    Would love to see a young srk interview. I feel like he use to be more outspoken and unapologetic and talked his mind but because of all the controversies he tries to be careful about what he says in recent times. His Simi Garewal interview with his wife is great, was the time when he just became a father. You can see how unfiltered he use to be. Young srk had a different type of swag.

    It does weigh in on shahrukh Khan...also because there are some actors particularly in Hindi cinema who worked in the 90's to elevate the industry to take it to new heights and shahrukh was one of the front row seater in that process.

    Ik everyone talks abt his role frm Darr as an iconic villain character but I find his character frm Anjaam far more complex as a villain and SRK really flexed his talent in Anjaam more than he did in Darr and even Don

      True but he knew what to expect and was better prepared in Anjaam whereas he went in kinda blind with his character in Darr(spoiler! because even though he was an anti hero in Baazigar he was almost a hero as well) Also it is his character in Darr that shapes n leads everyone else's characters. But yes Anjaam made Srk Sir into a better villain(also the one in Ram Jaane although it is similar to his other characters that have dark shades)Don is in a totally different category altogether n we get the proper magnetic stylish villain in him.

    His level of stardom is completely different than anyone in the world. Johnny Depp is close but still not that. Its almost impossible to free urself from those shackles. Imagine thousands of people in front of ur house just to get a glimpse of u. Standing for hours. Its natural that he feels he can't dissappoint those people. He really wants to act but he can't ignore all those people he feels obligated to serve. Unlike Salman and Amir he does not come from a film family. • @5nixie
    @5nixie Před 2 lety +15

    It is not difficult to understand where SRK is coming from, regarding his choices.
    He was from theater and in that space as an actor, when you are studying, there are different schools and viewpoints regarding the art. Acting is not always about the heavy stuff, sometimes it can be seen purely as fun and entertainment. Acting is also about connecting with audience even with the barest of the background story, like they do it in the skits. Like how well you can make the audience believe in the unbelievable... and SRK has that thing going on most of the time. Having said that he did a lot of the "acting" stuff when he was a TV actor and he was happy with that. According to him he never wanted to go to "movies" initially.
    Things happened in his life that changed his mindset and he wanted the "money, securtiy and a home" for his family, a desire that maybe solidified even more after his marriage. The choice is not a bad one but a personal one. Also, even though he has reached this level, sometimes it feels that his "wealth and stardom" are actually the only things that provide security to him and his family. He is still considered an "outsider" in the industry by many and he has a very few people speaking for him publicly when it's really needed. On the other hand, no one bats an eye, lashing and jumping onto him at the slightest mistake or mishap. Trust me the man with an intelligence and wits like him, knows what he is doing or has to do. His priority has always been "the family".
    It's ironic that SRK actually "started" his career with the kind of art (on TV through "may-be-hard-to-find-now" series and mini-series/films, broadcasted on National Channel back then- before his "big" break) which people complain about him "not doing". Recently, some of his popularity TV series have been relaunched in 2020, raising the TRP of the National Channel to the unexpected levels.
    I was too little to remember but I think there was a National Award winning telefilm in which SRK and Manoj Bajpayee had appearance. I wasn't born when it was released. I may have watched a re-run or recording. It feels nostalgic in a way that there was "that" side of SRK, too. But I guess things like these are characteristic of people at his level.

    About why he is justifying playing “bad” guys: there’s a lot of discourse in India about many societal issues having roots in the glorification of problematic behaviour in Bollywood movies. Kind of like how violent video games are the go to thing to blame in the US for the epidemic of violence there, India has issues with misogyny, stalking, and general criminal stuff being glorified in movies. I think that’s his headspace - especially because some of his early iconic characters (like the deranged murderous stalker in Darr) did inspire creepy incel-types to mimic his actions (even though the movie makes it super clear he’s not to be admired or emulated).

    • @drReetHooda
      @drReetHooda Před 2 lety

      He clearly mentioned the reason that maybe you've missed... it's not about his headspace after Darr, Baazigar etc. It's about the LAYERS in the personality of a dark character. They are not insanely bad maybe 5% goodness in their heart and it's the complexity of that character that intrigues him.

    • @noumanintown
      @noumanintown Před 2 lety +2

      @@drReetHooda man really emphasizes his sense of responsibility and goes into how he feels he can’t help but make “bad” characters likeable and that gives him pause. I read between the lines and that’s what I got. He doesn’t feel comfortable knowing idiots will emulate him because many people in the country struggle to separate fiction from real life and see the actions of an actor in a movie as approval of bad behaviour.

    From an actor point of view who cares about artistry, I understand Rick's opinions on box office stuff however at the end of the day movies are made for masses. So I don't really understand the point that although the fans liked the film and it was box office hit but the actors didn't felt good about that film. At the end of the day production houses need to make money. So to be an actor for whom box office doesn't mean much is a hard pill to swallow because it might be good for the artistry however it won't make for losses that a production house might bear.
    As an actor it his/her job to bring eyeballs to Cineplex otherwise you can justify and satisfy for love for acting by doing theatre plays.

