You did not mess up the threads that’s the way it is. I have one the same thing and it is kind of stupid to have a plastic yellow cap when the pump or the reservoir is Metal so don’t worry you’re doing a good job big daddy.
I am so relieved I found this video! We just got one and the oil tank was completely different from what the pic in the user guide was. Ours looks like yours. And I was panicking that I was putting oil in the wrong place because the oil level did not rise with the tiny bottle. So I wanted to be sure I was right before I put more in. *whew* Thanks!
