You need top-rock in a club so you can clear a space. That's what it's mainly for and why you spread yourself out when you do it. I don't think it gives you any more speed. Mills and 90s etc are usually done after stepping back...

not really. you can still kill a beat even if it's not a hip hop song. In fact, the wider range of songs you're able to dance to, the better you are.
