We thought you might like a look at this very rare 1942 Pontiac Torpedo. This car was frame-off restored about 8 years ago and has been well-maintained ever since. It's powered by a straight six, backed by a manual transmission and features a very streamlined fastback body style. We hope you find it interesting, thanks for taking a look!

This is the 1st time I've ever seen one. Pontiac is my favorite brand. A lot of nostalgia for me. I mean this when I say, Thank you so much for taking the time to put this video together.

Some 1942 cars came without their chrome bright work, because chrome was rationed. Some 1942 cars also came with special covers for headlights to make them harder to spot from the air.

Just found out about these cars after I did research trying to find out what the remains of a car that is in the woods by my house. Turns out it’s was once one of these! Very beautiful car and if I didn’t have kids in college, I might drive out to Staunton and pick it up as I’m just over the river in St. Louis!! Thanks for posting!

My late father bought his first car a 1950 Pontiac Chieftain. Lemon yellow below the window and dark green above. He bought it from the original owner. From 1942 till 1949 the radiator grill changed very little.

Wow! a rare one there. Love that front end on the '42. The GM Aerosedans are one of my all time favorite cars. I'll take any one. The crowning touch on these are skirts and Fulton visors to complete the streamline look. Simply art on wheels.

I’m an Oldsmobile man, but this 42 Pontiac is much better looking than the 42 Olds.
My first car was a 49 Buick Roadmaster torpedo, fastback, or sedanette as it was called.

Any 1942 model car is collectible, due to the abbreviated production run caused by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour. Less than a month after the Japanese attack, the federal government’s Office of Production Management froze car-making. OPM’s officials also froze the sale and delivery of cars-except for individuals who had signed a contract, to buy a car, before January 1, 1942.
If a person had such a signed contract, the local rationing board could issue a permit allowing the buyer to secure the car’s delivery. Every American car manufacturer had to end car production by the 22nd of February, 1942. All cars and light trucks which hadn’t been sold by that cutoff date-around 520,000 of them-became part of a new stockpile. While the war lasted, those stockpiled vehicles could be sold to “essential drivers” via a system of rationed sales.
Of the handful of passenger cars manufactured in January and February 1942, many used painted rather than plated exterior trim, as chromium was declared a strategic material. Extremely rare today, these vehicles are known as blackout or victory models. Here are the dates when various manufacturers stopped building '42 models:
    January 24th - Willys Overland
    January 29th - Dodge
    January 31st - Lincoln, Chrysler & Studebaker
February 3rd - Oldsmobile, Buick, Cadillac, Hudson & Nash.
    February 6th - Chevrolet
    February 9th - Ford & Packard
    February 10th - Pontiac
