As I always write people who react to this song: I love how Side Effects represents the cycle of anxiety (mental health problems in general) & not only in the lyrics. It builds up & gets louder, faster and a lot of optical stimuli that feels kinda crushing come into play ... until you can't take it anymore & it errupts in screaming & letting out the frustration. Than it's a moment of silence & you think "It's over", only to start again right after.

Angry? "Side Effects". Happy? "Side Effects". Hyped? "Side Effects". Anxious? "Side Effects",
This song truly just encompasses EVERYTHING for me. For myself at least, it doesn't matter what the emotion is, if I am overstimulated (and as someone who suffers from anxiety, PTSD and ADHD, it is often the case) this song, beat, and droning voice in the back of the chorus just ticks all of my 'yes' boxes. It's a masterpiece. Only comparable with their track "Tortoise and the Hare".

Medications often cause irritation. It's a "side effect" of both anxiety and depression medications.
When Chan had Chan's Room going, he used to discuss Stays' problems with them, bc he's been in the industry so long, he has first-hand knowledge of the most common mental issues teens and young adults suffer from. He's lost friends to these problems bc they just couldn't take it anymore.

Also, day 3 requesting Miroh! Which is crazy cause it’s not even my favorite song but I really think you’d like it! Hopefully this gets the most likes 🤞🏻

The 2023 Guide to Stray Kids is a quick and easy way to match names to faces and what their main role in the group… “main” because they ALL sing, ALL dance, ALL rap and ALL have songwriting credits ( but not all are involved in production). And, no you don’t have Felix down😂 These songs you have been reacting to come from different times and the guys change hair colors a lot so it can be pretty confusing at first.

It's the first psytrance song in kpop and it got so much hate. It's such a great song about mental health. I love how much they experiment with genres. They have >40 genres in their discography.

Yes, this track is a kind of unspoken answer to the haters. At that time, the guys' music was disliked and misunderstood at home, for its harsh, noisy sound, not typical for Korea. Haters complained that Stray Kids music was a headache. But the guys never went along with the industry and did not adjust to the norms of k-pop sound, and after all this haight, they released "side effects" - the toughest-sounding song at that time, where the line "I have a headache" in the chorus. Thus, they showed that they do not intend to adapt to someone and will always do what they like. 👍🏻

When you hear many kpop songs, they are more on the pop side, then you have a young group that releases Side Effects and I can only imagine the guts and confidence this group had to release something so edgy. For me, this song is art, the beat, the melody, their voices, choreography, I love everything about it.
Because of songs like this, SKZ remind me of another legendary group from the second generation that also dared to go where no other group dared to go, that is BIGBANG. I have the highest respect for both of these groups.

From left to right: Changbin (fast rapper), Woojin (no longer with the group), Han (other main rapper), Lee Know, Hyunjin, Bang Chan (the leader who may look like Felix with the blonde hair). I.N., Felix (deep voice), and Seungmin. Thanks for the reaction! I enjoy watching people react and getting to know such a wonderful group!

Hopefully someone told you, but SKZ have their *SKZverse*
It is an actual storyline in theis songs, where main story goes from Hellevator to God's Menu (though it vaguely continues to newer albums as well)
Side Effects is a biggest crossroad in their storyline. It's where skz decided to make their own path, not follow the norm - Path not taken (as you said they are in the middle of nowhere). But going such an unknown path has some problems. Basically they get lost, their road is blocked, they don't know what to do. They are realising they were overconfident, stupidly believing in themselves, which led them to this difficult situation where they don't know what to do. Their side effects of too much confidence is doubting themselves.
(also, the entering k-pop industry is already covered in Hellevator and District 9. This song is about being original and true to your own music style instead of following the standard k-pop norms)
If you go through all songs in order starting Hellevator (also check lyrics only songs as lyrics are important to the story), you will learn what this is about. The storyline is not some created story but their own journey and feelings portrayed through songs. Album trailers are also very important.
Themes to keep in mind: parallel universes, multiple copies of members, different possible choices, cameras, surveillance, keys.

