- How to lower the Sundvik - • Changing Bed Height on...
Can you assemble a SUNDVIK crib from IKEA in 20 minutes or less? Let's see! (thanks to the wonder of time lapse and fast forward, you don't have to wait to find out).
Let's assemble and review this Baby Crib (Cot) from IKEA.
FYR - the official instructions for the crib can be found here -
www.ikea.com/us/en/assembly_in...
UPDATE: We made a new video showing how to change the height of the mattress in the crib and also includes a follow up review of the crib in general after using it for several months - • Changing Bed Height on... - Jak na to + styl
update 2023: I just checked the assembly docs for this on the Ikea website, it looks like they fixed the way the bed plank connects to the sides (4:30), which is good.
But overall the assembly is still similar.
Clueless dad,it is great you can assemble the crib so fast, we were hoping you would talk and show parts and pieces. We did not have directions and were looking to you for help. We did not receive but congrats on the speediness of your assembly.
Lmaooo 23 minute assembly tho!
Totally agree
exactly im trying to asssemble mine but his video it wasnt usefull
Really useful and well set out video. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this video I just put my baby crib together by myself
Assembly should be slower so viewers can actually see how it S done, we don’t care how long it takes you as long as it S done.
actually, I just wanted to see if it has different levels...so yeah, didn't need him to show me how it's done. Plus, Ikea assembly instructions are pretty idiot-proof :p
thanks for the honest review!
thanks!!!
sounds like a mechanical engineer
we've had the crib for years, I'm putting it together again for grandson number 2
the video was very helpful
camera angles were good!
audio was good
Thanks! It's been almost 3 years since I bought this and its still in good condition even after moving and reassembling.
So helpful! We're considering getting this crib because our 8 month old has separation anxiety and she stands up now so we want her near us but also in a safe place, i.e. Not fall off the family bed.
+ thanks. It's no frills but gets the job done. You can do the lower height if she's standing but lifting her in and out will probably be hard on your back. (But no way around that now that drop side cribs are banned).
+ also check the stiffness of the mattress. My wife thinks the Vinka Vissa is a bit too soft. But probably the 100% foam ones are even softer.
+Clueless Dad last but not least - I'm going to do an assembly of the Stokke Sleepi today (won't be posted for a few weeks though). It's fancier but too overpriced I think.
Clueless Dad thanks so much! Keep the reviews coming!
Did you buy one yet? I did a follow up review on this and also demonstrated what it looks like with the bed lowered - czcams.com/video/9Q_22oVcbFk/video.html
great video! Im having trouble taking of one the side panels off so its open on one side, I got the top half loose but cant seem to get the bottom half out..any suggestions please?
Thanks for such useful video mate.. But I am trying figure out height of bed from the ground? Can I remove one side safety railing and attach this toddler bed to double bed (30cm above the ground level) as my son wants to sleep with us (usual kid behaviour & we love to have him as well). And most important does it fit for 4 year old kid as well?
Thanks in advance for your answers
We had this same crib and mattress for our 2.5 year old, we just moved him to a twin bed. I agree the design of the mattress holder was crappy and kind of a pain to put together and move to the lower level when he started to stand. But other than that we have liked the crib. I actually found your video when I started to disassemble this crib.
Heather - Thanks for your comment and thanks for sharing your experience. I actually just did filmed a follow up video about changing the height this morning, i'll be putting it out tomorrow.
Glad to hear the crib made it to 2.5 years while staying in one piece!
good
Nice
Could you please tell me how high is the the higher level of the bed? How many centimeters? Thank you!
Hi, don't get me wrong, but you need to show the parts, how do you connect them together, maybe even a glimpse of the manual would be handy.
How did the mattress arrive? Was it by any chance packed in a package smaller than the size of the Mattress?
if I recall it was just wrapped in plastic. it wasn't one of those that's shrink wrapped and rolled up (since it has springs inside, its not 100% foam like my Malvik double mattress also from Ikea)
@@CluelessDad thanks for the response. We too have ordered a spring mattress however it came all rolled up as you say in that shrink wrap. My husband got upset. Do you think it could have damaged the spring or mattress quality anyhow? Should we go for returning it? Which mattress is safe for a newborn (foam or spring or pocket spring) and how are they really different from one another?
I dont think its illegal, because there are big chain stores that sell cribs with the drop down sides. Its actually the norm ( i live in Florida, not sure about other states).
+Giada Amarini how recently? From what I’ve read they were outlawed several years back -
"Beginning June 28, 2011, all cribs manufactured and sold (including resale) must comply with new and improved federal safety standards. The new rules, which apply to full-size and non full-size cribs, prohibit the manufacture or sale of traditional drop-side rail cribs, strengthen crib slats and mattress supports, improve the quality of hardware and require more rigorous testing. The details of the rule are available on CPSC’s website at www.cpsc.gov/businfo/frnotices/fr11/cribfinal.pdf. The new rules also apply to cribs currently in use at child care centers and places of public accommodation. By December 28, 2012, these facilities must use only compliant cribs that meet the new federal safety standards."
