One day Jaguar, one day, you will be mine...
You will love it
I feel that way about the jazzmaster
I feel like that bout the player series one
just bought my first one i cant wait for it to get here!!!1
@@lawabidingcitizen5153 Squier JM! 400 dollars.
The joke at 11:50 is totally ignored, and that's the most hilarious part of it
It was, bummed me out that he didn't humor him with a pity chuckle lol

If you're a hedgehog, this probably isn't the guitar for you.
@@impamp3 lmao why
The mug explosion at 2:45 made this video worth watching
I still don't understand why that happened..
In baseball, much of the game revolves around getting to first base (fnarr fnarr). If you hit to "left field" the fielder has much further to throw to the first baseman to throw you out at first. The ball also arrives from "behind" you as you run towards the base, so you can't judge when it's going to arrive in the baseman's glove.
This is what "out of left field" means. An idea that arrives, suddenly, unexpectedly, that's taken the originator more effort to produce, that's stranger, more unorthodox, etc.
You're welcome!
Shannon Roy Never mind your factual prowess, I am now using "fnarr fnarr" as my laugh from now on
I nicked it from Finbarr Saunders!
Shannon Roy well you hit that one for 6 :)
I think you have your bases mixed up. A runner getting thrown out at first by an outfielder basically never happen. It's probably about a runner going from third to home, because then left field would be behind you and the ball really would "come out of left field" both literally and figuratively.
Out of left field, most of us are right handed not left , right is considered normal left not normal , nothing to do with baseball
The 4th position on the switch is just both pickups in Series, while 2nd is Parallel. And the small switch on top does in or out of phase.
Wrong!
lose3111 true, I've seen the circuitry. That is to say that the switch on top is a phase shifter.
Eoghan West I don't know about these specific ones, but the standard spec on jazzmasters and jaguars is for the top switch to turn off the bridge pick up, and force on the neck pick up, regardless of if the other controls would have it turned off.
lose3111 is 100% correct.
The switch seems to be a simple "high pass filter". To use an "out of phase", you need at least two pickups.
Loved the video guys. Have wanted a Jaguar for many years, want one even more now. The sound with the shorter scale length intrigues me, plus the antique olive color is awesome to me.
I wish you guys got someone on who really loves and understands Jags/Jazz. I feel that you guys get confused by these beautiful machines.
Lloyd Martin totally agree. See also chappers shredding on a a 330 in the rickenbacker video.
Love Rob’s playing as always, but Lee should’ve done at least a little more research before this one. Annoying.
I love the entire Andertons Crew. Everyone has their place and everyone contributes to quality that Andertons videos provide but Chappers and The Captain videos are the best. They truly compliment and balance eachother out.
Great demo! Both you guys compliment each other brilliantly! I enjoy your demo's a whole lot! I wish I lived in England so I could buy these products I've seen thanx to you both! Just love you guys to death! You are both VERY cool that's important to me!
Jimmie Marchisotto thanks dude, always nice to read lovely feedback like this :-)
Went by Andertons last week on the way to Gatwick. Impossible to find parking. Bloody cricketers were playing and took every spot!
Literally the last two people who should be demoing offset guitars
Or fuzz if you've seen their blind fuzz review.
So true
Why do you say that ?
On youtube.
@@maywasp I love these dudes but it wasn't the most useful demo for people who play alt rock or punk or what have you, which is what a whole lot of people like to play on Jaguars and Jazzmasters
"If you're a hedgehog" - Rory you're a legend.
Guys, its a shame you didn't check the specs properly on the Jaguar, cause I was waiting for your demo of it. Second position is both pickups in series, and 4th position is both in parallel, sort of a humbucker sound, with noise cancelling. The upper switch is a Phase switch that works only on 2 and 4. The volume pots have a new "treble bleed" technology so when you turn them down you dont loose definition and treble. The neck has a new profile that gets thicker or thinner depending on where you play.