You can never memorize a member by their hairstyle or hair color. In Thunderous, Felix has 4 different hairstyles/hair colors. They change them often.

Color coded lyric videos are a good way to help pick up the individual voices! Hall of fame doesn’t have a mv but I would suggest a color coded lyric video

It's the first song in KPop to use Psytrance genre
Yes react to all the Stray Kids things.
It's ok it takes a bit to learn all of their names and faces. That's where lyric videos help as well.

  • @SakkaraKirax
    @SakkaraKirax Před 2 měsíci +3

A lot of their early music has meanings specific to them, like the kpop industry, but also a broader meaning about growing up. Almost all of them were still teenagers here. This song and video can be seen as talking about the difficulties of growing up and trying to be your own person when you suddenly have all these other voices around you, trying to influence you, and being able to find yourself in the midst of everything that might want you to be someone you're not. They're trying to fight the side effects of being pushed or pulled in one direction or another by others' expectations or the need to fit in. The path they want to take is blocked, so instead of turning around and giving up, they go off the beaten path and make their own way to the destination they want, not the smoother road set out for them, despite the hardships.
When there is the split screen in the video, the top half represents the comfort and ease that would have been the easy path. They're in a bus, being driven in comfort by someone else. The other represents the harder path they chose, doing it their own way. (Their own path to debut was very different than most. Bangchan, the leader, chose the members himself, instead of it being done by the company. That is extremely rare. They also have been self-produced since even pre-debut. Also rare. They did not take the usual or expected path.)
A lot of Stray Kids lore is based around there being multiple versions of Stray Kids in different worlds or timelines. In this video you can see there are two moons, which can represent the different paths they could have taken, creating two different worlds. You will see these two moons in some other early videos of theirs, as well as the keys.

  • @AndThenWhat
    @AndThenWhat Před 2 měsíci +9

alternate universe, flipped, two opposite possibilities, it's a different version of them on the tour bus and the version on the black truck with all the problems, two versions, two moons in the beginning, it will make more sense if you get into the lore. This MV is very much a part of the storyline. Great song, also not on my regular playlist but every once in a while it's exactly what I need in the moment, if that makes sense.

  • @cicibingham6217

There are also album trailers that give hints about the concept, and they're like short films. My favorite is the Oddinary trailer.
There are also song spoilers, like the latest one of Mountains.
The keys and elevators have to do with their lore of multiple timelines and universes. Hellevator was the start of the elevator use, and the keys appear in many videos, like Double Knot and Chronosaurus. Clocks also play a role and all clocks seen in the videos usually are a date that's important to them. Sometimes you will see 325 in a video, like on the tunnel wall at the beginning of Maniac, or on the school bus in Lalalala. 325 was their debut date. You can also see it on the rice cooker timer on their Kingdom performance of God's Ddu Ddu Du.

With their older stuff, there is a 9th member who left in 2019, Woojin. So it makes it a little more confusing 😂 Woojin is the one singing 4:20 if you’re curious to try and not get confused. I had a hard time at first too. I remember thinking I got it then I watched Thunderous and their hair styles change a few times in that same video 😂 don’t worry, it’ll come.

" So far I've definitely got Felix down..." Lol 🤣
No worries...we've all been there. I got I.N and Lee Know confused for ages...now I just can't see how I made that mistake at all, they are so different. It takes time. It will help maybe if you watch Fam MV next and pause to absorb it. Also a guide is a good idea. Plus, some amazing songs have lyric videos only so they will help ( just bare in mind they aren't always 100% accurate).
Loving your reactions. Still think it might be better to enjoy the video first before trying to understand the lyrics...but it's up to you.
Btw, this song is sometimes like marmite for STAY some love it, others not so much, so no worries. My son listened in the car and said it made him stressed and was giving him a headache...I said that Stray kids are geniuses and have embodied the essence of the song. They INTENSIONALLY give you that stressed feeling and express that emotion in music. Mind blown again!

