What did you think of Arctic Monkey’s 2023 Glastonbury Headline Performance?
Arctic Monkeys have always been my favourite band. It's so sad that a lot of fans only care about their biggest hits and disrespect their hidden gems.
for real,i hope they start playing more of their forgotten songs
I really like the way they "butcher" their older songs. To me thats what make their concerts different from the pre-record songs, makes the concert really worth going. I truly want to experience that live.
Sanjay, where have you been all my life? Finally, someone who speaks about this band with passion and knowledge. I’ve not seen anyone explain their sonic development so well! I absolutely adore TBH&C and The Car. I think many fans naturally latch onto their earlier tunes because it’s so relatable, compared to newer tunes because they have to read between the lines. People need to understand that change is a good thing and without it, they would become static. It shows how talented they actually are. To change their sound across 7 albums and still sound amazing is an unbelievable achievement. Great video mate, love to see more of your content ❤
Thanks so much for your kind words 🙏🏾 Glad you’re enjoying the AM content! Loads more where that came from 😅 yeah I love the past 2 albums too - I think because they’re more ‘involved’ albums you really have to take the time to listen and read the lyrics etc. - The Car and TBHC are very much a Sunday afternoon record player glass of your favourite liquor type of record. Their evolution is pretty incredible!
Saw them last year in Reading (UK), and again a couple of days ago in Athens (Greece). Would gladly see them again next year, and the year after and so on. Alex Turner is something more than a singer - he is a performer, a multidimensional artist. His vibes in Athens were amazing- not only did he interact with the crowd, he thanked us several times, including in Greek (!)
I miss the sound and live stage they brought out for the TBHC tour. Hearing those songs on their current tour don't feel the same. i am huge fan of that album and I feel like that era/tour with that live production was amazing
You’ve just reminded me how good the songs sounded on the TBHC tour! I saw them at Rock Werchter during that tour and the songs sounded incredible. Defo right about the sound rig not being the same for this one - not sure what exactly but the live production was great on that tour.
I like The Car atmosphere, but the vibe they provided with tbhc Is unmatchable... I feel ashamed of not taking part in a tbhc show😢
@@alessiotasco1289 it was my second time seeing them, went to two show and i was front rail for both. venues i went also had an amazing sound stage. TBHC was unmatched, I felt like all the extra instruments and musicians they brought out was next to perfect. the lighting, and overall feel of those shows with the props they brought out were amazing. maybe this post covid world ruined it. for the TBHC show I was basically right next to Alex's shoes. so many venues now added extra space between the artist and the front row/rail
I saw the monkeys 2 days ago as they closed the Rock Werchter festival in Belgium. And I also saw them in may in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. Setlists were pretty much the same. However, I noticed the big variety in age of the fans. At both gigs i saw a lot of teenagers that know their songs from stuff like Tiktok. These boys and girls are just getting to know the fantastic music of the Arctic Monkeys. Maybe it's the first time they see the band playing. So I can understand that these fans don't quite get the new arrangements of some of their older songs. On the other hand, I'm just a few years older than Alex Turner and i'm a fan from the first song they released. I have seen them play live many times and if they still sounded like the first time I saw them, maybe i wouldn't be a fan anymore. Their change of style was absolutely necessary imo. I have really enjoyed their shows both Amsterdam as Werchter. They did just perfect. So why don't we let them keep making fantastic music, and if they don't get to headline big festivals anymore, I will be glad to see them play some smaller shows. Oh, and for the record, their closing set at Werchter got some rave reviews here...
Well said! I for one am all for their evolution - I think it’s one of the most inspiring sound evolutions in music
Love this review, agree with every word 👏 That crowd were truly undeserving of these legends. I believe by starting with ‘Sculptures’ the band show they are fully aware of the negativity that would ensue in regard to their ‘horrible new sound’, and do not care in the slightest. Prior to the gig I pondered that they might do something different/special for Glastonbury. I think they didn’t because they don’t feel the need to go overboard- they come as they are and their art speaks for it self. They have a massive fan base world wide, and Glastonbury was one of many on their travels, and really, they have been there done that anyway. Evidently they are way to cool and intelligent for the Glastonbury crowd. I’m glad they just did it that way.
