Sorry Phil, I did film more of the island after the activation but I had a problem with the camera. I didn’t notice I somehow put it in to slow motion mode. I tried to reset it in the edit but it was very jerky and painful to watch, hence I cut it short. Apologies…
I will return one day Bill and do a longer activation on 40m and give people a heads up. I never plugged it on the WAB FB page as I was only going to be active on 20m…
Thanks for the brief tour of Northey Island and a touch of English history. After looking up the Causeway to the island on Google Earth, I could see exactly where you went on the island. I panned back and realized how close your home area is to the Channel and opposite of Holland, where my ancestors came from in the 1600s. There are still families with my brother Dirck's name in the city of Leiden. We even look Hollish! My wife's family originated in Wales. Small world, eh? --Steven, AG7SS, Salem, Oregon
Hi Steven, continental Europe is only about 70 miles away from the coast of Essex so it’s quite easy to work into France, the Netherlands and Belgium on VHF and UHF. I ought to make a video of me trying to make some contacts into the continent as we have a few places local to me that have a good take off. Watch this space😉

@@XRQ9simplex more likely Steven. I’m, not one for using repeaters although you can hear repeaters occasionally coming in from the continent. My old QTH had a fantastic take off to the south and east so when there was a lift on I could work into Belgium and France on 2m FM just using a collinear and 5-10w. I have a three element beam I could use, Yaesu FT-857 has 2m SSB. We have a 2m contest coming up on September 7/8 which would be a good time to try it.