    • @SakkaraKirax
      @SakkaraKirax Před 2 měsíci

I said the same thing on another video, that it makes more sense to me to start with absorbing the music and visuals, then look at lyrics the second time round to add context to what you're seeing.
Also, I.N and Lee Know were the ones I kept mixing up for ages too. Bangchan, Seungmin and Felix were the first ones I could point to and reliably say who they were.

Love your reactions. My suggestions in order for reactions based on what you haven't reacted to yet are easy, venom, maniac, circus, red lights, and top line. However, you can't really go wrong with any of their songs. On a side note, their dance practices are amazing as well! Also, as a felix fan, his solo song deep end is fantastic. It really shows off his vocal range.

Thak you so much for keep reacting to the kids 😊 like a lot of you reactions
This song has an erly stage for them it was a very important step, since start on they always did what they like, and express what they are felling tru the music. And this whole album was about reminding the fanbase that they are kids in the industry, and that is stressful. The album touches aspects of lonlyness, anxiety and fanbase love, still keeping the image of uniqueness.
An kpop group that has an similar strong catch that stray kids have, its Ateez. From them i like the most "bouncy (k-red hot chili peppers)", but "guerrilla" changes your entire personality kkkkkkkk

Love to see your journey to discovering stray kids . They are my ultimate group. Stray kids is a legendary group with the most diverse discography. Stray kids are huge in the music industry. They are top producers . Only groups in k-pop that are self made ( chan picked the members) and self produced groups .
Recommended to watch and listen to the newest album ATE ,5 star,Rock Star albums and lose my breath, hall of frame ,FNF, item, leave ,cover me, the sound, super bowl, Youtiful, blind spot, time out and obviously S-Class, lalalala etc songs.
Soft song - never ending, winter fall,4419, spread my wings, 24 to 25, OH, leventer, blue print, Ex, red light, hoodie season, for you , lonely st, silent cry, charmer, on track, time out, novel , there, the view your eyes, blue print, star lost etc.
Brilliant song - venom, freeze, grrr, mirror, miroh, maze of memories, chronosaurus, 3racha side effect ,top, 3racha , slump, god's menu, thunderous, TA, cheese, muddy water, the sound, slump, top etc.
Old gems - hellevator, district 9, my pace, awkward silence,19, road not taken, boxer, question,M.I.A,get cool,I am you , yayaya, grow up , stop, booster, astronaut, maze of memories, side effects, mixtape 1,2,3,4, entrance, hero's soup,my side etc.
From start to now they give so many beautiful songs.
People need to watch the intro of each album to know how they come up with the idea and concept and meaning behind the song and all details and work they do on every song.
Stray kids are known for the quality of music and dedication for music. They are very creative and unique and versatile. Stray kids is inspiring to so many people. Their music is something connected with people .They give motivation, inspiration to express yourself it's ok to be unique You are beautiful the way you are. stray kids discography is very diverse with life philosophy.
I describe stray kids music is
    "EXPRESSION OF LIFE"
EXPRESSION OF PEOPLE" "EXPRESSION OF EMOTIONS"
Lyrics are beautifully expressed with so many meanings .
They have a diverse discography. I love the intellect, cleverness and creativity in songs. They have a very organic, fresh and unique sound. They didn't limited themself and explore the new side of music. You see so many new, refreshing and experimental sounds in their music. They explore different genres and express different emotions and touch so many important subjects like social pressure , anxiety, mental health, loneliness, depression insomnia etc.
They break many stereotypes in music. The more you listen to them the more you admire and become addicted to them and respect them more as artists. The music they made is connected with people with beautiful messages , inspiration and motivation . ❤❤

A lot of STAYS are ATINYS also (Ateez Fan name) like i am, we call ourselves STAYTINYS 😅. They debuted the same year as SKZ. You should start with BOUNCY, GUERRILLA, HALAZIA, HALA HALA & WORK as a starting point 😊
