Rick Gore discusses what is a Mustang Horse with his horse Tanner, an 18 year old Mustang that was caught in the wild, in the hills of Nevada. Tanner was caught by helicopter when he was about one year old. The BLM brand on the left side of the neck is also discusses. www.thinklikeahorse.org
Mr. T is simply magnificent. I'm so sorry you lost him, but equally glad that you gave him such a good horsey life.
HaHa I've been going back looking at older video's also because I just recently started watching the channel . Sad vid when he lost MrT . I'm glad he didn't have to use his side arm .
Am I the only one enjoying these old ones of Mr.T ? He was sure a beautiful horse. Thanks Rick and rip Tanner. Joyce in Newman ca
Na, I've seen several comments from the last week in these old videos. Looks like a lot of us are missing good ol' Mr. T. He was such a great horse.
Nope.
This video popped up in my feed today. Mr. T was a great horse who never lost his mustang spirit, right up to that sad day when he passed. Rick took good care of him. Anyone who subscribes to Rick’s channel misses seeing him out in his field, keeping Buddy in line.🐎 🐴 🥕 🥕 🥕 🍎 🍎 🍎 😢
i agree have seen other mustangs tanner is the most beautiful
Look how full and beautiful Mr T was. Thick neck and proud, beautiful face. What a massive loss. RIP TANNER.
I know, he was a unit! Glad to finally see the brand markings up close here too; I always tried to make them out in newer videos.
I am still able to get my Tanner fix here, watching old videos.
It’s just so very sad. His passing has had such an impact on me considering I don’t ride horses and never met Mr T!
I agree, so many people loved him.
@@nickynoo5183 He became like apart of our families, especially because a lot of us have been watching for 10+ years. Mr T meant a lot to a lot of people and I’m thankful to Rick for sharing his and his animals lives with us. Mr T saved a lot of horses and was the best teacher of the horse. RIP.
Right!!?? One of a kind horse right here💛
Tonight I am so glad you left this video up from 2009.
I’m here for that reason too
I take my hat off and salute you. You were breathtakingly beautiful, so very clever you never missed anything, and I will always remember you fondly. RIP Mr T 💗💗💗
@TheCoolProfessor : A horse can carry 20 percent of it's weight comfortable, so if the horse is 1000 pounds, 200 pounds would be fine (including saddle and gear). This is a average and not a rule.
Thank you, Rick, for not removing your videos. They are so informative and so right on!
please KEEP UPLOADING MORE HORSE VIDEOS RICK!!!
Rick is awesome with horses
I'm soo happy to see a young Tanner ..he is gorgeous..and he is so lucky to have you who loves n cares for him like you do and gives him the freedom to do what horses do..I'm so happy I came across your video's...thanks Rick for helping me better understand horses 🐎🐎
So nice hearing you sing Mr. T ‘s praises. It’s a long list for sure!
This came up today 🥰and stopped for minute to reflect on the many lessons Tanner taught us thru your videos, God bless T, and much thanks for your channel!
OMG! These videos are made when I first started watching Rick. Damn, time flies.
Sure, he thinks he lets me ride him, very proud horse. :)
I love my yearling Mustang filly! I might be adopting an adult one next week! Thank you for inspiring me to adopt one of my own. Taloa, my Mustang, has been an amazing teacher!
Oh my gosh Rick! This just showed up on my feed! I've been watching you for a couple of years, but never saw any videos from 10 years ago like this! Mr. T and Buddy both look so young! ❤
Damn look at you handsome cowboy! We only get the tshirt and crocs nowadays lol
Carrie Stanford that’s funny!!!
My mustang is from Nevada and was captured at the age of one to. Although he's only 2 now but hes great. Love how you explain how diffrent they can be, people seem to never understand when I try to tell them. Great video
I can’t believe he’s gone
Mr.T was magnificent horse, RIP
Such a good Boy you are Tanner. So glad you and Dad found each other.....
I loved the look back when Mr T was 17,he was "the horse"!
its so cool that tanner is part draft part mustang!!! tanner was very lucky when rick saved him from the slaughterhouse and gave him a 2nd chance at life and a easy retirement!! id bet tanner is very happy to have rick, buddy, and smokey in his life :)
I haven't seen these videos. Really well done. Fun to see Tanner as a young buck!!! Beautiful boy!!!!
its so cool that tanner is part draft part mustang :)
rachel Ames hope this is a joke
...
no doubt one of the best breeds out there
long live mustang!!!!
