I can't really say that it reminds me of Minecraft much on its own, if at all- it's really the context of Notch making it that calls to mind my favorite blocky game. If it were, say, the devs for Slime Rancher or Concerned Ape, Minecraft wouldn't really come to mind other than my standard internal comparisons for textures. Feeling like Minecraft 2 is an extreme stretch of a comparison tbh
Notch doesn't even want to break the internet again anyways. He just wants to make games, and this video and another one I found is just both clickbaity and contributing to expectations that ARE GOING TO fall flat
Ayo Slime Rancher mentioned! anyways, yea that's what I've been thinking too. people would only see it as "Minecraft 2" since it contains pixels or voxels. apparently the internet associates pixels or voxels with Minecraft and not the other way around. take the whole argument of terraria being a "2D Minecraft" when reality they came out at around the same time and while the may feel similar in some aspects, they are vastly different in others. in fact they also acknowledge and respect each other's existence by having in their title flavor text saying to try out the other game. Terraria even has a creeper costume for the player to collect in game. very contrasting compared to their communities fighting over which one is better
4:53 I'm not sure if that'd be the case. Notch's primary contribution to OG Minecraft was terrain generation. While I could see him stepping out of his comfort zone for lightning tests, I think that's only happening with this new game thanks to a smaller team forcing him to.

0:57 Actually, Notch wasn't involved with the game since 2011 when 1.0 came out and he handed development over fully to Jeb. He still owned most of Mojang in 2014 yeah but that doesn't mean he was involved in the game anymore.
I remember the joke was that M$ paid $2.2b for Notch's hat and they got Minecraft for free....

I respect Notch for his contributions but as someone who started very early on and bought the game in beta I remember a lot of history. There were many things that were going to be added that never were. Ropes is the first thing that came to mind. A whole world of exciting possibilities were there-rope bridges, zip lines, pulley systems. Way in the future as time went on we got substitute items that offered some features-placeable string and leads for example. Chains got added for a decorating element that ropes would have done years prior. I don't have a lot of faith he is going to churn out another success after how he did minecraft, and as the community started to hold him to a standard and have expectations he sold out to Microsoft.

There is a guy called finalforeach who is making a game called Cosmic Reach which is very similar to what Notch is doing. Basically writing a voxel engine to use dynamic coloured lighting.

I really like this style for dungeon crawler games, never would play one myself, but love watching them. Hope it'll have character customization (or at least a bunch with random roll) vs default 1-4 characters to only pick from. Also curious to see if would be multiplayer or single player (playing 4 characters at once, like some I've seen) any case, the visual of it is lookin neat so far.

I think I remember hearing about notch the first time in 2015. Because I remember when I first discovered Minecraft I was watching popularMMOs and I used to see like notch every so often going against Herobrine and then eventually I looked into it and I was like oh that's the creator of the game!

I think that pink thing was warden but his legs got cut and was pink. I think notch creating a lot dungeons and thing because everything was together the mobs and the ancestors became it look like he add every mob but is different color and shape because why add so much detail in block that show ancient things

To me it looks like some horror game in a "Ultrakill" formula with sandbox elements, like in Minecraft but you actually need to explore random gen.rooms to gather resources.
