Army Mechanic: the only role where you get to wield a wrench and a weapon, and nobody questions it.

I’m a 9 year infantryman. I want to be a mechanic because I’ve always loved working in vehicles. Grew up working old American vehicles with my father. I have a 59 Apache and a 64 chevelle ss.

If you don't join the infantry. Infantry men will think you didn't fight. They will call you a tourist no matter what you did, because only they can be the heros. Nobody explained to them how the ARMY works. It's ok tho. I might be a chock block but your cannon fodder. Both important.

the dynamic you're describing is way worse in the Marine Corps, I was in both branches. Supply guy in the Marines and Infantry in the Army. Combat arms Marines have legit discontent towards none combat arms Marines. When I was in the Army, I didn't get that sense at all... It was there a little bit, but mostly light hearted jokes if anything. I heard some staff NCO's who were waiting for us to issue them the gear we procured for them, talking about how just like Corpsman are from the Navy... All none combat MOS's, like supply, should also be from the Navy. They were having this conversation out loud. I was a CPL and had junior Marines who just got to our shop a couple months before this, they could hear them as well, they didn't care about what they were actually saying... Saying this kind of sht in front of Marines who had over 3 years left on their contracts... Who would be deploying to Afghanistan in a couple months at that time. They didn't give af. That's an example of "toxic leadership" bs people throw around. These dudes were staff NCO's and should have known better and yet they were having a very Lance Corporal esq conversation. I didn't get the sense there was actual discontent for our support people when I was in the Army, but then again I was in the Guard lol.

@user-mr9lt2wz7c I might be wrong and narrow minded because I never looked at another soldier and said, "ohh, he's just a (your MOS here) he aint shit". ONE TEAM ONE FIGHT!

@@SiegefyaI’m currently in a class with some infantry dudes (I’m a 35S attending BLC rn), and I never got the feeling of discontent from any of them. Sure, they still think I’m a nerd and “POG,” but it's just jokes and they all know we are one team, one fight.
I’ve heard nothing but bad things about how grunt marines treat POG marines though, which makes me so glad I didn't go with them

This is very misleading as a 91B your not some of the tools seen here it’s like working in a shop in the 90s you’ll also be overworked and undervalued in every unit I would recommend a different mos

Did it for 8 years in the army but it was the 63W MOS back then. You got the overworked and under appreciated part right. Got put on more KP duty and gate/ roving guard duty than I care to remember. Mechanics were always in Maintenance Platoons and always got the shit end of the stick. Pick another MOS if you can just not THAT one

@@liltophbiggbuckets4454 If you are a decade older than an 18 yr old, it sucks because you will be punished for the mistakes or them not following simple directions constantly. Its like baby sitting in third person. Unless you have a platoon instructor that allows more individualism. Depends on the temperament of said NCO. The education is easy. Very broken down compared to a civilian school that expected you to review notes the previous night. Impossible to fail unless you are careless.