Please don't get sloppy on your demos and explanations, cause you're a reference for us all.
Thanks again.
Sean Marholm -they also messed up on the stop switch,,,the tremolo is a floating tremolo,,but with switch engaged the tremolo will only go down like my musicman stingray,,,that said I love my 2018 Jaguar pro and the pickups are perfect for me ,,,””
I love the editing of these videos, freakin hilarious
18:48 Fun fact: Jimi actually did play both a Jazzmaster and a Jaguar. Though, they were not his primary guitars while he was well known.
Was hoping to hear some chords being played out as well...
Last time i was this early, chappers still had his dreadlocks!
Selectionater Lol he looks so much better without the dreads
Great Googly Moogly Every white person looks better without dreads.
Generic Name I think Dave (Dorje's bassist) looks pretty all right with 'em.
Matthew Graham He shaved them and he looks better. My point stands.
That's, like, your opinion, man.
I love your demos because you all tend to do exactly everything I like to do with them as far as tone is concerned
I have owned a Mexican Classic Player Jaguar for 5 years and I love it!! Such a versatile guitar with the lower impedance upper volume control for darker tones. (Even used it in a Uni Jazz gig the other day!!) Note controversially I like the tremolos on these guitars I have always found them easy to use and closer to a bigsby than a strat trem.
These new versions of the Jaguar & Jazzmaster are stunning.
Love these guys but they know little of Fender offsets :-)
that is painfully obvious by the 3 minute mark. good grief. so much wrong/biased/inaccurate information in this one. These guys usually are much better than this.
Yes. Unfortunate.
@@Chango_Malo He gets it right eventually but very tediously, and then sort of loses it again.
So much misinformation. So much shredding. “Left field” = old Hendrix riffs? Make it stop!
I bought the American Pro Jazzmaster a couple of weeks ago and its insanely good. The neck profile in particular makes transitions so smooth and the pickups sound awesome. I was hesitant at first not to have the additional rhythm circuit, but the tone suits my playing and keeps things simple. Great work Fender.
I've actually been curious about this comparison for a long time!
LOL I've ALWAYS been "Left Field"! 17:25 So... I HAD to get myself one of these new(ish) Jaguars, and now that it's >> MINE
18:47 "I know Jimi never played a guitar like that" Jimi actually played a Jazzmaster in his early days as a backup guitar player! You can look up videos on youtube when he was a backup playing both an olympic white, and sunburst Jazz. He also played the sunburst one a bit into his career with the experience, and played a jag many times in the early days of the experience, you can find tons of pictures of him with both guitars on google images.
Love the guitars, but you guys keep me coming back for more vids. If my guitar instructor had 1/2 the personality of either one of you I would still be taking lessons 15 years later.
Please more Jimi from The Capt'n
Whoa whoa whoa, that tip at the end! A hardtail MIM with duel humbuckers?!!!
Where is that guitar?
Love these guys reviews, great stuff.
Excellent, reading about the functions of the guitar while shooting the video! What a pro!!
Lee: "If I lock it, I can only go down"
Rob : "your wife will be very happy"
Cap'n said Jimi never played this type of guitar. There are plenty of pics of Jimi with a Jazzmaster when he was a session player.
there is a video of one of the isley brothers where he said Jimi had like 5 different jazz masters during his time with them. he definitely played the jazzmaster. there is even a video of him playing one.
This is the video I have been waiting for!
I love these guys and whoever edits these videos hahaha, editing is great
Incorrect. Jimi Played a Jazzmaster in his early days. And duo sonics. Offsets are useful for us lefties. Especially if you hate Str*ts
He also played Jaguars. There are pics of him doing so.
The only pics I've seen with a Jaguar is unplugged. Jimi played the Jazzmaster during 2 years with the Isley Brother's, Little richard and at the beginning of the Experience.
@@souvlakiss_ ya Brian Jones gave it to him
I've never seen or heard anything about Jimmy playing a Jag. He is known to have played a JM, both before and after The Experience.
