- This video shows you how to clear out an obstructed fuel filter in your Jet Boil Mini Mo. The same obstruction may occur in other newer Jetboil model stoves like the Micro Mo as well.
I have an older flash that doesn't disassemble. I took the burner assembly and turned it upside down, filled the fuel portal with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol not isobutane) and turned the on off valve from full open to off several times. Bubbles came out and the burner head started to sweat the isopropyl. I dried it out and it worked. It was an easy field fix that doesn't require tools. Happy camping everyone.
Man- I know this is a year old, but you just saved me some money. I appreciate the effort and video. Thank you ✌️
Hey, glad the trick still works!
Thank you so much! I had this exact same issue (which I found out about in the middle of a backpacking trip, RIP) and this fixed it immediately
Awesome! So glad it helped!
Thx a lot for the introductions! My minimo fuel line was obstructed too and following your instructions made it work again! Much appreciate the details provided in this video, great job!
Great to hear! So glad it was of use to you.
Thank you for making this video! We’ve had this minimo sitting on the shelf for a few years now. Your fix worked like a charm! Blessings to you on your next adventures!
Glad it helped! So nice to keep gear from going in the landfill.
Cheers! My brass fitting had a bit of gunk covering the top, bit of ultra fine steel wool to the top and then took out the filter bit and poked at it with a sewing needle to clear the tiny hole and all good now! Piezo sparks but doesn’t light, a lighter does the trick
Bro thanks For this video I thought my shit was broken o know fuel wasn’t coming out Try this fix lit up like a Christmas tree working just as good when I bought it Thanks for this video man
So glad you’re back in the saddle.
Another success, thanks so much! Again, it seems it just needed a wipe down and then started working a treat.
Awesome! Glad it was of use!
Thank you for the video! I was able to get a $50 one of these clogged from REI ($150 new) from a garage sale. This was able to fix it! I could see from the bolt that the poor person was not able to open the bolt with pliers. Thankfully I had a 6mm socket wrench like @Jaewoong Jung
suggested and was able to crack it open and get it working
That's awesome. The garage sale is the way to go if you are a decent troubleshooter.
For other viewers, a 6mm socket wrench does a perfect job of opening the nozzle. Also, I just wiped the gray residue out with a finger instead of trimming the filter, and it works fine now.
Awesome! Glad it worked and thanks for the 6mm info.
Depending on the model you have, the heat shield has a spot cut out that fits it perfectly also. It's right next to the burner, I think it's for the ignitor, bit fits that also.
@@wildfire925 Super awesome. Thanks for that insightful info. I had no idea!
Thank you! My bolt was too tight for my pliers to work and the socket wrench was perfect for the job
Thanks for making this video! This fixed mine that had same problem. It had a grey buildup on the filter
Glad it helped
Thanks from the uk
Welcome!
Thank you, man! That was my problem.
Awesome! So glad it was a quick fix.
This might help other troubleshooters: The flame on my Mini Mo was erratically slipping out the sides and melting the sleeve, burning inefficiently. I snipped the filter as suggested and still no luck. I used an air compressor and blasted the little perforated top element a few times (with the stove OFF) and now she’s running good again.
That exact thing happened to my friend. That is so good to know that it’s a matter of cleaning out the perforations. It makes total sense that if they are obstructed, the flame will decide to look elsewhere. Thank you so much for that excellent info!
Good work bro! Gracias y saludos desde Patagonia argentina
Muchas gracias hermano! Espero verte allí abajo algún día.
Thanks! This fixed my MiniMo perfectly. I'm still worried it might reoccur though. Has yours been fine since then?
That's great news. My Mini Mo has had no problems since then.
Mine hasn't had a problem since but I think that even if you took the filter out, the stove would still work fine. You could also just keep trimming the filter or put your own filter in?
Thanks for this, it has revived my jetboil, thought it was broken. Do anyone know if your can get replacement filters? I suppose you could use cigarette filters cut down at a push?
I think a cig filter is worth a try. They seem pretty similar. Glad it got your stove back on the trail.
Thanks for posting this. I was able to fix my Jetboil Zip with the same problem. I was wondering how harmful it would be to just leave the filter off. I don’t think I’d be able to fix this in the field and I’ve heard other stoves don’t even have filters inside the jet. what do you think?
I think it would be fine without the filter. If the particulate matter was that small, I think it would send it right through to the burner and it would be a non issue.
I tested mine without the filter and it was fine.
@@outdoorgearrepair9187 great thanks for the input. I’ve heard of others doing the same taking it off. Apparently, other brand stoves don’t even use these filters.
@@outdoorgearrepair9187 did you notice the burn being stronger without the filter or no difference?
@@TheJosephReyes Didn't really notice any observable difference in mine.
Had same problem with my flash I'll have a go on mine see if it works.
Hope it works! Fingers crossed.
@@jessemaloney8960 it worked buddy the filter was blocking the gas it works fine now.
@@willspinks2007 Awesome!
I have a sumo that is getting gas through and when i push the igniter it arcs but it doesn't ignite the burner. any thoughts on this matter?
It may be as easy as adjusting the piezo. If you have an older style one, try pulling the piezo wire a little further out if it is pushed close to the burner or vice versa if it is bent too far away. On the newer models, you can also adjust the metal sled slightly if needed.
To test if it is the piezo wire, try lighting your burner with a lighter to ensure you have gas flow to the burner. If so, it’s most likely the piezo wire.
@@gotimejessemaloney5999 cool I will try that. What is the metal sled??
@@alexalvarez9462 On the newer piezos, there is flat metal peice that causes the spark. They are unlike the old wires. They are lower profile therefore reducing the chance of them catching on things.
What happens if you just don't use the regulator?
The fuel seems to go through the regulator so I don't think there is a way to bypass it. Not sure if that is what you meant?
