    I love the projects you did with the Dollar Tree products. Being able to see through them is beautiful!

    I make the Dollar Tree cutting boards with vinyl and sublimation and they are very vibrant. I love making them

      Nice! I’ve heard they fade and blur when washing. Have you found that to be true?

      I’ve heard even without washing the inks blur especially the black. What I have done is sublimate on the laminate and then add oracle permanent white vinyl on the back to make the imagine pop.

    Many years ago I started sublimating cutting boards. I watched some great videos on CZcams a few years back to learn how to sublimate cutting boards with Oracal 651 vinyl. Before using sublimation ready made cutting boards, (There may have been sublimation ready cutting boards, but it was not as big of a deal like it is now, so I never knew if they were around.) or before everyone started using laminate sheets for cutting boards. Yes, you can sublimate on Oracal 651 vinyl. It is permanent, it is for outdoors, it is also water proof. I have some that I have made years ago. I have washed them in the dishwasher, and by hand many, many times over the years. This month, I made 2 Christmas themed cutting boards out of laminate to see what all the fuss was about. One for hand washing, one for dish washing. Just to see what would happen. 4 washes in the dishwasher and the laminate was laying at the bottom of my dishwasher. I really thought that it would come off in the first wash so I was kind of surprised by this. The hand wash cutting board took till my Christmas party that was on the 20th of December. I made them the first week of December. So about 2-3 weeks of hand washing. Also the day of my party the cutting board prob got washed by hand like 10 times. I think the laminate sheets are great if you are using the cutting boards for more decor items, just to sit around the house. It is good to use if you are making a sun catcher with it as long as you are not using the laminate outdoors. If the laminate can not make it through the dishwasher it can not make it through the bad weather. I did make some sun catcher cutting boards for indoor use only. I made sure to use a UV spray because you will have problems with the sun fading your colors. Anyway this is one way I sublimate cutting boards. Oracal 651 vinyl for me!!! :)

      Good to know! I know people have had mixed results with the vinyl which is why I opted for the laminate, but it's good to know that the Oracal 651 is a good option for people!

    Have you tried the double printing hack for the DT cutting boards to see if the colors are more vibrant?

      @HeyLetsMakeStuff  Před 5 měsíci +2

      I have not! It's definitely something that could be tested, though-I think it could work!

    I would like to try subbing on dollar glass cutting boards. What should I use with an easy press instead of the soft mat to give good pressure? It’s 5pm pst

      Try a wool pressing mat: amzn.to/3hztMaO (affiliate link)

    Have you found that tge laminate will blur over time just like the white vinyl?

    • @HeyLetsMakeStuff
      @HeyLetsMakeStuff  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I’ve read it blurs less, but I haven’t washed mine to the point where they are blurring.

    Can you use self-adhesive laminated sheets? I took off from work today, bought the dollar tree glass cutting boards, and now that I watched a couple videos I'm seeing that the laminated sheets are not the self-adhesive ones that I currently have.

    • @HeyLetsMakeStuff
      @HeyLetsMakeStuff  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I'm not sure! It would be something you'd have to test. My biggest fear is that the adhesive in the self-adhesive ones wouldn't be able to withstand the heat of the sublimation process because they aren't meant to be heated to adhere the laminate itself.

    You mentioned a kit that can make the dollar tree boards into sunbathers. Do you have the link for that? Thank you!

    I messed up and used yellow sub tape and it burned the colour yellow into the sides of the board where it lay🥲 An A4 on a larger board.

    • @HeyLetsMakeStuff

      I always tell people to throw that yellow tape directly in the trash! It can ruin a project :(

    My issue with the laminate version, is you are not sublimating a cutting board, as much as you are putting a clear sticker on 1 side. It is not durable or usable as a cutting board, because the required washing is going to ruin that laminate.

      @HeyLetsMakeStuff  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Can I use infusible ink on the glass cutting board?

    • @LithosAndLasers
      @LithosAndLasers Před 6 měsíci

      Infusable in is just a Cricut name brand for Sublimation, so YES, but you will still be subbing on transparency sheet, or on the actual sublimatable cutting board. @@yolandabranner6200