Who tf hates strats
Perfect video for me, I'm currently torn between the two!
man i love those little video edits, hilarious
Man, the Jaguar really made my ears tingle with a couple of sounds! Great sounding guitar!
Jaguars are just edgy Jazzmasters.
Shh
They are Jazzmaster for woman
+The10000lbGorilla that's actually the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
s e Good, it was a joke. Jokes are supposed to sound dumb. did you read it in a bad Russian accent too? because that was also intended.
Propanes are more edgier than kerosenes.
Jimi Hendrix played a jazzmaster with Little Richards. I love the Andertons channel, but I wish there was a little more fact checking. They couldn't do a simple google search to find out about the switch on the Jaguar?laziness.
Epic melody playing Capt.
Thank you for reviewing these two guitars!!!
Hendrix played both Jaguar and Jazzmaster occasionally back in 67 and 68. In fact because he was always bad with money he played the guitar he could get his hands on.
I’m a strat guy and have always been but I really love my jag. It’s just really cool and honestly, something different. It has chime and character but doesn’t quite do what a tele or strat does. I like the old school, switches everywhere, rhythm and lead layout too. I’m not sure why they dumbed it down. I feel like if you’re gonna get a jag, you might as well go for the gusto.
Robs playing here is mesmerizing
I love it when these guys jam. It always sounds amazing. This is what inspires me to play the guitar
Johnny Marr should get a royalty on every 4 way switch jag sold he came up with that idea . Usually like these videos . Do some extra credit homework on Jazzmaster or Jags.
That Jag sounded wonderful!
I love the editing in this video
Great video guys I was disappointed that you two did not play Pipeline Mabie next time! Keep up the good work and thanks
When Lee says Hendrix didn't play anything like hose but he actually played an upside down jazzmaster...
Definitely SG vs Les Paul. That would be great!
Les Paul hands down
No Face Killah no way, SG is far better
They both kind of suck.
Nah the weight of the Les Pauls gives them a fuller tone
Slurpeydurpey
Guess again...
I don't care which guitars you choose. I just want more and more of these videos. Can't get enough of Andertons videos. Enjoyed it guys! Thanks.
Rob that jaguar sound great good playing as always
I'd really love to suggest a baritone six string shoot out/vs. video. Baritones don't get the love they deserve, and it'd be a cool opportunity to see the new Chapman ML-1 Baritone Standard in action, as I'm after one... Selfishly suggesting that haha.
The lock on the Jazzmaster and Jaguar tremolo system is for an emergency use. If you break a string, that causes the other strings to break and go out of tune, due to the higher tension caused by the one string breaking. The lock is there so that if you break a string you lock the trem system down, lowering the tension on the strings, your guitar stays in tune, you replace the string and then proceed to keep rocking. It’s actually a cool idea, but I’ve never gotten to see it in a real life situation, however.
Wow, I was on the fence about the Jaguar, but after playing one (the 60s Mexican Rerelease) and watching this video, I can't wait to get that Antique Olive one! Great video :-)
Sounding great Cap, nice playing.
Actually one of the things I'd like to see you guys do is a review and play of the Vox AmPlug 2 line, I have a couple and have found them interesting and damn good value for money. Especially with multiple gain stages, effects and on the Bass 9 rhythms.
I have the bass AmPlug 2 and love it. It works well with my bass and my guitars. I plan on getting the AC30 , Blues, and Classic Rock. You are right about them being a great value.
You wanted a review of something you already had two of?
That's fucking weird, dude.
You should have done some of the vintage jaguars with all the complicated switching for selecting the different pickups (each pick up had its own on off switch) and the high pass filter. The original ones also had different circuits for rhythm and lead and each with their own volume and tone pots.
The tremolo lock is mainly for if you don't have the arm in and just want to keep it stable. Ive got an early 80's made in Japan jag and love it to bits.
its really not that complicated. on. off. high pass filter.
