  • coconut black headed Caterpillar is an important pest in coconut. it is damaging most of the coconut gardens in Central part of the Karnataka. the incidence of this pest is very serious in summer months. the adult larvae feed on the lawyer surface of the coconut leaf and it make an nest down the lower surface of the leaf. it feeds on the photosynthetic chlorophyll of the leaf so that plants will suffer from food shortage. the affected plants looks like a burnt appearance. the productivity of the palms will be reduced drastically by damage of this pest. to manage this best incidence cut and burning of the fronds is the initial measure. release of parasite like Goniozus nephantidis @ 15 per palm in 15 days interval for four times. It will help in managing the larvae of caterpillar. spray of Neem Oil 5% to the lower surface of the leaf also helps in controlling the pest. even though root feeding he is recommended but it is very difficult to do practically. Adoption of cooperative control measure is the best method to manage this pest.