It is factual and you fact check it....as far as your point is regarding Aamir being aware about masses and risks that he takes I agree...I'm not saying that you can't do both, what am I saying is that box office does matter. As far as riskier roles are concerned that Shahrukh doesn't take up on those roles is because Shahrukh has conquered rom-com genre. There have been so many actors in the history of Bollywood that has done romantic roles or rom-com roles and hadn't achieved what Shahrukh has achieved so he is happy and content with that. People don't know why undermine romantic roles like that's easy to act meanwhile so many actors did those kind of roles like Aamir and others in fact Nawaz had flopped doing those kind of roles. The thing about the indian box office is that if the movie doesn't make good money then the people directly assume that it wasn't a very good film and its reputation and the reputation of the star takes a beating. U see India has 1.4 billion people so clearly not even 50% goes to the theater the small amount of people who go and spend the money then they become the voice of the film and say that oh its like a good film so the next time the actor comes in another film there is that thing tht ohh his last movie was good lets go see this one but again if its not good and then in the first week we get to know if its worth watching or not sooooo literally the reputation as an actor between the audience and the kind of films u do as an actor are both very important.

    Equating how people in the west and people in India view cinema and what kind of movies becomes hits is pointless. When you have third world problems, where most people struggle to put food on the table, you will never have a substantial population who cares for artistry.
    If I'm a person who understands nothing beyond me, my family and the work that I do everyday, after working tirelessly for days and weeks, I'd much rather watch Jurrasic World than something artistic and meaningful.
    Most people here go to movies to switch off. Not to have a meaningful experience and think about it later.

    The audience in America and India are very different with the expectations of what cinema has to offer to them. Indian people already have a lot going on in there life's and because of the income gap has to worry about two times meal in such times they don't want a movie that's esoteric in nature they want entertainment. I feel that the art of Indian movie have always been about entertainment in comparison to Hollywood.

    Idk where the box office thing came from, but I'm sure it definitely didn't come from the audience, it came from the industry itself, if they didn't glorify the amount of money they make and use it as marketing value it wouldn't have become a thing, when they keep using that, the audience also starts thinking the same..

    SRK's stardom can be compared with Tom Cruise. Both are very good actors but choose to make more and more commerical movies.
    Additionally SRK is an intelligent person than many other actors.

    Rocky was the don of mumbai(bombay) in chapter 1 and at the end of chapter 1 Rocky captures a bigger empire that is K.G.F. so it is quite natural that now when he had acquired the empire, he should defend because there are too many people who are wanting to acquire it so to defend his empire and his throne he should do certain adjustment in his existing character trait, by adjustment I mean increasing or decreasing the intensity of certain parameters of his existing character trait.

    He certainly is an intelligent man. Everyone tries do a balancing act and success comes when you get the balance right. SRK's acting was perfect for his audience and industry for that era. As times change and audience changes then the industry will change. If he wants to dominate the younger audience he will change his acting (within his abilities) to stay on top. And to your point about how different it is to Hollywood, it is also different within India. You have different audiences and industry attitudes. The Malayalam industry is closer to the west in terms of attitude to artistry. Elevated artistry is valued because a significant amount (not all) of the audience demands that. Even the big stars, though they do mainly commercial movies for the masses, they still regularly do movies with elevated artistry and those movies will mostly do well enough.

    If you act humble, they find something to critize you with. If you act arrogant, they'll find something to hate about you. If you act like nothing, they will still find something to hate about you. I see everyone crying and hating on these actors or celebs but if you just stopped your hating and crying maybe you can smile more. Everyone is here to work and make a living. Why hate what someone does or how they do it? You all get so caught up being misrable about another ones career that you forget to just to focus on yourself.

    The box office in Bollywood’s case matters so much in India, is the exact same reason why your degree matters, is what kind of house or car you have. Because in Indian culture historically, popularity is equated with morality. Or a quality. And that is inherent with the land, because we are such a populated country that, that factor will never go away. It works in Hollywood’s case is because of its reach, it almost always ends up making it back. Bollywood had to be reliant on local crowds for the longest and only in recent years has the world opened up to it. Which could potentially add the popularity equation even more coz now it’s getting even more eyeballs or it can go the Hollywood route..whatever it is, only time will tell..

    I understand where you're coming from with the box office thing. But understand this, a will smith or a jonny depp is a an actor to you. But for people like SRK, or even Salman, they are literally a GOD for their fans. So fan of an actor can let go the box office, a devotee can't miss an inch. And that pressure is vise versa on the actors as well.

    "For 15000 years there have been bloodshed battles between people" but the world will only remember two types of people, one that destroys fear and other that creates fear. He does both" this was the dialogue of K.G.F. Chapter 1 teaser. This is the actual description of Rocky's character.
    Point No.1 that is "He destroys fear" which is valid in chapter 1.
    Point No.2 that is "He creates fear"
    which is valid in chapter 2.
    So from this description, we can clearly derive that he is a villain and not a hero.

  • @harikrishnannair2553
    @harikrishnannair2553 Před 2 lety +2

    In the beginning of chapter 2, it clearly mentions that he wanted to rule over K.G.F. that's why he helped the people inside the mine and beheaded garuda in front of everyone in chapter 1 to win the heart of the people inside the mine because by doing that people will have faith in him and will always stand by his side. Whatever he did in chapter 1 was for his selfish needs which was made clear in chapter 1 itself.

    Of course you are correct about Indian focus on money and then deeming a movie good. Many of us know the difference with Hollywood. Even the awards shows - which are usually rigged nowadays- in the 90s and before too, the awards were given to actors in "blockbusters", not necessarily based on their artistic performance. That's kind of my beef with our cinema.
    Honestly, I don't mind the over top movies we make because our cinema is completely different and we need it that way. But the point about recognition is what I don't like. Agree
