You are so right on this. The songs of the 60's, 70's and 80's were for the most part romantic and filled with emotions. This song along with the song stand tall by Burt Cummings saved my marriage one night back in 1979. I had discovered that the love of my life and the only Woman that I had ever loved had been cheating on me with what I thought was my best Friend. It simply does not get any more painful when the two people that you trust the most have deceived you. We had two young Daughters at the time and my heart was breaking. I just could not continue to live life with so much emotional pain and still loved my Wife as the center of my universe. I was torn between leaving to live a life of misery or confront my Wife and demand the truth and ask Her to make a decision between My so called best Friend or a life with me. On that fateful night in late1979 I sat in the darkness and listened to some soothing music and contemplated my life path from that point when divine intervention from the Heavens took hold and saved me and my marriage when I listened to the song "your only lonely" and "stand tall". I had too make my Wife understand what I was going through and then purchased both those songs the following morning. I then retrieved a copy of our wedding album and the audio recording of both of us reciting our wedding vows. On the following evening I made arrangements to have a baby sitter for our two Daughters and came back to our apartment. we both went through our wedding album pictures and then listened to our weeding vows on a cassette tape. I then informed my Wife that I had discovered her ongoing affair with my former Friend each time I had gone to sea on submarines. I then begged her not to deny the affair by telling her that lying about it would only hurt me more. I must admit that I openly wept that night and told her why. At that point I told her that I wanted to play both songs that revealed my emotions and feelings. I told her to listen to the lyrics to truly understand. I played both songs along with our joint favorite song of our courtship. My Wife broke down and cried like a baby and so did I. The affair ended that night and my woeful heart started to heal. We have now been married for 45 years and my love is still true as is hers. That is what I will always remember about the song your only lonely, from the bottom of my heart, thank you JD Souther. The tears have begun to flow as I poured out my emotions. Love is the answer and never give up on love.

This song has been my favorite for over 30 years and have looked for it all this time. The person who originally told me about the name of the songwriter misspelled his name. It is beautiful and so sensitively written for a woman I am so glad I stumbled upon it. I am trying do find a reasonable price and place do order a copy. I will not give up until I get my own copy.