Compared to a lot of other guitars with just a 3/5 way switch and volume/tone pots it is fairly complex
Pos 1: Bridge, Pos 2: Both pickups in parallel, Pos 3: Neck, Pos 4: Both pickups in series. (they stole it out of the Johnny Marr sig). The top switch just switches phase in Positions 2 & 4. Hope that helps demystify the guitar for some.
Probably not the last or the first time you hear this but the videos are so well edited... keep up the good work
Les Paul vs. Eclipse (high-end LTD or ESP). That would be interesting.
why don't you guys do some blindfolded P90 shooutout? for example epihone casin vs some telecaster?
Well, now we gotta see the Jaguar Classic with buckers. Oh, so many guitars on my wishlist because of this channel! I really liked the Les Paul hollow body from a video last year.
Thanks for that great review. I would love to see another vs. video. Been t not guitar model vs. guitar model, i would love to see a chappers vs. the captain again. Like a cheapo guitar + amp vs. That would be really nice!
7:26 I'm really craving the jaguar now :o
Mustang vs Duo Sonic!
Mustang vs Duo Sonic vs Music Master
Peter why a music master is just a duo sonic without a bridge pickup!
Yo Boi Enzo Idk I just wanted it for the hell of it
Peter i suppose it would sound a little different than a duo sonic neck pickup because it doesn't have a bridge pickup sucking away some tone
I always wanted a Kurt cobain mustang (and jag) but never liked the mustang bridges.
I bought a new duo sonic hs and it's amazing.
I have a jb in the bridge and it's great.
Plays amazing. Super light. Thin neck plays fast and it's an HS and a hardtail and an offset?
It screams cobain mustang (wannabe) lol
I've been waiting for the Jazzmaster love. No scrubbing to the talking bits.
Some fantastic editing in this video. pop
When you use the pedals, you mask the tone of the guitar. Go through the different settings clean before you distort the sound.
Finally a review that doesn't say jag-wire
Those are some gnarly sounding guitars!
Jimi Hendrix did have a Jaguar he often pictured with. He played it live once in a while too.
Do a comparison between a Jazzpaster vs a P90 equipped Les Paul, and a Telecaster equipped with broad field Humbuckers. Throw in a Mini Hmbuckers equipped Firebird too, if you like. I'd like to see how similar and how different, those guitars are, to each other, and why.
I d like to watch that in a video, but made by Pete and Rabea.
gretch dot vs a 335
you mean an epiphone dot?
RCT3plays MC there was meant to be a comma in there aha
you two are the best!!!
great editing... kudos
I really like your vids, even ordered some pedals from you to germany. But in the long run there is much too much "fiddeling" going on. Too many scales, too fast. Is it really helpful to hear someone shred on a Jazzmaster? No offense, vids are awesome, sometimes just too much technique for my taste.
What happened to the chapman pedals rob?
I have a Fender Jaguar I bought in 2011, it's a 'Blacktop' Model. It doesn't have all the fancy switching, just a Vol, Tone, a 3-way switch for the two Humbucker pickups, and a Tone-o-matic bridge. I LOVE it. The 24" Scale makes it a breeze to play. I got it 'cause it reminded me of the 'Student Models' of the good old days back in the 1960's and Surf Music. I play it almost every day. But today I have my '86 Strat out.
The lock on the trem is to keep the same tension even if you break a string. This was originally designed for music with lots of bends and vibrato. Breaking a string was fairly common. It started popular because alt and punk artists adopted the guitar and their heavy hitting and wild sttumming also took a toll on strings.
the jazzmaster pickups are flatter than the jaguar or normal strat single coils, they are so wide as there is less room on the bobbin than on the taller regular single coils
That olive green jag looks amazing. I'd whack some flatwound 13s on it and give it the kicking it clearly has coming to it.
just a heads up, i have the olive green P bass and it looks way more "gray" irl compared to the green you'll see in photos and vids. i bought one used from reverb on a whim and was convinced the dude sold me the wrong bass lmao. still beautiful but way more faded.
