  • World Food Safety Day (WFSD) will be celebrated internationally on June 7, 2021. The aim is to draw attention and inspire action of Governments, producers/farmers and consumers to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks.
In PNG, the event is hosted by the Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL) Agro Food Safety & Codex (PNG) Secretariat under the Science & Technology Branch. It is being hosted in collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO) including, the Department of Health (NDOH) and other relevant stakeholders.
The theme for this year ‘Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow’, stresses that production and consumption of safe food has immediate and long-term benefits for people, the planet and the economy. Recognizing the systemic connections between the health of people, animals, plants, the environment and the economy will help us meet the needs of the future.
The Department’s (DAL) current drive in collaboration with the partners is to “go rural” to the communities including schools to make awareness about the importance of food safety and its benefits in line with the WFSD theme.
You are invited to send a reporter/photographer to cover the event.
