin and K-Ci also opened up about their craziest stalker stories. From fans knowing their social security numbers to another threatening to do harm to K-Ci's car -- both stories are entertaining.
Sway then opens their conversation to old memories, and reminisces about the time they were on the set of Tupac's How Do You Want It video shoot. Sway had done his last interview with Pac their, and K-Ci shares his vivid memories with us from that day too.

The documentary I watched on Da Bassment exposed Devante was an abusive manager/producer or whatever the heck he was. That’s why Missy, Timbaland, Magoo and Ginuwine left.
Now I’m not sure if Gin, Missy and Timb actually got assaulted themselves because as you know it wasn’t just them 3. There were quite a few other artists but after finding that out he went from being one of the finest male for me to the ugliest.

And the funny part is he did have a child. His little girl was just a few months old at the time of this interview. He tried to shield her from the public and not reveal her existence to the media cause he wanted her to have a normal life. He just finally post a video of her on IG two weeks ago and shocked everybody. No one knew about her until that moment.

I always felt they where on top of rnb groups in the 90's and there where many I loved like Mint Condition, Next, Htown, Boys to Men, but Jodeci, they did something to me...
Guy (even though they disbanded for most of the 90s, still released The Future in the 90s which is a good album), Soul For Real, Bell Biv Devoe, Blackstreet also some greats worth mentioning too.

I love Jodeci so much. Their first two albums are pristine. They were played before and after school. They're trendsetters and they can sing like no other (especially K-Ci♥). I used to be so cute in little Jodeci boots from Doumitt. Oooh and I was extra in the patent leather ones. You couldn't tell me NOTHIN'! I had posters, cassettes, cd's, imports, you name it, I had it. Dalvin, you keep sayin' that r&b was takin' the backseat, but if I remember clearly, r&b was poppin'. D'Angelo, Mary J., Faith, R. Kelly, Brandy and a few others were on fire. Maybe I'm missing something or don't remember. I didn't like Father MC too much, but if Jodeci was singin' on the track then that's all I need. He was so overlooked. Really Sway? Drake and J Cole can sing? Rap, sure, but sing? Man please. I rock with Boyz II Men, but they disappointed the hell outta me with that alternative bullsquat they released last year. I heard it and said, WTF IS THIS? DAMN! I didn't like one song. I didn't hear one signature Wanya riff or nothin'. At least Jodeci stayed true to r&b (kinda). Ya'll need to take my advice and release Incredible or Stress Reliever as the next singles. If anything, Bobby Brown copied them style-wise. Vocally, man please. K-Ci could whisper on a song and tear up Bobby. And R. Kelly was out too. PLEASE! Bobby faded away like no other. I wish I could've called and talk to them. The best male r&b groups of the 90's will always be Jodeci, H-Town, Boyz II Men, Mint Condition and Silk. Honorable mention- Blackstreet. I'm talkin' *vocals* and then hits. Excellent interview, Sway. I enjoyed this and wish it was longer.
P.S. K-Ci, that song on yo' My Book album you did with Aaron Hall and Al B. was everything to me.
I know this is 5yrs later if bobbys solo album came out in 1986/87? Bobby was street then. He was wearing hiphop clothes and suits. Then his 2nd solo was out in 1988. He wore hiphop/street outfits and suits. Jodeci came out in 81. Wearing suits or hiphop outfits. Bbd came out 1990.rizzos solo album came out 1990. Both bbd and rizzo wore hiphop outfits and suits.

Jodeci DEFINITELY added the edge or more street effect to it. Way harder of a look than BBD. "Jodeci boots" was actually the all black Dr. Martens. FYI...
