I'm in love
Great review, I'm going to retire my 25 year old JB pump 😢 and was contemplating the Fieldpiece unit. Thanks for doing the review! Have a great 4th of July.
Good review bud. I heard about that board issue. To be honest that’s the o my reason I held off but I think I’m gonna grab 2 of them. One for me and let another one of my techs have one who has an older pump. Thing looks awesome I can’t wait to try it out
Thanks for the support bro!!
HVAC in SC Always my friend!!!

+Michael Lee Thanks Michael!
I ordered a brand new VP85 and straight out of the box the oil door was cracked and would not shut. It was packaged correctly and i feel like it was actually packaged with a broken door from the factory. It should have never been packaged if it was quality checked. Very cheaply made door. Now i have to send it back and wait for a new one already.
Really looks like as great new product. We have several of the older versions and I like being able to change the oil quickly.Good thorough review.
Thanks for watching Tony!!
Ive had mine for two months now and I love it. Paired it with two appion 1/4 to 3/8 hoses and it rocks!
Good review. Seems another great feature is the small amount of oil it uses. Should get 4 oil changes on a quart if I’m reading the data correct.
Yes it does use a very small amount of oil which I look at as a good and bad thing. Good for the reason you touched on, bad because I typically have to replace the oil at least once during almost every evacuation. Then again once evac is complete. I'd personally like just a bit more oil so I could just change the oil after most evacuations.
Good review.
+Nor-Cal Refrigeration & H.V.A.C Thanks Dave!
Bradley gives you real reviews👍 I'm proud of ya my boy😸👌
😁😁 Thanks Pops!! I was raised well on these mean streets of CZcams 🤣🤣
Whats the other cap next to the oil cap?
Dont try and cut corners on this one. Go ahead and spend the money and buy at least this or a upper model. This will be one of the best and most important tool you'll buy.
This was the upper model 4 years ago when i made the video.
Nice review. It looks like they thought of everything. I like all the Fieldpiece stuff I have but, this is a little too fancy for me! Not that I'm in the market for a pump; the YJ Bullet is still pulling strong. The footprint is pretty much a dealbreaker, imo. Looks like its bigger than the G5 recovery machine and that just seems silly.
I just bought vp55 how often i need replace oil? Thanks for the video
It’s been for months now how is this vacuum pump holding up. And after four months of use what do your guys think about using it? Is it their first go to pump? or do they use it as a back up pump?
If you use "big hoses" to pull the vacuum, can you "get away with" using a smaller pump?
Absolutely! Most vacuum pumps are drastically oversized anyways. A 5 cfm vacuum pump for instance is good for evacuating up to a 25 ton system.
Seen another issue about the plug falling off. The owner had to purge with nitrogen and it released the motor. It seems that the plug falling off causes the motor to become bound up somehow. Once they did this, it was fine. I am considering one of the 8 cfm pumps myself, but a coworker of mine has the appion tez 8 and swears by it. I have the fieldpiece recovery machine and love love love it. Have you tried the tez 8 vacuum pump? Do you have a preference between the vp85 and tez 8? Thanks for your videos.
Tru Tech Tools best in the game
Doesn't your gauge have to be the farthest away from the pump?
It doesn't have to be if you perform a proper decay test but it's far more ideal.
Hi I have a question can you use JB Industry Black Gold oil in FP vacuum pumps or it has to be FB oil only
Yes you can.
Thank you
Anybody have one of these out of warranty that locks up just like described? Our wire is still on the board but the unit is completely dead except for the lights. Not even 2 yrs old.
Try contacting Fieldpiece. They have very good customer service. Even if warranty has expired.
@@HVACinSC I did talk with the local rep multiple times. Maybe I should take it higher in the chain
Yeah. The local reps and distributors. are typically no help in those situations.
A better mousetrap?
these air om can do recovery and vacuum no need eider vacuum pump
This is a vacuum pump, not a Recovery Machine.
Brad have you tried a NAVAC pump yet?
Hey James. I have not had the opportunity to try any NAVAC products yet.
JamesBowmanHVAC I couldn't find your email but I sent you my info in a LinkedIn message.
The LED lights didn't come on, on the oil viewing window. Brand new out of the box.
Nice review. I hate Fieldpiece has a crappy warranty or I would consider one.
I've had good experiences with Fieldpiece. Not so great with fluke
🤟🏼
Wow that’s a fine looking pump.👍🏼 How much do these retail for? Thank you for the review and video. 🤙🏽
+Dirtbags HVAC Thanks for watching. Between $450 - $550 depending on where you purchase it.
Just paid 515 for mine
Of all tools I buy, fieldpiece has the absolute worse customer service. We have one vp85 and I dread the day something fails on it.