@TheDylan222222 : Actually a horse is ONE horse power and that is how it all started. 10 horses pulling a wagon is "10 Horse power". As for the Mustang being a car, many have name different things after the wild Mustang to associate it with their speed, ability, wildness, strength and durability. Colt firearms came for the horse and they make a small powerful model called a Mustang. Look at the Levis' logo, it is two horses pulling to show the strength of the jeans.
Aaaahhh MR T looked so young! And Rick you were so professional hahaha retirement has certainly let you go free hahaha
I like the sound of "easy keepers" lol. That's exactly what I'm looking for on my small three acres.
Tanners looking to see who your talking to, so darn sweet, 🦅❤️
So cools to c Mr t as a youngster rip Mr t
Love your horse. I just ran into a horse in tennessee, who was left behind and abandoned. He was super shy and didn't like anyone but when I saw him, he just started loving on me. He was smelling me, licking the sweat off me, and he was just let me scratch him all over. The problem was he had a scar on his nose and hind leg and flies were just going at him. The good thing was he wasn't skinny, but only had rain water to drink. I wish I could have took him home, he was such a good young boy.
R.I.P. Mr. T 💜💜💜
Rick was so young! Mr. T is a GOOD BOY!!! Buddy Too!
Good old video ,,, love the Mr T and Buddy Show featuring side show Rick ,,,,, always informative and entertaining , Mr T and Buddy you're good boys thanks for the videos....
Mr T totally has a lil Friesian in him. He’s such a handsome boy. Where was he caught? He looks like a grown up version my new baby.

Think Like A Horse aw I love Mr T. My little filly is from the same area. Mr. T is one lucky horse. I’m glad he has a happy home.

I would of been 3 or 4. now I'm 15
Horses, puppies, chickens... If you love animals of any sort and live in the USA PLEASE READ!
If you truly care about horses, then you'll go sign these petitions against the 'King Amendment' to the upcoming 'Farm Bill'. This would further those industries that are pushing to legalize and popularize horse slaughter for consumption, as well as overturn on a federal level many laws passed by various states that have made leaps and bounds in the cause against animal cruelty, affecting things like the standards that breeders and puppy mills are supposed to be upheld to, the treatment of egg laying hens, and many others. (Also keep in mind, these industries buy pre-owned horses, young and old, healthy and sick, but many of them Vetted, and so are no longer safe for human consumption due to chemicals used in horse vaccines.)
Please, read about it on viable sites like:
- www.humanesociety.org/issues/confinement_farm/king-amendment.html, and - www.huffingtonpost.com/bruce-friedrich/steve-king-the-tea-party-_b_3969209.html . And do even more research!
Please, call your representative and spread the word against this!
Also please call Louisiana Senator Mary Landreu, as she is very much involved in this process and has a staunch stance against horse slaughter.
These are some petitions available for signing as well!

Mr.T so Majestic...💖🐎💖
Thank you for doing a quick take on mustangs!
Wow I never saw this before, feel like I just found a lucky gem. Very nice video
Rick, thanks again! You have a great heart and head for horse knowledge!
I have been watching your videos for some time now and they have proven to be super informative and helpful! I am new to horses and just started volunteering at a horse rescue that specializes in Mustangs! I plan on adopting one from there at some point once I learn more about riding and horse care and everything in between. By the way I love Tanner!
im glad that rick saved tanner and gave him a 2nd chance at life!! its good to see tanner enjoying a good retirement :)
That means Mr T is about 30 years old. Damn
mr. t is such a cool horse :)
He is beautiful!
He looks so much like my Mustang, but mine's got a bigger head! Great video, thanks for posting.
P.S I love Tanner/ Mr.T and Buddy!
Adorable horse
@Paige Bridgeman
Absolutely yes! I highly recommend adopting a mustang. I have one at home, and he is one of the most gentle horses that I have ever seen/heard of.
id bet tanner's father was a draft horse and his mother was a mustang
id bet tanner has a lot of relatives in nevada
Wow, Old video about Mr T! 💗🐎
My mustang mare Bayle, from the Twin Peaks herd is an easy keeper too. Puts on weight extremely easy. So easy that I have a problem keeping her from getting too fat, but she's a great horse. She's bigger than usual as well at 4yo. A genetic study on the twin peaks herd showed that they had saddlebred in their genetics. Cool video.