So true that the songs speak for themselves. Many people I know that have seen them on tour recently have said it was the best gig of their life so I think Glasto is just an exception tbh - thanks for the comment glad you enjoyed the video! 🙏🏾
Thank you for the video! Im so excited for the concert. Im going to see them in 4weeks.
My pleasure dude glad you enjoyed it!
Seems like the band are in a crossroads where they obviously want to play their new stuff but they realise they need the old music aswell. It's just a case of finding that perfect blend when it all works together and I'm sure they'll get there. The new songs sound great to me but making the old songs sound like the new ones some times doesn't work and I'm sure they realise that themselves as time goes on. Great video 👏
Exactly mate it may take them some time to figure out what works / doesn’t work - think they’re still in in the process of doing that because some newer songs were added to the set and then removed for a substantial amount of time before being put back in (e.g. I ain’t quite) Cheers for the kind words glad you enjoyed the vid! 🙏🏾
The time stamp titles are so nerdy, I love it... This is a solid video! It's hard to find videos of this format that seem authoritative whilst also not being pretentious and boring.
Hahaha I’m glad somebody has noticed the chapter titles! Thanks so much glad your enjoyed the video 🙏🏾
You’ve hit the nail on the head! 👏🏼 I feel exactly the same. Love this!
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed the vid! 🙏🏾
I love this video. I'm a newer fan of the band and I've already been to a show of theirs. Honestly, I love when musicians do whatever they feel like, that allows them to keep falling in love with music and to explore new sounds, which is exactly what they're doing.
I think people should understand that they've grown and want to do new things. And I'm not saying this as though I hated the older stuff, I listen to all of the albums all the time. Although it is true that The Car is the album that got me wanting more of them the first time I listened to it. Listening to the monkeys has enriched my view on music and artists enormously, and also on the making of music. Tbh Alex is brilliant at making a feeling or a message come into existence with the melody as a vessel and the lyrics at times being there only to serve as support for it, he nails it. Honestly I couldn't love them more
PS the concert was amazing :)
Well said and glad you enjoyed the video! They’re always trying to push the sound of the band forward which is what I love most about them!
i think people need to understand that they grew up and they arent in their 20’s anymore. their newer stuff is actually incredibly good, especially live
I thought the performance overall was fairly self indulgent and the set list was better geared to their own fans than the ‘general’ festival crowd you get at Glastonbury. I also believe that if they had played a more well known song first up (e.g. ‘Snap Out of it’) whilst keeping the same songs across the set list as a whole this would have helped put the crowd in a more receptive mood for their newer music.
I remember discovering you channel when you were newer to CZcams and the video quality was great but your improvement from then to now has been substantial man. These videos are fantastic, hope you continue to grow and hone your craft!
Thanks so much mate! Glad you’ve decided to stick around all this time 💪🏾 been focusing on improving the production quality of these vids - need to sort the backdrop next
I mean at the end of arabella there was a snippet of 'war pigs' as well as the improv at the end of body paint which I loved. So there was more than the Star Treatment verse in 'I wanna be yours'
Great vid!
Thanks!
I like how you reference the song names to divide different sections of the video!
Glad someone noticed that detail thanks! 🙏🏾
I was down the front for it and luckily the crowd were very much focused on the band and not on phones/talking etc. I thought the reception they got online was unfair and it was nearly a perfect headline set, all they needed to do was chuck in something like A Certain Romance/When The Sun Goes Down to please the more general festival audience, they've been swapping songs in and out through the UK tour, so I just thought they'd have kept something up their sleeve for Glastonbury. A string section with some of the tracks from The Car would've been incredible.
Still waiting for the live version of Hello You!
@@sanjaypanchalmusic strange that they haven't worked out how to do that one live yet, one of my favourites off The Car!
@@calobrien3134 I suspect it’s because they’ve figured out that the max they can play from the new album live is maybe 3 or 4 songs given the mixed reaction to the new songs. Hence they’ve decided not to work out how to play the others live - only theory I can think of really!
