That farm is owned by the Segerstrom family. They also own South Coast Plaza and several of the office buildings around it. From Lima beans to millionaires, they’ve stayed true to their farming heritage while building beautiful projects and donating generously to the arts. Check the names on the large performing arts centers nearby.

These are always fun to watch. We stayed for one night in Westminster during our last trip from London. We often stay around Cost Messa for a few days because of how close it is the beaches and theme parks. If you ever go that way we love to shop at the Orange Outlets so that would be cool to see from the air. Every time I watch these vids and see the 405 moving that well I think of how nice it must be for the residents who do that freeway every day travelling to and from work. Thanks Micah
Ah Micah, this took me back a few years. I lived in Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Westminster & the South Coast Plaza area over the years. Lot's of good memories.
I really enjoy your flyovers, having lived in OC and worked in North Hollywood for 20 years. The one flight I haven't seen yet was Laguna Canyon (aka 133) from the 405 to Laguna Beach. The other route is to go off of El Toro Road, West to Laguna Canyon and into the Beach. I drove either one on weekends on my bike, then up or down PCH. Sometimes over to the Ortega Highway, and on to Lake Elsinore. That would be a cool flight too! I got laid out near the Candy Store up there by an unlicensed/uninsured driver that cost me some body parts. I worked in North Hollywood for a while and worked for ESPN and AP covering sports. USC, UCLA, Clippers, Lakers, Ducks, Kings, even drag racing. I got to know all the ares pretty well. It does make me jealous though when you take 10 minutes when some drives took me 3-4 hours. Covering a Lakers game required a 3 hour drive there and 35 minutes home! I don't miss the traffic in Texas!
Interesting video. Back in the '70s, I lived in Costa Mesa on Baker St. near Edinger. They still had fields and orchards around South Coast Plaza then. Brings back memories. I live thousands of miles from there now. Thanks.
The farm is one of the last parts, but still owned by the Segerstrom family. South Coast Plaza owned by them as well. Visiting with Hurl Howser featured that farm in his Costa Mesa episode.

What still strikes me as "weird" when you follow the freeways, Micah, is the lack of access roads that parallel (on both sides) the freeway lanes. Here in Texas we call them "feeders"! On my first visit to LA years ago, I couldn't figure out why I could see a mall, for instance, in the distance but there was no easy exit to it since I missed the sign and highway turnoff miles back. :)
I cried when I left Costa Mesa in 2002. Crying now for those that didn't leave. NB cancelled fireworks that year and were considering ridding the beach of firerings. Lawyers, Bah.

Fly over the Huntington estate (library, museum and botanical gardens) in Pasadena. Visited there years ago and would like to see it from the air.
Micah, that farm is the Segerstrom farm. The only other entity that owns a large amount of land is the Irvine Company. The Segerstroms made MILLIONS off the land South Coast was built on.

I paused the video and Googled both of them and looked at photos of them for a few minutes and then resumed watching this video. Impressive mall, and the interior of Trinity is also impressive. I have flown out of SNA a lot over years. Had a lot of flights that had take off times at 7am, when the airport opens. Been in a line of commercial jets 20+ all waiting to take-off.

The Trinity Broadcasting Building (not mentioned, but labeled) was originally built for Mary Kay Cosmetics. The building was the same "ornate" style, but was painted in MK pink!
I've been enjoying your videos for a while now, even though I never lived in that area. My grandparents lived in Azusa and my late husband and his family lived in Whittier and then La Habra Heights, on Skyline Drive. I heard stories about being able to see clear to Catalina Island on a clear day from their house. My MIL lives in Oregon now and I was telling her about you. I'm wondering if sometime you could do a flyover of the La Habra Heights area. She would get a kick out of seeing that. Thanks!
I do the same thing. I have been in a Helicopter though in Alaska. Micah Flies is just about the best ride on You Tube. When Micah has a new video, I'm right there riding along with him.

Actually, that farm is owned by the Segerstrom Family. They own the dirt under South Coast Plaza and most of the other development that has taken place in the area. Until the late 1970's all of this area was bean fields. Segerstrom Hall is part of the performing arts complex across from South Coast Plaza and now the family is more involved with philanthropy than farming.

Need a real life/ GTA V flyover Part 2. Want to see real life Eclipse Tower and other apartment buildings along with some of the office buildings like Maze Bank West. Also the mall. Thank you.
You would have a smashing hit show if you did a little research on the buildings you fly over and tell what they do there. How many employees. Housing. Fly over and tell how much do homes go for in that area. You don't have to tell just put stats on your screen. There is so much you can tell people about the areas you fly over and I'm sure people all over the world would love to see those stats. It's not a cheap place to live or is it? Bridges When was it built, what was the cost. Freeways toll roads, how does it work in that area. How do they empty big tankers out at sea? Do they use those islands you showed as a pumping station? You are flying over a drove of info you can tell or put up on your screen. LA and Orange would love you and name you a city hero. Stats and History. People love it.

So when he talks to ATC, if you look closely on his cyclic he has a red trigger. That's his Push-to-talk button for radio coms. When he just talks to the cam it's the "intercom system". I don't know a single air craft that don't do the push to talk function for radio coms.
It's crazy there are still some family farms in that area. A lot of Japanese families owned those farms in the Fountain Valley and Costa Mesa areas. A lot of them made fortunes selling their land to the Segerstrom company and other developers in that area. At one time that area around South Coast Plaza was some of the most valuable land in Orange County.
@@DanBriggs3000 Oh! Wow! I didn't know that. I just remember in the Fountain Valley area there were a lot of Japanese family owned farms. I remember getting some of the best cucumbers, tomatoes and strawberries from those farms. Thanks for the info!
