    Arguably, DOHC inline fours were ALWAYS overkill for the streets, in every displacement, and including a lot of iconic bikes from the Big Four. Twins and singles for the streets, as Harley-Davidson, Triumph and others had long tried to do. The bikes coming out these days, including the Aprilia shown here, are spiritual successors to those twins of old.

  • @TheBaconVanMan
    @TheBaconVanMan Před rokem +7

    Coming from the guy with 6 bikes to choose from and the money for track days, I can’t say I agree with your opinion. Most people have 1 bike and want to experience the power of a 600 and are willing to deal with the uncomfortable aspects. That’s the whole reason the WRX is so popular. Are there far more comfortable cars out there? Yes. Are the average WRX buyers taking them to a track regularly? No. But people *want* that sports car feel it can provide at a great price, and it’s the obvious choice for someone who’s only going to own one car.
    NGL, Yammy seems pretty out of touch these days. Preaches “get a slow bike” but then rides 600’s and liter bikes on the track regularly, and fires his turbo hyabusa down the highway. Yeah, I’m sure for him it’s a no brainer to have a comfy bike when he has access an arsenal of two wheeled missiles in the same garage he can use any time, and regularly does.

It seems we only see them as quasi racers where we ride like headless chickens as the bike screams its tits off underneath us, progressively destroying each system as we push everything to the extreme. What about the idea of just riding at pace - constant - using nothing more than subtle pressure on the bars? No dramatic braking or accelerating. It’s great for covering a lot of ground in comfort not bathed in adrenaline, cortisol or dopamine - just a job well done.

I know i'm not gonna fully use the RPM range or the riding postion maybe akward or not optimal. But thats the charm of owning something fast. They are never practical, theyre not supposed to be and thats klinda the point. Its the potential of the machine and if everyone starts buying these easier to ride, subdued machines, theyre just gonna mod them back to what the R6 is anyways because thats what excites people some people. 600 cc is way more relevant than liter bikes. If you're talking about usable power on the streets.
    I currently have a little Z400, but I had the FZ07 in 2014 and put 21,000 kms in a year and a half. I've also had the KLX250SM after that, a 1977 TS185 2 stroke before that, a little 49cc Honda Dio scooter, and am actually adding a Royal Enfield 350 Meteor as a second bike in like a week.
    600cc inline 4 might not be your cup of tea, but they are super relevant due to insurance prices and power ratio.
    I agree full fairing bikes are uglier, but they also deflect wind more and blow the doors off 700cc twins.
    They will walk away with such ease as soon as you're at 80kmph compared to a twin with 100ccs more.

    I think yes! I have a Tuono 660, I added the quick shifter and the IMU for like $500. The only thing is the elephant in the room. It is a dog in second gear and between 5,000 and 6,000 RPM. I am hopping after the warranty is up I can update the mapping and lose the flat spot. Anyhoo I just keep it between 6,000 and 10,000 and it is fine.

    So, I just started riding a Ninja 650 after only riding dirt bikes. Ride it through town to work on any day I can and along twisty backroads. I appreciate how easy the bike is, but it does feel sluggish. Would it be smart to trade the light handling for the slightly extra power of the Ninja 1000 SX that also has the sport touring in mind? Or might that be more boring due to the extra 100lbs?

    Furthering the evidence that my humble Benelli TNT600 is the perfect formula hehe... it's a 600cc i4 streetfighter that's making a little less power and geared such that 1st takes you to the 13000RPM redline at just 60mph. I can ride it on pretty much any back road and bang through a few gears easily- and have all the excitment doing it! The answer to make a 600 more streetable is really just lower gearing IMO.

    This is further proof that Kawasaki is completely gigabraining their new ZX4-RR. In a few years there's gonna be a lot of people bored of the linear delivery of a twin and no options for a proper screamer... except the ZX4 and ZX6R(if it sticks around) ;)
    Everyone's placing their bets that the 600 class is dying and unfun, while Kawasaki knows people are gonna miss that excitement and are putting themselves in a super strategic position for the next five or so years here... I'm excited to see how this all unfolds.

    I rode a zx6r at a demo event and it was a great bike. I loved the sound and power but for daily riding it just doesn't suit me. I got a ninja 650 and while I'd like more power, it more than performs on the street and I'm not leaving tons of rpms, horsepower, and money on the table like a 600 or 1L. Plus the 650 is more comfortable for commuting. The seat on the 6R feels much wider, but its comfortable in motion. In stop and go traffic however the 6R seat just isn't as comfortable as the 650, and you are REALLY missing out on power because it never gets a chance to get moving. All that being said if money wasn't a concern I'd have a 600 or 1000 as part of my garage, it just doesn't make sense to me as an only bike