The reason I love this band so much is because of their change of sound. They’re one of the only mainstream bands to actually CHALLENGE their listeners with every album instead of just going with the exact same stuff for cash. You can tell that they couldn’t care less about the criticism they get, ESPECIALLY because “The Car” is like a huge f*** you to the fans that gave them so much hate after tranquility base. I mean, the first song in the album is basically a goodbye to those people. Not to mention, sculptures literally has a verse that speaks directly to the listeners, telling them that they don’t give a damn about what people think.
I hope they keep doing what they’re doing because it’s genuinely amazing to see such a good band continue moving forward instead of getting swallowed up by the fame.
Edit: I also absolutely loved the Glastonbury performance, it was awesome even through the screen!
As someone who was at the front for their 2022 Reading headline, I personally enjoyed it a lot. But I fully understand what you mean as me and my friends were basically the only ones singing along to songs from TBH&C (remember, I was front row), and everyone around us only knew the popular stuff (commonly known as a '505 crowd'). Also it was nice to see everything clearly cause when turning around all I could see where phones and people on shoulders.
Great video, loved the glasto set
Thanks so much 🙏🏾
great vid
Thanks! 🙏🏾
Liked the video, don't disagree much. Like you a lifelong fan and followed them for 20 years. Ultimately for me I am not much a fan of the newer stuff but can appreciate some of the singles and lyrics etc. Still think for Glasto more of a show was needed, not for them at all but for us.
Absolutely spot on mate. I agree with everything you said. Subscribed.
Thanks so much matey glad you enjoyed the vid!
Amazing video
Thanks so much 🙏🏾
I really appreciated this video
100% agree man. I was also there at the Emirates and Glastonbury. Completely different experience from one big singalong to appreciating the monkeys at Glasto post AM. Loved them opening with Sculptures, really set the vibe. Especially a person who loves The Car and TBHC. Great job on the video. Maybe there are too many Richard’s of York knocking about these days.
Hahaha there certainly are! Glad you enjoyed the vid 🙏🏾
I agree with you 100%...... AM are just too cool for the Glastonbury crowd
Saw them at the Emirates a week before and they were exceptional. Saw them in 2018 and they were better this time. You could see he was more tired and was carrying the the laryngitis at Glasto but it was still very very good. People just want to hate of him and them.
Man I love your videos and I love this band. Was waiting for you to release a video on Glastonbury, only got recommended to me on CZcams now, personally I loved the set but am very biased
Thanks so much man! Glad you’re enjoying the content and cheers for the kind words! Many more AM vids to come!
A highly intelligent and very good video on the Arctic Monkeys and context to their Glastonbury performance, sadly lacking in mainstream and social media. Not easy being that thoughtful and independent minded in the popularity stakes but you gain respect👍.
Thanks @billybasu3900 glad you enjoyed the vid!
I saw them at glastonbury and as part of their current tour- Enjoyed myself at the tour at lot more! I feel like the glastonbury performance started well but the second half became too slow and lacked energy. The vibe was much better on their tour I think.
I completely agree with what you’ve said about the set list and the new style they have taken in their live performances.
I do think there are a few factors that contributed to the muted response from the crowd. I was there as well and found around the midway point people were starting to switch off a bit. I think generally the Glastonbury audience tends to be more accepting and gracious then many other festivals I’ve been to but part of the problem is it was the Friday night spot. You have a choice or several main stages and people tend to choose based on what will be the most fun to get the night started before going out into the incredible night scene at the festival so I’m sure a lot of people were expecting a rocky extravagant set possibly with special guests and fireworks etc akin to what Elton provided. I think like you said people who haven’t followed the latest tours were taken back by the change in style and slowing down of the music. I thought it was an excellent performance overall but also would have loved for them to rock it up even more which maybe is unfair given the build up for the band prior to the set. I also felt 505 lost it’s impact and I wanna be yours was cool but the heavier rocky tracks all sounded fantastic. I think it comes down to taste, I like to use Radiohead vs Muse as a live music comparison. Radiohead are the more accomplished band with the most amazing albums but having seen both them and Muse live I’d see Muse live over them any day of the week. You know you get an incredible show/spectacle with Muse and it’s always fast paced and all geared to the live show, Radiohead it’s different every time and can sometimes be incredible and sometimes too slow or out there. You can appreciate both styles but sometimes when you’re at a festival you want that fast-paced rip roaring set that blows the speakers and and leaves you full of adrenaline. 😊
Yeah man good analogy with Radiohead vs Muse - both have great music but there are more obvious choices as to what to pick to play live / what tends to work at festivals. Then again, I feel like the Monkeys have earned the right to whatever the hell they want!
