    My brother and I were there specifically to see Del and the boys after a long day hiking in Brown County State Park and canoeing the Blue River (in the rain). Greatest music event I've ever attended or ever will attend! New Delheads, both of us. Love the Bill Monroe facilities and festival (second year). Goodness, a Del and Bill mix that night...wow. Alan hit it out of the park with his Kentucky Waltz that evening; well done! Thanks for filming and posting this and letting us relive that great Indiana summer evening. Semper Del.

    This is the way it is supposed to be done. Notice the dynamics the band uses. Most bands out there do not understand this. Del's band moves in and out with their instruments to make the singer sound better and to create a great overall tight band sound with no one overriding the other. When one instrument needs to stand out or back up the singing it is done with perfection.

    What a show. Hooked on the sequence from 16:30 Lime House Blues (gorgeous) 18:45 to Nashville Cats (written by John Sebastian) 23:17 (with those vocal harmonies & leading to the incredible - the bass slap > fiddle crack > banjo - instrumental ending beginning at 22:10), Cotton-eyed Joe (Jason Carter on fire) & 26:06 Kentucky Waltz w. Alan Bartram worthy of Keith Whitley. Del just masterful throughout, laughing at his own jokes like at 29:39 and 39:19.

  • @mandoist
    @mandoist Před 5 lety +1

    Trivial Trivia: Actually... Monroe's first instrumental ever recorded was "Katy Hill" on Bluebird Records (1940).
    First recorded mandolin instrumental was "Tennessee Blues" on Bluebird Records (1940) - same session as Katy Hill.
    "Bluegrass Breakdown" was the 6th recorded instrumental on Columbia Records (1948).