That said, I have seen some for sale overseas that have some panels at the top that fold down a bit. But not the whole side panel.
this month actually. From big stores like Walmart which as a few that have the drop down sides. Im also pretty sure ive seen some in person at stores that sell baby furniture. with that said I prefer traditional cribs anyway lol but i can see a shorter person having trouble getting the baby in and out!
+Giada Amarini maybe it was a ‘convertible’. These are ones that can change to low side panels to work for toddlers who can already walk.
I checked Walmart’s website and that’s the only kind I saw that looked like they had a “drop” side.
what is the dimensions of the box that it comes in? Im asking because delivery is $30 and id rather save money and pick it up but im not sure it will fit in my car.
on the website it says its - 70 cm x 13 cm x 122 cm (so basically 4' long and 28" wide....)
Clueless Dad thanks!
Does anyone know a good way to remove the printed Warning label ink on the side of this crib? It’s such an eyesore!
i'm sure they make it as hard as possible for legal disclaimer reasons....
Is there an extra piece of wood needed to make it a toddler bed? I think I'm missing a piece.
Yes, there's a wooden plank that replaces the side piece when you want to make it the toddler bed.
hypothetically you could make one yourself or if you know you're definitely not going to need the crib again for a smaller kid, you could pull/cut the planks apart on the existing side piece and just use the bottom plank to hold the crib together (it'll have holes where the vertical slats go in though....
@@CluelessDad Thanks. I may just go buy a piece of wood.
We've got two cribs. I don't plan on needing more!
is ver nice
thanks!
Hey, can we have an update on this please, how well has it done so far?
Sorry for my late follow up. It's held up very well. My first kid grew out of it and graduated up to the Kritter kids bed, my 2nd one takes naps in it now w/ the side removed, so she doesn't use it every night, but it's held up very well. the pins on the bottom have held up to a decent amount of kid jumping without signs of cracking yet, and its been almost 5 years.
i just bought this crib from ikea..but very curious about how strong it is to holds toddler jumping since it doesn’t have any support in the center of it..can it really holds strong?
How deep is it from the mattress to the top at it's lowest setting?
i'll have to check in the morning, I don't want to wake the baby!
Does the piece to turn it into a toddler bed come with it?
yes, it should come with that extra plank.
Can it be attached to motherbed
Kokkirala Neeraja not without modifying it significantly. You’d need to make sure the level is suitable for your main bed and figure out how to connect them in a safe way.
It’s not designed for that installation for sure.
How do you lower the crib?
Sorry for my late follow up. There's a second set of holes for those pins that hold the mattress board in place. The second set is lower, at the height of the bottom of the lower cross beams on the side. I think you just remove the screws holding these pins into the mattress board, then reposition them into the lower set of holes and then screw them back in.
This is a good reason to make a new video on how to do that. (my son is not big enough yet, but I can still make the video now....)
Alex, see my newest video addressing this question - czcams.com/video/9Q_22oVcbFk/video.html
The 4 side pins at an angle are dangerous when taking the weight of a 20lb and over baby. Can IKEA think of something safer
yes! but I guess in their defense, we've had ours for 3 years and two kids, and multiple moves and changes of height, and its still holding up fine.... (until it doesn't...)
Lol well looks like I have to find another video to help me.

Thank you!
Not use full at all you suppose to show how to do fitting
Thanks for showing us how you put this together. Pretty bad job at actually showing us the steps. Came here for step by step instructions, no help. This is just a review video.
Thanks for your comment. If you want step by step instructions, you can see the manual here - www.ikea.com/us/en/assembly_instructions/sundvik-crib__AA-750498-4_pub.pdf
Ty. Thats what i was looking for.
@@CluelessDad people come looking for how physically to work the hardware....not time invested to build or what you like. Sheesh! that being said what a lousy crib. Restore a vintage one that will work over and over again.
This crib is garbage. The little heads that you are supposed to thread the screws for on the second step have nothing actually holding them, it makes no sense, it's almost impossible. I dont get it.
you have to hold them in place with your finger or a screw driver while you get the bold start to screw in.
It took me 4 hours from starting till the end. There is No way anyone can assemble this in 23 minutes, especially if you are doing it for the first time. Super misleading information. The instructions are useful but complicated and they are definitely not a one person's job!
Please change the title of your video. It took me 23 minutes to unpack everything and read the instructions 🙄
Sorry to hear that. it did only take me 23 minutes (unless you think I was cheating in the video.... )
I think if you do enough IKEA furniture you can interpret the instructions quicker. If you need a second person to lift the pieces that's fine, don't strain yourself, but I clearly showed that it can safely be done by one person in a reasonable amount of time.
LOL how are you upset it took him 23 mins, I can knock out an ikea product in an hr or so depending on the product. It’s all up to you and how you assemble and read the instructions, once you do enough Ikea building you get the hang of it.
@@CluelessDad yes, i think i can do it in less than 30 minutes for the next crib ( If I need one ;))
Took us 30 mins
Thos video is not helpful at all
You went to fast.
Come on people how this can be helpful it didn't help at all he's not showing the details he's just showing of that he can assemble it fast that's all
This video is wack. Show me how I have no instruction manual. I learned nothing
Read the title and description. It's very clearly not meant to be an instructional video.
I used Stodoys instructions for this and I already did it :)