@@sanjaypanchalmusic Absolutely it’s their show and completely up to them how they play it. I loved it, I really loved the new arrangements on Cornerstone and Why D’you always call me when your high. I think watching back on Iplayer made it more enjoyable in a way as you can hear all the intricacies they added in the performance better. 👍
@@danwallace5801 genuinely thought the same thing the iplayer version was class haha
Excellent conclusion. I'll be watching them in a couple hours in Bilbao!! For the first time... What a band, what a band!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the video and enjoy the gig! 🙏🏾
Saw them in primavera sound here in brazil. I Could not agree more. Great band and great show. It was milles better than the 2019 lollapalooza. Sculpture in the opening was nothing but perfect.
2019 lollapalooza was banging
Muse headlined 3 times at Glasto also (2004, 2010 and 2016). Overall I agree with you, people don't understand they have moved on from the First albuns and are on a completely different stage nowadays
Good video lad. I have to say I am a die hard fan, I think his voice for the new songs and tranquility works really well. The older songs (which I assume he is not really into anymore) sound like Cabaret or a karaoke night down the local, also slowed down. Either do it justice or don’t play them at all in my opinion. Love the new touches on old songs musically. But his voice has moved on. We know he can do the old Yorkshire voice too.
i was hoping they would play more forgotten songs,i mean less played songs as something special like songs of suck it and see or their b sides
I good band is a band that doesn’t just go with what people want
Oh Sanjay, you beautiful person. Finally a well argued defence of this brilliant performance. Love it. Agreed too on 505.
Ahaha thanks Mark! Glad you enjoyed the vid! 🙏🏾
MONKEYS BACK ON THE FARM
I hold my hands up and fully admit, that I was one of those there for the first two albums. So the set was a bit of a disappointment for me at the time. I even got a bit bored. Don’t get me wrong, there were moments I was mesmerised by the newer jazz lounge songs. But it wasn’t what I was expecting and I felt it was tailored more to their fan base. However, I’ve since listened to them a lot more and I love the newer style. I’m fully converted and now obsessed with them. So, perhaps their set was actually a turning point 🤔
I attended a 2023 show in Luxembourg and every song banged, and so did the crowd
Wish I was at that gig
Agree with pretty much everything you're saying here. I am a massive Arctic Monkeys fan and love every single direction they've taken their music in, so I can see how my opinion may be skewed, but I don't understand how some people can watch that set and not appreciate the musical greatness and the spectacle that it truly was. However, I do agree that they perhaps should have done 'something special' for this set as it was Glastonbury. Although I still absolutely loved watching this set and when I saw them two days later in Glasgow.
Great video! I had a great time watching the whole thing, the new-ish Cornerstone is amazing. The new 505 has grown on me a lot as well. I think the real crime is the new Four Out of Five though. Really can't get into that one, the original is just too good.
The original Four out of Five is incredible - I wish they’d go back to the version they did during the TBHC tour where they did the original song and then did an extended outro - that was great. Glad you enjoyed the video! 🙏🏾
They were better elsewhere on the tour. I saw them the Friday before Glasto in London and they were amazing, they had loads more energy and played Ritz, the kind of track missing from their Glasto set. I do think the criticism is overblown though.
I was at that gig it was proper amazing and it was my first time seeing them live 🔥🔥
Star treatment x I wanna be yours was unbelievable also
Hi. I loved their Glastonbury set (watching on TV as not fortunate enough to be there) but one thing i have noticed from their recent gigs including the Luxembourg gig which I attended on Tuesday is the strange way Alex talks between songs. I don't mind the new arrangements of the old songs but does he have to croon the interactions with the crowd between the songs? Why doesn't he talk normally? Do you think it is just part of his stage persona?