Here was me thinking that Americans had a problem with evolution through natural selection, and yet here's an actual Nevada cowboy explaining it as though it's the most obvious thing in the world. And without any blowback in the comments? Interesting!
www.gallup.com/poll/170822/believe-creationist-view-human-origins.aspx I was judging by this sort of thing, happy to be wrong though ;)
Creationist STILL believe in Natural selection. We all KNOW that the week will die off. It STILL doesn't prove Evolution.
He's not a nevada cowboy. He lives in texas and he was got tanner while living in texas.
@@taryn2540 I thought he got Tanner while living in California? Cuz he moved from California with both horses!!
Not all of us believe in religious mythology, regardless what you find the media.
Tanner is awesome.
Thanks. I found this video very informative, Have been commissioned to do a family of mustangs and this will definitely help. Thank you again
Looking like George Strait here and Tanner in his prime!
Thank you very much. Wonderful video. : )
I'm not a horse person, but I always think these mustang types are some of the most beautiful and healthy looking horses. Their proportions look strong. Big stong feet, thicker legs, shorter stouter muzzle, strong back, thick neck. The race horse types always look like they're going to snap a leg when the wind blows, you can tell they're breeding has been manipulated by humans and they'd do awful in the wild. Mustangs and draft horses just look, right. If that makes any sense. And they have a confidence and calmness about them that the racehorse types don't have.
@xOLauraJaneOx : Unfortunately there are too many and they are being killed and slaughtered every day. Anyone over here can own one for about 100 dollars, but not enough people to buy and save them.
RIP Mr. T
Lovely creature.
One of the best breeds out there? They are the best! (I'm bias, I can't help it) Thanks for posting this vid with the wonderful commentary. It always makes me happy to see any mustang get into a good adopted home Tanner is a very handsome boy. Love his soft eyes!
I love this video and I especially love the mustang I have one my self he's also from the Nevada area and is built almost like a draft horse
RIP Mr Tanner
damn. Mr. T is probably 28 now!
I thought he was around ten when he was caught, and had already established a herd and been a mating stallion?? Was he caught at one and released
tanner aged a lot!!!
Hi Rick, I love and understand all of your videos. I have also watched almost all of your videos and have found them very helpful. I just wanted to know your opinion on branding a horse. I personally don't like it but I would like to hear from you and how it is done.
Thanks :)
Did the Ranchers have percheron draught because the horse looks like French percheron , the percheron was a medieval knight,s war horse. He is a beautiful animal
Mustangs are my absolute favorite breed besides Arabians. Tanner is a gorgeous horse! :D
Beautiful Rick, I enjoy your content very much 😃
Thank you kindly
@@ThinkLikeAHorse Rick maybe you could sprinkle in some old classics like this of the Great Mr. T once in a while with your new videos...?
Look at how young, polite, and professional this guy is lol. Was that Mustang also your horse Rick?
Lol ... Mr T is short for Tanner 😉 Originally his name was Montana , but it is the same horse.
Here in Denmark we would say : loved child has many names ❤
@@dortesamuelsen5568 Wow thats. Mr. T?! Its great seeing him in his prime, what a gorgeous animal. I have to go back and watch Ricks older uploads now haha. Thanks for pointing that out :)
Hi I was wondering if you have messenger or something that I can video call because I have a horse but I can't tell what kind of breed he his can u please tell me
I’m his fan for sure 😫 he is a gorgeous horse!!!!
I have a 2001 Ford Mustang its amazing to see how mustangs have changed over the years. Mine looks a lot different than this one, what year model was this one?
Wow❗️❗️🐴 Mr.T is 28 now. Doin good too.
He is even well behaved during your pre-pubescent video years!🤣😂❗️🐴🐴🤠
hi Mr. T! I've come to love you.
RIP mr T:(
beautiful, elegant animal.
