  • After what was a great day in Jersey, it was time to head home to the mainland. There are a few options for this, direct flights back to Manchester with easyJet, connections through London with BA and some regional hops with Blue Islands. However in my mind, the only option even worth considering is Jet2's afternoon service back up to Leeds Bradford, main reason for this being the fact that it is virtually exclusively operated by their Boeing 737-300 fleet. Having flown the -300 five times previously with the most recent trip on G-GDFM being 9 years ago back in 2015, this was a no brainer.
We arrived at the airport around 2 hours prior to departure with the overall departure experience being very pleasant. Jersey Airport is very passenger friendly with plenty of space and facilities to accommodate a relatively small amount of people, my personal highlight being the viewing gallery where we spent some time awaiting our inbound aircraft G-GDFT, which had picked up a small delay departing LBA as a result of a medical emergency. Once the aircraft had arrived we promptly boarded via some ramp style airstairs and settled into the cabin of the 26 year old aircraft. We were ready to go around 15 minutes behind schedule and taxiied out for a spectacular Runway 08 takeoff over the island before turning North. Once at cruise I was served my pre-order Pepperoni Pizza Twist, a surprisingly tasty and flavourful snack which kept me occupied until we began our descent. We made a textbook approach and landing on Runway 32 and parked just over 5 minutes late which thanks to a well managed deboarding and arrival process, didn't have any negative impact on our onward travel plans.
So, as always a stellar flight with Jet2, ignoring the aircraft being a -300, the whole flight itself was excellent with a clean comfortable cabin that was in great condition, a fantastic crew who went above and beyond to look after all passengers, paying special attention to those passengers requiring special assistance. The onboard snack was really tasty and served promptly after departure. Going back to the aircraft itself, the ability to fly a scheduled passenger flight on a classic 737 domestically in the UK in 2024 for under £50 made this a must do, a flight I'll most likely do again at some point in the future!