I think it’s either his stage persona on this tour, or the fact that he’s just a bit jaded / tired from their pretty manic touring schedule - playing as many shows as they’ve been doing is really tough and they’ve already been on tour for a year now! Hope you enjoyed the vid - thanks for watching!
@@sanjaypanchalmusic yes I agree about being tired, that's a pretty manic schedule they've been on!
Sanjay I dunno mate, when 90% of the audience thinks its a bad gig at the time, it's just a bad gig
The criticism from critics (and Jamie Carragher) aren’t fair in my opinion - maybe it wasn’t their best performance but can’t argue with the setlist and the new sound imo
If AM is a rock band after the car than coldplay is a rock band too damn it
The thing is that Coldplay have never been a rock band. The Arctic Monkeys have made several rock albums and still play rock songs live. Coldplay haven’t ever really made much rock music, and don’t play rock music live. Coldplay are still a great band, just not a rock band, more a pop/soft rock band.
Actually I love AM because they are changing, aging and maturing as any one of us, and I am grateful to be able to withness this journey in real time🙌🏻
Same here!
i feel like this perform is as great as always bc they dont rlly need to try to do a good performance but they could have own more for glastonbury maybe just like singing when the sun goes down bc well this is one of their most iconic songs and they sang it the last times they were there and it gives it like an element of surprise (tlsp reference intended) but when i was watching glastonbury from my tv i kept hoping he would pull some tricks up his sleeves to step up the performance but oh well whatever 🤷♂
they have special guest james ford on stage
Good spot! Although they didn’t announce him - he was just filling in for one of the extra guys I think
To people who have actually listened to the last two albums it comes across as a decent performance but to the general public who only know a few singles from the AM album it comes as a surprise hence the shock and negativity
Lots of great points. There were a few songs that would've been nice to see on the setlist (e.g. when the sun goes down, do me a favour, etc.) But you're always going to get that problem with bands who have large discographies.
Don't really understand people complaining about Alex's slight changing of lyrical timing in songs like WDYOCMWYH, because that's musical interpretation of music he wrote himself, but the renditions of 505 and I wanna be yours both fell flat, which may have stuck with people as they are arguably the bands two most popular songs.
In regards to stage presence, everyone on stage is an incredible musician, and that's clear to see. As you point out, not all front men/women are inclined to hype up the crowd, simply because of who they are. The problem however arises with this, when there are long transitions between songs, so the logical thing to do - to fill time and carry on the energy - would've been to talk to the crowd, or the other solution would simply be to make transitions between songs quicker.
I don’t understand the hate. I saw them two days ago in Nimes, France, and they were incredible. They’ve definitely changed since their AM days but that was 10 years ago guys.
Great and well balanced video, very much agree with your takes. The idea that they “didn’t play enough bangers” at Glasto is just factually untrue.
DIWK, R U Mine?, Dancefloor, Flourescent, Brianstorm, Mardy Bum, Arabella, Teddy Picker, Crying Lightning… what more could you want?
I was also at The Emirates on the first night and the energy was fantastic there. Seemed like the band fed off the crowd and vice versa, while watching on TV it seemed like Glastonbury was kind of the opposite.
It was painful seeing them bash out arguably the best live rendition of Body Paint (imo one of their greatest ever pieces of work) and see the crowd largely so unresponsive.
They are artists who stay true to themselves, it’s a shame more people can’t appreciate it and slate them because they don’t meet their own very narrow and unrealistic expectations.
Exactly - I’d have thought that a mainstream band creating albums like The Car and TBHC would be looked upon favourably considering that this type of music doesn’t usually get chart exposure & the band are essentially bringing this stuff to a mainstream audience - people just need to be more open minded in my opinion! Glad you enjoyed the video! 🙏🏾
Best era?
(Personally the Inbetween era of SIAS and AM. Around 2011-2012)
Such a difficult question that - think I’d have to go Tranquility Base Era - loved everything about it - concept, the songs, stage design, live show etc so good
I agree with this entire video. I wasn't really blown away by their performance at Glasto, but I think the hate is veryyy unnecessary. They still played a bunch of their older songs and I thought the energy was good considering Alex had laryngitis. As for the changes in their songs, I feel like it helps them more than the fans. I'm sure it gets repetitive playing the same songs for over 10 years, so changing up the style of playing probably makes it easier for them to keep all of these songs on the set. They could mostly be playing songs from their two latest albums, but instead, they chose to keep most of their older ones. People need to stop complaining so much and just enjoy the music!