Yes, thanks
Wow, Rick looks so young! lol
Hey rick i have been watching alot of your videos.i have a question, what would you say is tge best horse for a 16 yr old male
I also own a Pryor Mountain Mustang named Wildfire. I have trained him for eventing and he's great! :)
Okay I am going to get my 1st horse when I can pay for a 3rd of it.
What breed do you think is the best for me?
I am 14 and have tons of experience with horses. I live in Texas an have a 100 acre ranch I would keep him at.
Any sugestions? :)
OMG hi is now 20 years and stil going strong!! nice to see =)
im sorry to ask this, but what are the difference between the different horses? like, mustang, colt, broncos, and etc.? i really dont know, some information would help thank you.
I have a mustang that I got almost 3 years old to
I have a Mustang/Morgan mix, I love her! ○○
mustangs are down to 25 dollars ppl are giving horses away for free right now down here in florida its sad but cant afford to up keep them. to all horse ppl have fun take care and dont lose ur horse.
Tanner looks like he could have Morgan in him too.
That's a beautiful horse! I love these animals and always wanted to learn to ride but I weight too much. Thankfully I am slimming down but is there an ideal weight to ride a horse? Particularly a mustang?
How many hands is Mr. T? I've tried to find what breed Buddy is. How many years have they been together?
I'd like your opinion on the Million Dollar Mustang Challenge if you'd be kind enough to share.
I'm a huge advocate of our legendary American treasures - the Mustang. However, I feel stuck between a rock and the horses. Yes, I believe there's not a finer horse "breed" out there that is as versatile as the Mustang. The Mustang Challenge has done a great job by showing John Q. Public what the trainers can do with wild caught horses in an extremely short amount of time. I see a lot of young girls commenting on those CZcams videos and I fear mommy and daddy will go to the nearest BLM Adoption event, bid on a horse because Suzie Q. loves horses with spots, coughs out $700 and takes Suzie's new birthday present home. (I'm shivering as I type). Suzie knows everything because she's seen it done on CZcams. (You get my point)
I'd love to see more and more Mustangs being used by mounted police, mounted military units such as the riderless horse now used at the National Cemetary for our fallen's funerals. We have to get them out of those damn BLM holding pens. Federal land is being used for cattle grazing and they're destroying our natural resources. The mustangs are not.
Sorry for my rant. Thanks in advance for anything you can share.
Mr T/Tanner is probably (just a guess), 15.2 hh, possibly a bit shorter/taller.
Buddy is a quarter horse as far as I know.
I like that horse, he looks like my kind of guy. Granted, I don't think I've met a horse I didn't like. :) If I can ever afford to have a horse of my own again, I would definitely consider adopting/purchasing a Mustang.
I have the 2001 mustang model, what kind is this? I'ts amazing to see how mustangs have changed over the years
Could you give me advice how to be with sensitive horse like mr. T? I have 18 years old gelding who is very sensitive and gives me my space, he follows me around but he's really cautious and respectful. And thats also good thing but is there any way i can show him that sometimes he could come closer and enjoy petting and grooming? I have never punished him for coming close to me or anything.
Anniina Ruuhi off the top of my head I'd suggest taking baby steps. Slowly get him used to your touch. If he follows you try approaching him in the least direct and aggressive manner you can so that he doesn't feel threatened. Be persistent, if he goes away try being more subtle, pretend you're walking to a spot that's near him and slowly inch closer without looking straight at him because that will make you look like a predator. He should allow you to stay close if you do it right. When you manage this slowly reach out and touch his shoulder (it's usually the most neutral spot to start). If he looks startled or alarmed stroke him gently in that spot until he relaxes (I'd wait until he starts grazing to be sure). Then slowly move along the neck, stopping every time he raises his head and repeating what you did the first time. If you reach the head and he looks calm and lets you pet him there then congrats. I'd suggest spending some time there as it can be a vulnerable place for them. Once you've reached the head work your way around the rest of the body. What is key here is patience, making yourself as unthreatening as possible, and just spending time with your horse other than riding and grooming. Him associating you and your touch with relaxing things such as grazing will make him feel at ease around you.
Annika Heydl you could have spend that time better :p The comment is 3 years old.
Shit I didn't even look at the date 😂 oh well, might be useful to someone else with the same situation
Haha Tanner is slowly moving away.
mr t will forever be the joree i wished i ever had