Thanks for that buddy
Amazing Introsounds!
Blurring out the middle finger here at 6:37 had me in stitches haha
The trem-lock on these guitars prevents the unchanged strings from going sharp with moderate drop-tunings. E.g. drop D. It may of course also help if you break a string as mentioned in the video, but that is not its intended purpose. Was kinda surprised that someone like Lee or Rob doesn't either already know or work this out.
Jazzmasters are my personal favorite! I was a little sad to see that they ditched the second time circuit. Always though that was the secret weapon of these guitars.
Matt Wisdom I use the circuit switch all the time on my jag
The switching on the Jaguar Rob is playing is:
4-way switch:
1. Brige
2. Bridge+Neck (parallel)
3. Neck
4. Bridge+Neck (in series)
The switch at the top reverses the phase on one of the pickups, resulting in additional tones for 4-way positions 2 and 4.
Discovered you guys around 8 weeks ago and I now have a Chapman ML3 Signature, a few Tone City pedals & the T-Shirt worn by Rob in this video... from Zero to a big fan in a short period of time. Next I think is a Vox Adio... Ohhh yeah from Australia.
Dudes, know your gear before you record. Lee says the JM PU come in "bigger casings" as if this accurately defines the PU...not only are the casing wider, the whole bobbin, and thus the windings have a wider and flatter dimension than the Jaguar. The Jag is deeper and narrower plus has the come baseplate to effect the magnetic field shape. This is stuff is not hard to know and articulate.
Dude video is over 2 years old
Moe Syzlak so what?
Rob, I thought all the videos with Captain Lee were going on be posted on the Andertons channel. Did that gameplan change due to feedback?
I think that is starting in the next lot of videos he shoots.. not sure.
notbadfilms this starts next month
notbadfilms starting in July.
Can you suggest to Lee that the thumbnails on the Andertons channel get colour coded? Currently they all look pretty similar at a glance, it'd be great to easily spot Chappers+Captain/Keyboard Corner/etc eps in the video list. Even a coloured border of a few pixels would do the trick..
Yep, but the sustain was incredible, man!
Who ever edits this video, is a legend! PMSL
Finally a jazzmaster, I been a praying for this
Jaguar Showdown: Squier Vintage Modified v Fender Classic Player v Johnny Marr Signature; a low v medium v high priced comparison of Jaguars with similar switch and pickup configurations.
Vince Smith amen
I have the fiesta red jaguar and its fantastic. Put a bit of lock tight in the floating bridge and youre
good to go.
totally agree. the surf green JM is fucking *good*. better than this AM Pro by quite a bit..
0:09 i really thought that riff was gonna be rebel rebel by david bowie
Thanx for this shootout.. What got me is when you were jamming, the Jag really cuts through doing solos.. and doing rhythm it had more texture.. Whereas the Jazzmaster had some nice warm tones when isolated.. Thank you.. from a left-fielder :)
Loved that purple haze lick at 18:35
do a shootout between a regular telecaster and a telecaster thinline!
I really like Lee, but sometimes I feel like he does not let Rob criticize the guitars. (like the saddles in this video)
Deniz M actually Lee is right, the design is way better. I played one at a shop for about an hour and it was great never fell out of the saddle.
Yes you might me right for this specific example. I meant in general. Cheers.
Nah, Lee is right. The mustang style bridge is a lot better than the vintage style Rob is referencing.
Once again I repeat: I did not mean the saddles examples but in general. Gosh! :)
I think it's important to remember these videos aren't really reviews (and they aren't really presented as such) they are demonstrations.
Yes, the lock button on the floating trem was mainly designed so that a player who breaks a string doesn't have the entire guitar go out of tune. If a string breaks, you can engage the lock and stay in tune with the remaining strings.
Lee anderton... watched you get really fuckin good. Your an inspiration to me who is getting a new understanding of music and lookin to understand scales and starting to move about the neck. .