I would love to see Oasis reform for a few concerts! I don't think the Gallaghers could ever co-exist enough to record an album and tour it, but for a few shows, that would be special. I love the Arctic Monkeys. I'm not a big fan of their last two records all though I do love the song Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino!
I was at their next gig in Glasgow 2 nights after Glastonbury and they absolutely blew the crowd away with pretty much the same set list (1 change which was Ritz to Rubble swapping I Wanna Be Yours).
Many of the crowd went home saying it was the best gig they had ever went to considering a lot of them weren't expecting much after their reviews on Glastonbury but were proved wrong.
Body Paint seemed to be one of the biggest crowd pleasers and Turner absolutely ran the show and could tell he was back to full health.
I think Glastonbury has developed into quite an obnoxious snobby atmosphere after reading some of the comments from those who were there and I think the band realise it themselves.
Glasgow crowds are also the best of the best!
@sanjaypanchalmusic This is true even as far back as the 1960's from what my dad has told me about his experiences.
But Glasgow at the same time can be a difficult audience to please and if artists don't perform well, the crowd will come on to them like a ton of bricks.
You only need to look at Oasis during their prime when the Glasgow crowd hurled abuse at them before cutting their gig short in 1997.
Hence, even more the reason why AC's Glasgow gig was glorious.
Do you not count the Cure as a rock band then? They've headlined 4 times. Also Muse have headlined 3 times.
To be fair, I believe that they are not your usual big arena Rock band. Not enough material for that type of gig, or they do have them but choose to play from the recent records and that is fair enough. TBHC works definitely good and better in middle size and indoor venues. My brother was at the Emirates gig and had mixed feelings too, some moments good, others blunt and lost in the acoustics of such a big stadium.
How is Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino not on par with AM
I never said it wasn’t lad - it just didn’t do as well commercially. In the eyes of a record label it’s not on par with AM at all. From a musical standpoint that’s a different question all together - I personally love it!
I was there for the Glasto set, right at the front, I love the Arctics and the atmosphere was immense, but having just enjoyed the energy of The Foos and Royal Blood I felt the performance was a bit flat, 505 was a disappointment (which is usually my absolute fave) and the newer stuff just didn't do it for me live sadly.
I do think the newer stuff sounds great live - I just don’t think Glasto was right place for it - they’ve sounded so much better at their other shows
After watching the performance (torrented it, I'm not from the UK lol) I can see the point in some of the criticism but yeah I also think people were blowing it way outta proportion. Anybody that's a serious AM fan knows what they've been doing for the past 5 years for Christ's sake lol, these guys aren't kids anymore, and if ya don't like it well that's fine, you can go listen to the old records. Also I like your point about fan-service, it's clear they don't give a shit what people think and they're gonna do whatever they want. I won't pretend the concert was all that great either or that I'm crazy about the last album, I'm just gonna chalk the lack energy mainly up to the fact that they were sick. And last point, yes I agree that the new arrangement of 505 is kind of ass lmao.
Muse has headlined Glastonbury 3 times and is bound to make a 4th.
im sitting here waring my bound cardigan agreeing with all of this thinking the car is the best album ive heard in years. great vid dude
Thanks mate! Much appreciated! Bound garments are👌🏾
@@sanjaypanchalmusic i like the way the musics evolved away from the love of the mainstream audience. the car is far far too specialist for your average music listener. i like to think we're now this exclusive club of monkeys fans who've evolved along with the bands genius 😃
The Arctic Monkeys receive negative reviews because their new brand, style, and music do not resonate with people, and they may not connect with them. Even the way Alex Turner walks and talks is different. There used to be a sense of relatability and connection for fans, but now many can't identify and don't enjoy their new sound. Change like this is bold but also comes with risk.
