The first time I heard this hymn was when I was 14 years old. The church was packed that particular day and the whole church sang in unison and it felt so good. It felt like experiencing a glimpse of heaven for a moment. I can never forget that day in all my life.
This could be a most excellent a cappella equivalent of 18th century Austen perfection! Jane would have approved, even as her heart grieved for humanity's depravation. Only One can be crowned, and He is Lord of ALL!
Thanks for posting. "DIADEM" composer James Ellors was an Welsh Immigrant to America and lived in Kingston, NY. The first time I heard this song in a Welsh church, it gave me goose bumps; no recording ( as good as it is,) can capture the real timber of a congregation singing this, especially the SABT tenor and bass parts....Thank you again for posting this, and God Bless the Mennonites for keeping this musical tradition alive.....
Ellors came to America at the same time as some of my Welsh ancestors. 5 of my 8 great grandparents are from Wales. others may have some in them too. i have two of the Welsh Bibles they used. i guess that is partly why i love the choral music. that and that Jesus
To Christ belongs all honor, all worship and all praise. He shed His blood for sinners, so that anyone who believes this and asks for forgiveness shall be saved for eternity...John 3:16.Amen.
The last I heard this song was in the 90s when I was between 5-10 and the elderly Choir sang it always... I never knew the title .. thank God I met it here and been singing it all day long
