  • This fly really works well for bass and large trout on rivers. The way this is tied, insures the hook point will stay upright no mater what. This helps you fish the bottom and even heavy cover without any issues. You can bump it over rocks and branches, and it will just swim right over them. Also, the tubing material looks a lot like a minnow belly, so it works out really well. A very lifelike imitation.

    That is a nice looking fly. Ray Schmidt’s Rattlesnake that he developed in 1998 is an articulated streamer with the rear hook riding up and a clipped deer hair head to imitate a sculpin. If you see a picture of it you will know why it is called a Rattlesnake.

      Ok..... lol. Glad you like this one. And I think it’s obvious why I called this a rattlesnake streamer.

      +FlyinThruColorado thank you! :)
      honestly, parts of it yes, but other people have tied a keeled fly like this with material similar. I've seen some semi like this on CZcams actually already. Really there is nothing new under the sun. Parts are my own take on a fly similar to this, hope that makes sense.

      Just practice, when I first started tying I was having difficulty also. But you will get there with practice and time I promise. So I think a few videos of mine where I film myself fishing I’ve used this fly, I’m forgetting which ones though. It was a couple years back.

    What can I expect to pay for a god uv light kit?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  Před 7 lety +2

      The "God" UV light kit is the sun.... Not sure you can buy that. HAHA Ok sorry, my humor is terrible...
      For a good UV light kit, that really depends. To be honest, some people are perfectly happy with the UV lights from China. If you don't tie a lot, (maybe once a week or less) then you might be ok with that. You can get them for $10 or so bucks just for the light. Then Solarez sells a kit of 3 different resins (you don't get a lot in each one) for $8 or something like that. However, the Chinese UV lights will break on you with extended use (I know, I've had a few and none lasted more than a few months for me). They also usually are not too bright, and will take about 2-10 times the time to cure as the lights you can get from US based UV resin manufacturers. I am partial to Solarez, and really like their stuff because their resins are very high quality, but they give you about 2-4 times as much resin in the bottles as most other companies (besides their basic starter kit which has a very little amount). I think Solarez sells a kit for $49 (its a smaller light, which is still bright, and small bottles of 3 of their resins). Then they sell the Rodie "Pro" Kit that has 1oz bottles of resin and a pretty high powered light (good quality that will last a while). That kit is $59. They also sell a super high powered light that will cure everything in seconds and that light alone is like $49 or something. Again don't quote me on exact prices as I haven't bought in a while.
      So like I said, I like Solarez. I use all their resins and like them a lot. However some other brands do make resin as well. Like I said though, most of the US based companies sell them for higher than Solarez (also based in the US). Their prices are higher, and you get less in the bottles of resin. Personally, I think the only thing that they do "better" is their packaging... But I usually don't buy products based on the packaging, but rather what the quality is on the inside. Thats my personal thoughts. But thats just me.

      @AndrewTilley04 Před 7 lety

      McFly Angler thank you so much for the input. I've been seeing people use them and wasn't sure which one to get. I'll definitely look into the Rodie one. Thanks!

    Ah, super glue. Man, is it wasn't for CA glue, half the flies in the past 30 years would never have been invented.

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  Před 7 lety

      LOL well, its just one of the adhesives that are really important for a fly tying desk. HAHA. However, be careful! You really don't want to have too much squeeze out and onto a spool, or on your vice. I had a tube of super glue just explode once, and coated everything! Now, parts of my vice are not usable (can't move the fly up and down, only grip and rotate... ) And I ruined a bobbin and a new spool of thread. I was pretty mad. HAHA

    • @BlackWarriorLures
      @BlackWarriorLures Před 7 lety

      Yeah, I really don't like using CA glue. You're sitting there sniffing glue. It gives me headaches.