Agree - I also think the newer stuff is less surface level, especially lyrically the style which is less ‘observational’ and more poetic and requires a lot more patience and time to really understand - I just don’t think people have the attention span anymore!
I don't understand, I think the setlist is any Arctic Monkeys fan's dream. It's near perfect in my opinion.
Yeah completely agree - not sure what else they could have done! The gig wasn’t the best one I’ve been to but I blame the crowd for it - they were just disrespectful and kinda ruined it for me seeing them live. Luckily got to see them a week before and it was everything I expected and more!
I agree, but they've been playing almost the exact same setlist for almost a year now.
They must be the only band that don't play a number one single on set list (when the sun goes down)
Apart from that i really enjoyed set list
@@peterf08 they’re getting to the point now though that some popular older songs have to be dropped to make way for the new ones, but yeah When The Sun Goes Down is a must play for Glasto I think!
@@sanjaypanchalmusic ye im getting old bro think i prefer their new stuff now, the old stuff will always hold special place for me but i tend to listen to newer stuff now
People who only like the first two albums are not real fans - they're people that like pop music, and so enjoyed those albums when they were top of the charts.
What the band should do, is start removing songs from WPSIATWIN, FWN and AM, and include more from the other albums.
It was appalling how few songs from TBHC were included in this tours setlist.
FYI - I was at the emirates, and thought the atmosphere was shit. Too many people waiting for dancefloor, and too many people standing motionless when a tune like Pretty Visitors kicks in.
I was seated and was surprised at how many people new some of the newer tunes, but you’re right - if AM played TBHC and The Car in full then I’d pay to see that! I don’t think they ever will considering the reaction those newer songs get, which is sad!
Wasn't the car in the setlist instead of mardy bum?🤔
Nah they played mardy bum at Glasto
Muse have headlined Glastonbury 3 times by the way
Cheers for letting me know!
@@sanjaypanchalmusic no worries great video ! Agree with pretty much everything - although it took me seeing them live to fully appreciate the car which in turn led me back to tranquility base hotel
Muse headlined in 2004, 2010 and 2016.
I saw them at reading 2022 and the crowd was only there for their hits and downright toxic. 16 year olds who just got their results and pilled out their faces. So I decided to see a more intimate gig in Sheffield the following year. Much to my surprise, the atmosphere was similar if not worse. There were people quite vocal about how shit their new stuff was even though they literally played all of their hits as well as some curveballs. When they played Do I wanna know? After perfect sense, Someone vocally exclaimed “that’s more like it”. It confuses me why you’d pay £80+ to see a band you don’t fully understand nor appreciate.
This was to bite them in the arse unintentionally when they played sculptures (which kind of makes fun of those kind of fans) with some people trying to sing along. I think he got them there!
Although I love everything they bring out, some people don’t. And that’s fine. You don’t have to listen to them. But it doesn’t stop them voicing their opinion of them like it’s a negative. The glasto set was underwhelming for people, despite them playing all of their hits. You will never please everyone, much less arctic monkeys “fans” it would seem.
Good point - why would you spend £80+ to see a band whose last 2 albums you haven’t actually had the patience or open mindedness to listen to - some people!
Personally just feel like they have settled with roughly the same repetitive set since the AM tour with the occasional switch up.
I understand all the defences you give, but in my opinion, the other two Glastonbury performances were incredibly better in so many ways.
If you watch the first two, and then watch this one, i don't think its even with in question which was more right.
I don’t think it’s their best headline performance by any means - agree that 2013 was better. I do think the level of criticism is unfair though - blown way out of proportion!
Muse have headlined 3 times and The Cure have headlined 4 times
Was a beautiful set don’t care nor does the band
I wasn’t at Glastonbury, but it would be so boring for a band to make albums that sound the same😅
Agree I think people need to get over the fact that the band have changed - the old stuff still exists!
Britain's greatest since...................... Oasis.... ........ .....
.....
Precisely
Coldplay isn't a rock band as much as radiohead isn't as well.
the only song they butchered are 505 and four out of five
Enjoyed the breakdown but please keep your hands still!! It’s so annoying and distracting.
Good content but stop moving ur hands the same way throughout pls. I can’t watch it anymore
