  • Eye issues, including amblyopia (lazy eye) and anisometropia, can be related to torticollis. Torticollis may cause eye issues, and eye issues may cause torticollis. Watch my video from my CZcams channel ‪@MyTorticollisBaby‬ to learn more about my daughter's experience with torticollis possibly causing anisometropia and amblyopia. Also, learn about our successful experience treating her eye issues with glasses and vision therapy.

Thank you for sharing. It’s helped a lot. We were very depressed when daughter have torticollis. 1st time parent, so wasn’t aware, and still blaming myself. Ongoing physio, probably never end, and was told she was never going to be normal (slight head tilt). And thank you for the headups, need to get her eyes checked too when she start kinder soon. Love the work you do, please don’t stop!

Aw, I'm sorry. I remember when my daughter first received the diagnosis and how upset I felt. But this is not your fault. Your daughter is blessed to have you as such caring parent that is taking her to physical therapy. I'm so glad you find the content on My Torticollis Baby helpful!

Don’t blame yourself!!! It’s more common than you think, and sometimes there are contributing factors that we don’t know about or can’t control.

In other words how or why did she have a difference in refractive error? Might be something blocking her optic nerve or something behind the eye. Blunt trauma to the eye early on?

Thanks for your channel. My question is if your daughter’s torticollis has been resolved early, why she had the eye issue?

    Hi :-)
Thanks for sharing your Blog about Torticollis, really helpful!!
Do you know if the eye problems you mentioned will occur in every torticollis kid?
Thanks and all the best to you and your daughter!

Hi Sun Mao! Great question. No, the eye problems I mentioned don't happen to every child with torticollis. There can be an association of torticollis and eye issues, but that is not the case for every child with torticollis. My suggestion would be to take a child with torticollis to an eye doctor for a full eye exam and explain to the eye doctor that the child has torticollis so the doctor can look out for eye conditions that can be linked to torticollis.

Do the doctors know/speculate when these eye issues arose? Since you had taken her to the eye doctor when she was younger, and it sounds like there were no issues then. Had you noticed anything (in retrospect) out of the ordinary prior to the diagnosis?
Also, when did she no longer have torticollis? Just curious on how long it took for her to improve after PT was started post-diagnosis.

No, the eye doctor didn't speculate of when these eye issues arose. My best recommendation would be to take your child to an eye doctor shortly after a torticollis diagnosis and see eye doctor for yearly check-ups afterwards (if that's what the eye doctor recommends). I wish we had went back for yearly checkups between her initial visit (before 1 yr old) and her 5 yr old visit. We may of caught her eye issues earlier if we were doing yearly checkups.
My daughter started torticollis treatment at 7 months, and she was considered torticollis-free by 3 years old. Here's a blog post I have about it: mytorticollisbaby.blogspot.com/2016/02/torticollis-update-or-lack-thereof.html

I am an adult with torticollis and amblyopia, where I aniso different degree of astigmatism in each eye. What scares me is why? Is it because my muscles are blocking or pinching a nerve in the eye or damage in birth causing such astigmatism. It’s a serious question in why torticollis causes astigmatism? That’s the question.

What does your ophthalmologist and/or optometrist share with you his/her opinion about the cause for you? If so, what is their theory?

@@MyTorticollisBaby I don’t know I haven’t asked. I never thought torticollis and visión corilates with each other so I didn’t ask. Until now I saw your video I’m concerned that I may have a pinched vessel or nerve. Torticollis itself is rare.

@@HACKS886 If you are concerned, I would recommend making an appointment with your eye doctor. My child's eye doctor wasn't worried, especially as there were things we could do to treat her amblyopia (for example, glasses, patching, & vision therapy). The glasses and vision therapy really made a significant difference for my daughter. I pray that you will find some answers that will bring you peace.

My daughter is doing well. She will likely always need glasses with a slightly different prescription to help her weaker eye, but she has made enough improvement in vision therapy to not need it anymore. She gets an eye exam yearly and her progress maintains stable over the years.
